Portland State University International Student Admissions

Admission Requirements for International Students

  • All the academic records/transcripts from the previously attended institution(s).
    • Official transcripts that are not in English, must be accompanied along with the certified English translation.
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the last two years of their previous program.
  • ACT/SAT exam scores as per program requirement.
  • Proof of English proficiency for non-native English speakers.
  • Complete 15 units of preparatory coursework with C grade or higher.

Visa Process for International Students

  • Form I-20 or DS-2019 is issued to international students from the university
  • Following documents should be provided to receive the Form I-20 or DS-2019:
    • Passport Copy
    • Proof of financial support
    • Bank statement
    • Sponsor letter
  • Complete the form and pay the SEVIS I-901 fee.
  • Applicants then need to apply for the F-1 or J-1 visa for Form I-20 or DS-2019, respectively. Submit the form and pay the application fee.
  • Schedule and attend the visa interview
