Courses

Whether a person wishes to be an artist or engineer, an accountant or CEO, the university offers a plethora of courses for incoming international students at the ranging levels of undergraduate and graduate. The available options include nearly 47 majors and over 65 minors to choose from. 

The available courses are taught across its 4 schools and colleges namely, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the College of Professional Studies, the Inamori School of Engineering and the Graduate School with the School of Business being a composite part of College of Professional Studies.

Campus

Located in the historic downtown of Alfred, New York, the campus of Alfred University is a comprehensive mix of the old and the new, the traditional and the modern. The sprawling campus of Alfred University is situated on the edge of a scenic hill with more than 200 acres plus another 400 acres nearby

The institute offers a diverse variety of more than 80 clubs and organizations for its students to choose from. In fact, the very environment at the university sings music, theatre, games, guest speakers and sports. And all of this is just for one week, there is much more to look forward to in a complete academic year.

Housing Options

On campus 

Alfred University offers its students with a variety of housing options which includes First Year, Mixed Class and Upper Class alternatives for first year students; first year, sophomore, junior & seniors and sophomores, juniors and seniors, respectively.

The students applying for residency get to choose from 4 traditional corridor-style halls which are co-ed by floor (a floor of men and a floor of women) and have open visitation. Then there are 4 traditional corridor-style halls co-ed by the door (with gender-specific bathrooms on each floor). 

The university also has a separate housing facility for its graduates available at 53 West University and 15 Terrace Street within a few minutes distance from the campus. The on campus housing rates are usually around 6,498 USD per year.

Off Campus

The university also offers off-campus accommodation alternative for individuals who maintain a good academic record and want to be released from the on-campus housing plan or students looking to have their private space.

How to Apply?

If you are a prospective student of the university, below mentioned requirements are some of the mandatory specifications you must fulfill to successfully enroll with the institute.

Specific requirements: Academic records/transcripts to be mailed in a sealed and signed envelope or sent digitally, essay or personal statement, letter of recommendation (at least 1), Art Portfolio for the aspirants of School of Art and Design and other program-specific requirements might apply.

Additional requirements: Copy of the Biographic Page of the Passport, Bank Statement, ID Proof, Financial Documentation to support I-134 and Alfred University Supplemental Form, Valid student Visa.

Standardized Test Scores: 

  1. SAT or ACT scores must be submitted. A composite ACT score between 20 and 29 is safe enough to apply
  2. English language proficiency scores like TOEFL, IELTS or equivalent. A TOEFL Score of 80 and above or IELTS score of minimum 6.0 or better is acceptable.

Scholarships and Financial Aid

The university provides financial aid in various forms like grants, awards and scholarships for international students to study in the USA. The awards usually range between 8,000 to 18,000 USD per annum and are offered on the basis of various factors like financial need and merit. 

Here are a few scholarships that can be availed by the first year international aspirants of the institute:

  1. The Presidential Scholarship: one of the highest competitive awards offered to o 15 students with spectacular academic record and promising performance for the future. It amounts to 1,500 USD per trimester and is renewable for up to 10 trimesters. Candidates with a GPA of 3.6 or more studying full-time at the institute can submit their applications by 1st December.
  2. Art Portfolio Scholarship: Designed for the students enrolled in the School of Art and Design, this studentship requires students to submit their portfolios for review. The eligible students must submit their entries by February 1 for being eligible for the award.
  3. Competition Scholarship:An award available for first year students of the institute competing in areas of engineering, mathematics and English. The offered amount ranges between 1,000 to 2,500 USD, per year and is renewable if the candidate maintains a minimum average GPA of 3.0 and is enrolled in a full-time course with the university.

Apart from these the students at Alfred University also have a chance at assisting their tuition through outside scholarships which include-Jonathan Allen Scholarship, King Alfred Scholarship (first-year students only), Saxon Award (first-year students only), 1836 Scholarship and many more. The amount awarded by each of these scholarships varies year to year along with their deadlines.

Alumni Network

The very well renowned among the students at the college is the Alfred University Alumni Association that was established years ago and aims at encouraging fellowship among the graduates of the college, be it the former students or the faculty, promote goodwill in the community, and help them create a dynamic alumni program that will stimulate interest, build loyalty, increase involvement and generate support for the university.
