The University of Mary Hardin Baylor is a Christ-centered learning community and the oldest college located in Belton which is the heart of Central Texas. The campus of the university is spread across 340 acres and is also one of the safest in the nation. At UMHB students get to select from over 70 academic programs that are available on campus, hybrid as well as online. 

The student-faculty ratio of 18:1 makes it easier for students to experience expert training from teachers. At the same time, almost 96% of the first time students get financial aid in some form or the other. Students at UMHB get an extraordinary experience as 90% of them live on campus and grow with students from different communities. Programs, Faculties, and Divisions

The University of Mary Hardin Baylor offers undergraduate as well as graduate courses in multiple disciplines some of which include accounting, business administration, education, nursing, management, journalism, music, etc. Some programs are available online too. 

Many of the graduate programs have been designed to suit full time employed students in Central Texas as the classes are held either online or in the evening on campus. The teaching methodology by expert faculty members has been supported by state-of-the-art facilities. Along with several hybrid programs, there are 2 completely online programs i.e. the MyWay program and the Master of Science in Sports Administration.

University of Mary Hardin Baylor Campus

The campus of the university is spread across an area of 340 acres. It is known to be one of the safest campuses in the nation. It provides multiple on-campus housing options to students where nearly 94% of the students reside. The campus has a central location 60 miles from Austin towards its North. 

Apart from the academic facilities, the campus provides large spaces for various athletic sports like the Andersen Field House, Dee Dillon Softball Field, Football Practice fields, soccer fields, tennis center, and others. Brindley auditorium, Lord Conference Center and McLane Great Hall provide spaces for meeting and hosting events. Office buildings on campus are named Clements center, Head Hall, Moon building and Sanderford Administrative complex. Other facilities for student recreation include Mabee-Farris recreation gymnasium, outdoor recreation courts, Chapels, etc.

Housing Facilities

The University of Mary Hardin Baylor provides on-campus housing to students. The selection of housing is an online process. Freshman students are not allowed to stay outside campus if they are not with their parents, over 21 years, they are a part-time student. Housing options are divided into female halls, male halls and apartments.

  • Female Halls – The female halls on campus are Burt Hall, Johnson Hall, Remschel Hall, Beall Hall, Lord Hall, and Stribling Hall. These halls have been designed with different accommodation options like suite rooms that offer single occupancy, double occupancy or 3 double-occupancy rooms. Some include private bathrooms, living rooms, kitchen, etc.
  • Male Halls – Gettys Hall, McLane Hall, Beall Hall, and Lord Hall are the male halls on campus. These halls are also planned with suite rooms that include single occupancy rooms, double occupancy rooms, and 3 double-occupancy rooms. Based on the choice of the hall, students will get either community bathrooms or private bathrooms with/ without a living room and kitchen.
  • Apartments – Apartment-style housing named Independence Village Garner Hall, Independence Village 2-person, Independence Village-4 person, Farris Hall and College View are also popular housing options for students. These housing options have 1 to 4 bedroom apartments with either a private or shared bathroom facility.

Most of the graduate students at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor choose to stay off-campus. They can look for affordable student housing options nearby the campus that includes homestays, rented or shared apartments, etc. 

Meal plans are included in the price of the room but can be adjusted as per the requirement of the residents. 

Application Process

The application process for admissions to the University of Mary Hardin Baylor might vary based on their status i.e. whether they are first-time students, transfer students, online students or international students. Following the submission of application and acceptance, students must submit their enrollment and housing deposit before further steps. Before arriving at campus, students will have to register for Cru Camp. All the necessary details for international students regarding the process of application have been provided below.

How to apply: Interested applicants can submit their applications online or download a paper application and mail it to 900 College Street, UMHB Box 8004, Belton, TX-76513.

Application Fee: 135 USD

Application Deadline: Applications are accepted by the university on a rolling basis. However, students should start the application process from June following which they must plan a fall campus visit. The enrollment deposit is expected to be submitted by May 1.

Admission Requirements: International students will have to submit some documents as a part of the application process. These requirements are as follows:

  • Applicants must submit their transcripts of high school which must show the details of the program completed such as a diploma or certificate. All the submitted documents must be translated into English.
  • International students have to provide proof of English proficiency in the form of scores of either TOEFL or IELTS. Students who do not meet the required level of English proficiency will have to take intermediate and advanced level ESOL.
  • Applicants will also have to provide their immunization records.
  • A statement of understanding is also required to be submitted along with the application. 
  • A copy of the applicant’s passport identification page. The passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the enrollment date.
  • After being accepted, students must submit a certified Affidavit of Support showing a financial position to cover the total cost of studying at UHMB.
  • Any previous I-20s of the student also needs to be submitted.

The graduate tuition fee is 970 USD per credit hour. The graduate programs at the university are 36 credit hour programs. Therefore the total graduate tuition fee at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor is 34,920 USD. Since most of the graduate students choose to stay off-campus, the estimated living expenses for a semester are 3,500 USD- 4,000 USD.

Scholarship and Financial Aids

The University of Mary Hardin Baylor offers a number of financial aid options. Most of these are based on need and require a FAFSA application. However, international students looking for financial assistance can apply for merit scholarships. 

There are high possibilities for undergraduate international students to receive a scholarship of 3,750 USD per semester up to 8 semesters or a total of 30,000 USD. Undergraduate students will be selected based on their SAT or ACT scores. Higher their scores, higher will be the chances of receiving the scholarship. 

Graduate students will be judged upon their academic standing if they are enrolled for 9 semester hours of classes. These students will be eligible to get 1,000 USD per semester as a scholarship. Graduate students can get the scholarship for up to 4 consecutive semesters. The amount of these scholarships will be directly credited to the student’s tuition and fees statement at the beginning of the semester.

International students can also apply for international scholarships to study in the USA that are awarded by their home country government and also by various private organizations and agencies. 

Work while you Study

Work-study is awarded to students as a part of their financial aid. The students who accept work are paid every alternate Friday by the Bursar’s Office. To be authorized to work the following requirements need to be met by the students:

  • Submit a copy of their work permit for financial aid.
  • Fill a Student Worker Agreement Form before commencing the work.
  • Submit the I-9 document and W-4 form to the financial aid.

Students get paid at a rate of 7.25 USD per hour and can work for a maximum of 193 hours per semester. This means they can earn up to 1,400 USD per semester during the fall and spring. On average a student is expected to work for 13 hours a week to get the full benefit by the end of the semester. It must be noted that it is completely the responsibility of students to keep a track of the hours worked and target to earn the entire amount of award.
