Columbia University is the 3rd largest US university in terms of giving admission to international students. In 2018, around 2,260 students were admitted to Columbia College and Engineering, fall batch, out of which 1,423 students enrolled in the course with yield rate of 63%. The university grants degrees in humanities and social sciences department with more than 60 majors. Around 84% of students get admitted to MD/ PhD program every year.

About 36% of international students started studying in the 2018 with most students being from China, India, South Korea and France.

Re-Application

The candidate, if wants, can reapply to the same program in the next intake cycle. The reapplication to a program differs from department to department. But, a common protocol says that after the application gets rejected, the candidate needs to fill a fresh application form and submit it along with the supporting documents such as a CV, statement of purpose, writing sample, or any other related document. Though, the applicant is not required to resend a copy of the transcripts and test scores (like TOEFL, GRE, etc.), if they are already submitted.

In addition to undergraduate and graduate programs, the university also offers professional degrees, dual degrees, collaborated programs, online programs, etc. about which you can choose from the university website, individually.

Transfer Students

For being eligible to study at Columbia as a transfer student, you must have either completed or registered for 24 points of credit, i.e. one hour of full-time study, from another institution and should have done a high school diploma. Students with more than 4 semesters of study at other institution are not encouraged to apply for a transfer program.

Undergraduate

Prerequisite: To be eligible for a transfer, the international students must be studying in a North American college or in a foreign college equivalent to the US – style.

Supporting Documents

In addition to the compulsory documents, the students are encouraged to send the supporting documents along. These supporting documents should highlight the candidate’s extra-curricular interests. Mention the names of the organizations with whom you have worked along with a small brief, if possible.

Note that these supporting documents won’t be a part of the admission process.

Transfer Credit

For taking admission as a transfer student, you must have either completed or registered for 24 points of credit at the other institution. If the applicant has obtained more than 64 points in Columbia College Engineering, then they won’t be eligible for transfer credit.
