Santa Clara University runs two intakes a year, and Fall (August) is the primary intake where nearly every UG and PG program opens. Spring (January) is a much smaller cycle limited to select graduate programs. All Indian undergraduate applicants apply through the Common Application; graduate applicants use each school’s own portal per the official SCU apply page.
Santa Clara University’s primary intake for Indian students is Fall (August) — most programs open here.

SCU Eligibility Requirements for Indian Students
Santa Clara University sets separate academic and English bars for undergraduate and graduate entry, and Indian scores translate directly onto its holistic review model. - UG subject requirement: Mathematics and English studied through Class XII, plus lab science and a language.
- PG general entry: Four-year Bachelor’s with a 3.0 GPA (around 65 percent in Indian terms).
- PG Leavey MS entry: Bachelor’s at around 70 percent, GMAT 650 or GRE 315 for scholarship review.
- PG Engineering entry: Bachelor’s in engineering or computer science at 65 percent minimum.

Santa Clara University IELTS Waiver for Indian Students
SCU waives the English-proficiency test in three cases relevant to Indian applicants. First, if the applicant’s medium of instruction was English through all of secondary school, verified through an MOI letter from the school principal. Second, if the applicant has completed at least one year of full-time study at a US, UK, Canadian, Australian, or New Zealand institution. Third, if the applicant scores 650 or higher on the SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section. Bring the MOI letter on school letterhead with signature and school seal.
Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official SCU page for your chosen program before applying.
Santa Clara University PG Programs and English Scores
Santa Clara’s graduate lineup runs through the Leavey School of Business and the School of Engineering, with a base tuition of around USD 37,020 (INR 34.98 Lakhs) per year for the MS in Information Systems and USD 51,604 (INR 48.77 Lakhs) per year for the MS in Business Analytics. Per-course tuition varies by unit load; see the course-wise fees breakdown for a full split.
| Programme | Duration | Minimum Eligibility | English Req. Min. |

| MS Applied Mathematics | 2 years | Bachelor’s in math or related | TOEFL 90 / IELTS 7.0 |
Insider note: The Leavey MS scholarship priority deadline of 1 April 2027 is the real gate for Indian applicants; a submission after this date can still get admission but rarely wins the USD 2,000 to 8,000 merit award.
Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official SCU page for your chosen program before applying.
SCU Undergraduate Programs and Entry Bar
Santa Clara’s undergraduate colleges — Arts and Sciences, Business, and Engineering — share a common Class XII bar of around 85 percent but split on subject prerequisites. Base UG tuition sits at USD 65,736 (around INR 62.12 Lakhs) per year, and the Provost Scholarship halves this for qualifying admits. Living costs and books push the full cost of attendance higher; see the Fees page for the total split.
| Programme | Duration | Minimum Eligibility | English Req. Min. |
|---|---|---|---|
| BS Computer Science and Engineering | 4 years | Class XII 85% with Math and Physics | TOEFL 80 / IELTS 6.5 |
| BS Bioengineering | 4 years | Class XII 85% with Bio, Chem, Math | TOEFL 80 / IELTS 6.5 |
| BS Business Administration (Finance / Marketing / MIS) | 4 years | Class XII 85% with Math | TOEFL 80 / IELTS 6.5 |
| BS Mechanical Engineering | 4 years | Class XII 85% with Math and Physics | TOEFL 80 / IELTS 6.5 |
| BA Economics / Political Science / Psychology | 4 years | Class XII 85% with English | TOEFL 80 / IELTS 6.5 |
Standardised tests are test-optional for Fall 2027 first-year applicants, so Indian students without SAT or ACT can still be reviewed on Class XII marks, essays, and school context.
Santa Clara University MBA Admissions and Rounds
Leavey runs two MBA formats — the Evening MBA and the Executive MBA — since the full-time MBA was retired. Both are Silicon Valley focused and open to Indian applicants who can commit to on-campus evenings or intensive weekend residencies.
| Round | Deadline | Decision Window |
|---|---|---|
| Round 1 | 15 October 2026 | By mid-November 2026 |
| Round 2 | 15 January 2027 | By late February 2027 |
| Round 3 | 15 March 2027 | By mid-April 2027 |
| Round 4 (space permitting) | 15 May 2027 | By mid-June 2027 |
Leavey MBA Experience Requirements
The Evening MBA asks for a minimum of two years of full-time work experience post-graduation, with most admits carrying three to five years. The Executive MBA asks for eight years of experience, five of them in a management role. Both formats accept GMAT 630 plus or GRE 308 plus for the merit-based scholarship of USD 3,000 to 18,000 (INR 2.83 to 17.01 Lakhs). GMAT and GRE may be waived for admits with 5+ years of quantitative work experience.
Interview and Shortlisting
Every complete Leavey MBA file is reviewed for an interview invitation. Interviews run for 30 to 45 minutes on Zoom for Indian candidates, and are behavioural rather than case based. Shortlisting favours applicants with a clear post-MBA target in the Bay Area tech, fintech, or healthtech clusters.
Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official SCU page for your chosen program before applying.
SCU PhD Admissions and Funding
Santa Clara University offers a small set of PhD tracks anchored in the School of Engineering and select interdisciplinary programs. Cohorts are small, funded via research assistantships, and application review runs on a single deadline each year.
SCU PhD Application Timeline
The Fall 2027 PhD deadline is 15 December 2026 across the School of Engineering. Decisions release by early March 2027, with funded offers first and unfunded offers only where the department carries budget headroom.
Funding for Indian PhD Applicants
Funded PhD admits typically receive a full tuition waiver plus a research or teaching assistantship stipend of USD 24,000 to 30,000 (INR 22.68 to 28.35 Lakhs) per academic year for 2026-27. Indian PhD applicants can also stack the School of Engineering Graduate Merit Scholarship — see the funding for Indian students page for the full list.
Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official SCU page for your chosen program before applying.
Santa Clara University Application Process Step by Step
The SCU application flow splits by level. Undergraduate applicants use the Common Application; graduate applicants use the school-specific portal. Both flows read the file holistically, so essays and recommendation letters matter alongside marks.
- Create your account on the platform. Undergraduate applicants open a Common Application profile, first available 1 August 2026 for the Fall 2027 cycle. Graduate applicants create an account on the Leavey or Engineering portal.
- Add Santa Clara University to your college list and pick the entry term (Fall 2027) and round (EA, ED, RD for UG).
- Fill the biographical and academic history section. Enter Class X and XII marks year by year for UG, and semester-by-semester Bachelor’s marks for PG.
- Upload the SOP or Common App personal essay plus any program-specific short responses. Leavey MS asks for a 500-word career goals essay.
- Request two recommendation letters from the platform. UG students need one teacher and one counsellor; PG students need two academic or professional recommenders.
- Send official TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo scores to SCU code 4851 (undergraduate) or the graduate program code.
- Pay the application fee of USD 60 (around INR 5,670) for undergraduate on the Common App portal, or USD 70 (around INR 6,615) for graduate programs.
- Submit and track your decision on the SCU applicant status portal once your file is complete.
SCU Admission Decision Timeline
Santa Clara releases decisions on a fixed calendar for undergraduate and a rolling calendar for most graduate programs. Indian applicants should plan the I-20 request the same day the acceptance releases.
- Undergraduate Early Action: decision by mid-January 2027, offer valid till 1 May 2027.
- Undergraduate Regular Decision: decision by 1 April 2027, deposit due 1 May 2027.
- Leavey MS: rolling decisions within 4 to 6 weeks of file completion.
- Engineering MS: rolling decisions within 6 to 8 weeks of file completion.
- Deferral policy: admitted UG students can defer for one year with a written petition; deferral is not automatic for graduate admits.
All offers list at least one condition — usually final Class XII marksheet or degree certificate proof — which the applicant clears before the I-20 issues.
Santa Clara University Documents Required for Indian Students
The document set below is the minimum ready-to-upload list for a Fall 2027 file. Missing one item stalls the whole application because SCU only starts holistic review once the file marks "complete" on the portal.
- Valid Indian passport with 18 plus months of validity from the intake start.
- Class X and Class XII marksheets and pass certificates for UG applicants.
- Bachelor’s semester-wise marksheets and degree certificate for PG applicants.
- Statement of Purpose or Common App personal essay, 500 to 650 words.
- Two Letters of Recommendation on institutional letterhead.
- Updated Resume or CV highlighting internships, projects, and leadership.
- Official English test score report (TOEFL, IELTS, PTE, or DET) sent from the testing body.
- Financial affidavit and bank statement covering one year of tuition and living costs for the I-20.
- Passport-size photographs matching US visa specifications.
- Work-experience letters for Leavey MBA and Engineering Management applicants.
Before you apply: Get your Class XII marksheet attested and scanned before the Common Application opens, since Indian board delays around results season can push your submission past a scholarship deadline.
SCU Acceptance Rate and Selectivity
Santa Clara University reports an undergraduate acceptance rate of about 49 percent in its most recent Common Data Set filing, making it a moderately selective admit within US News’ National Universities band. Graduate program acceptance varies by school and by year.
Program-Wise Selectivity at SCU
Leavey MSBA and MSIS report accept rates near 55 to 65 percent when the Indian applicant clears the GMAT 650 or GRE 315 mark. School of Engineering MS programs, especially Computer Science and Data Science, run tighter at 35 to 45 percent owing to volume. The Evening MBA, being cohort limited, runs near 60 percent for candidates with matching Bay Area work profiles.
What Moves the Needle for Indian Applicants
Class XII marks above 88 percent, quantitative test scores above the stated floor, and a Silicon Valley-aligned SOP move an SCU file from waitlist to admit. Test-optional UG applicants make up for missing SAT scores through strong essays and school context.
Insider note: SCU reads Indian Bachelor’s transcripts on a 10-point scale conversion; a CGPA of 7.0 out of 10 maps to a US GPA of about 3.0, which is the PG floor.
USA Student Visa Process for Santa Clara Students
Indian admits to Santa Clara University apply for the F-1 student visa after receiving the Form I-20 from SCU’s international office. The visa process runs through the US Consulate closest to your permanent address, and slots open six months before the program start.
Pay the SEVIS I-901 fee of USD 350 (around INR 33,075), then the visa application fee of USD 185 (around INR 17,483). Complete the DS-160 form, book a biometrics and consular interview, and carry the I-20, admission letter, financial proof, passport, and photograph to the interview. Financial proof must cover the first year — around USD 90,000 (INR 85.05 Lakhs) for UG and USD 60,000 to 80,000 for PG programs. Post-approval, students land in the US no earlier than 30 days before the I-20 program start and register with SEVIS within the first two weeks. Post-study work is 12 months of OPT, extending to 36 months for STEM-designated Leavey and Engineering programs.
2026 update: The US Consulates in Mumbai and Hyderabad have introduced dedicated F-1 slots each Wednesday for Fall intake applicants — book the interview inside the first two weeks of April 2027 for the smoothest visa turnaround.
Tips and Application Checklist for Santa Clara University
The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Santa Clara University, blending scholarship-timing insights with a paced submission plan for Fall 2027.
- Apply Early Action for scholarship priority: the Provost half-tuition award of about USD 32,868 (INR 31.06 Lakhs) reads the EA file first.
- Book the English test 10 months out: IELTS or TOEFL slots in Delhi and Bengaluru fill quickly for October to December.
- Request academic transcripts 8 weeks before the deadline from your board or university registrar.
- Line up two recommenders by 15 September 2026, and share your resume with them for context.
- Draft the SOP with a Bay Area angle: name faculty, labs, or clubs like the SCU Ciocca Center or the AI Practice.
- Submit the CSS Profile and financial affidavit together with your admissions file, not after the offer.
- Confirm your MOI letter format against SCU’s template before requesting the school seal.
- Track the applicant portal weekly — SCU marks "materials missing" without emailing outside major gaps.
- Book the F-1 visa interview inside two weeks of the SEVIS I-901 payment to lock a Consulate slot before the summer rush.
Indian applicants who follow the November to January cadence on the Common App and clear the April 1 scholarship priority for Leavey MS typically land the strongest combined admit-and-award result at SCU.
Santa Clara admissions reward early, quant-strong, Silicon Valley-aligned files, with the Common App EA on 1 November 2026 and the Leavey MS scholarship priority on 1 April 2027 as the two anchor dates for any Indian applicant this cycle.

- Small campus unlike its counterparts, the area of campus is small unlike other universities which spewed over vast acres of land with its own ecosystem, due its location, it is situated in city centre
Scholarship
- There were lot of scholarships awarded at the university I studied at; for example, the vice chancellor's scholarship for 12,000 pounds
- £7000, I received a scholarship.
- Yeah, most of them, but I can't exactly pinpoint the number.
- On average it is £2000-3000, and I can't roughly say the number of students who have received scholarships.

- The beautiful campus especially the library and the mission gardens. The mission gardens was a relaxing place.
- Proximity to big tech companies especially the company where I was interning.
- The location - San Francisco Bay Area, which has a pleasant weather throughout the year, cool breeze and top notch AQI compared to all Indian metro cities.
Dislikes
- Curriculum - Everyone had to take some core courses despite what their background was. For people who had already studied those, there was some repetition and unnecessary expenditure.
- Large intakes - The university had a huge intake for Computer Science and related branches which made most lectures Indian heavy in terms of student composition. So, the opportunity to interact with students of other backgrounds reduced.
- High expenditure - Being in the Bay Area, the university tuition fees and even the housing was quite expensive compared to other universities like Indiana University Bloomington, SUNY Buffalo and University of Florida.
Scholarship
- I did not receive any scholarship for this course and don’t know of people who received one. Although I am sure some of them might have received it. Scholarships are usually provided by professors who also expect that student to work as their assistant and lab technician. But I know for sure that very few people receive scholarships at US universities.

- This college is located in the Silicon Valley which is the best place to be right now given the current job market. There are a lot of companies, startups which located within a few miles of the college.
- The Bay Area weather , is something that feels just like home.
- Can take pretty much any course without much pre requisites which in contrast to other colleges required me to go through a strict pre req courses list.
Dislikes
- The campus size is not that big as compared to other universities (like UC’s ) in California.
- Limited number of on campus jobs.
- No financial support for international students since this is a private university.
Scholarship
- During the time of first enrolment of courses for the fall 2024 quarter, based on my undergrad grades, I was awarded a merit scholarship of $2,000, which was processed during the fee payment of the first quarter.
- Some of my batchmates have received the same merit-based scholarships, but there is no other financial aid given to international students. Around 20%–30% of students receive one-time merit-based scholarships.

- Beautiful campus
- Great opportunities for getting an on-campus job (95% of us eventually get one)
- Private university which means having a good teacher to student ratio
Dislikes
- The tuition can be quite expensive as compared to public universities
- Financial aid isn't usually provided by the department (school of engineering)
- The quarter system leads to having only 11 weeks for a course which can be less
Scholarship
- Unfortunately, no scholarships provided by school of engineering (that I have heard of)
- There is a possibility of you receiving a tuition-cover from a professor if you can get a research assistant position but it can be super rare
- I have received financial aid from my professor (which is different from a scholarship provided by the university)

- The campus of this university is too pretty yet very big, from cafe to libraries every class is air conditioned so that's the plus point.
- The college provides groceries and essential toiletries which really helps the student.
- Every person including the faculty members and students are really helpful.
Dislikes
- Can't really find anything which I didn't like but its too expensive for a private university.
Overview
I opted this university because of the area it was situated in. Bay area is known for its technology industry so it was easier for me to settle down here. The admission process was purely online. Once you meet the requirements provided by the university which is IELTS and your score in bachelors degree, then you are set to get into the university.

Overall I would say it’s a win win situation as my university is very well recognised here in the Silicon Valley & the alumni’s help a lot! The location is pretty good with almost similar weather conditions as in India, it is a bit exorbitant in terms of location but other than that everything seems to be fine.

- I had personal reasons that made me choose this school, I wanted to stay in Silicon Valley, for a private school, SCU fees is affordable for a foreign student, they had good placement history.
Overview
My overall experience is good so far, there’s a good learning curve- both personally and professionally, when you are in a foreign country with limited resources at your disposal. This makes us creative, hard-working and pro-active. The approach to education in USA is different than what I experienced in India, in the way that it’s more practical, can be tailored to your interest and fun indeed.

I hadn’t applied for scholarships but I was given one anyway, the scholarship didn’t have a name and amounted to $4000 for 2 years.

- The main factor for me to choose Santa Clara University was the location. Because it is bay area I thought it will help me with the placement and it surely did help a little but did not play a major role as I expected. But the weather conditions in Bay area makes it bearable.
Overview
Overall experience at the university was great. I learned a lot and the faculty and staff was also very helpful. The university has the best infrastructure compare to other universities. There are many clubs and events to support students coming in every quarter.
Scholarship
I haven't receive any scholarship but once you enroll in the university you can enroll in Teaching Assistance program which then pays for your tuitions.
