One of the three public research universities in New York, the State University of New York at Albany is the only one located in the state capital. Commonly referred to as the University at Albany or UAlbany is named as one of the top colleges in America according to Forbes magazine.
The university was established in 1844 as part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system. UAlbany has three campuses with the main campus referred to as the Uptown Campus located in New York. The main campus was designed by renowned American architect Edward Durell Stone, who designed Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center.
The student body at the university consists of around 13,250 undergraduates and 5,000 graduate students. Among these, approximately 1,800 students are international students representing 80 different countries who want to study in the USA. UAlbany offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs through nine schools and colleges. The nine colleges and schools at the university are:
Around 53 majors and 64 minors are offered at the undergraduate level at the university. Students have an option of designing their own interdisciplinary major. The university offers Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science in study areas such as arts, science, criminal justice, business, education, engineering, public health, public affairs and policies, etc.
The university also offers over 150 graduate programs through the Graduate School. Programs offered at the graduate level include Master of Arts; Master of Fine Arts; Master of International Affairs; Master of Public Affairs; Master of Public Health; Master of Regional Planning; Master of Science; Master of Social Work; Doctor of Philosophy; Doctor of Psychology, etc.
The university also offers six collaborative graduate degrees with the Albany Law School.

The University at Albany offers students both options for residences. Students can either stay on-campus or choose to stay in affordable student housing options off-campus. The on-campus student housing is offered through the Department of Residential Life.

UAlbany offers its students with financial aid to support their education while in the USA. There are various merit-based scholarships available to students at the university. International students can also apply for various external international scholarships to study in the USA. These are awarded by various organizations and agencies or even the respective he country government.
International students at UAlbany can receive up to 7,000 USD per year for all four years of study at the university. No additional scholarship applications are required and selected students are notified about the scholarship in writing.
The university also offers a limited number of graduate fellowships and assistantships to its graduate international students. These positions are awarded by the respective academic departments. The reputation was good, and the cost of living was also cheap. I also opted for this college because they offered financial aid and grants. That was what swayed me to choose here the most. I'm from California so I didn't want to move all the way to New York but education was my priority.
It's very challenging because a lot of critical thinking is required, but I am learning a lot through the curriculum. It's very fast paced and needs a lot of motivation to study alone. If you can't push yourself, it's gonna be hard to succeed.
