University of Washington, Bothell Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
UW Bothell holds the standard University of Washington admission bar, adjusted for international documentation. The core requirements for Indian PG and UG applicants are listed below.
Postgraduate requirements:
- Academic: Bachelor’s degree with CGPA 6.5/10 or 65% aggregate in the last two years (recommended for the published 3.0/4.0 GPA minimum)
- English: TOEFL iBT 92, IELTS 7.0 or Duolingo 125 (PG typical minimums; individual programmes may set higher bars)
- Credential evaluation: WES, ECE or IEE course-by-course report submitted directly to the UW Graduate School
- Standardised tests: GMAT or GRE optional for MBA; recommended only if GPA is below 3.0 or you lack quantitative coursework
Undergraduate requirements:
- Academic: Class 12 with 55% to 60% aggregate or GPA 2.0/4.0 (recommended)
- English: TOEFL iBT 83, IELTS 6.5, Duolingo 105, iTEP 3.9 or GATEWAY 475 (UG minimums)
- CADR coverage: 4 years English, 3 years math through algebra II, 3 years science (2 lab-based), 2 years same world language
Note: UW Bothell does not grant an automatic English test waiver for Indian applicants. India is not on the country exemption list, so IELTS or TOEFL is mandatory unless you completed 90 US transferable quarter credits or hold a US bachelor’s degree.
University of Washington, Bothell Acceptance Rate 2027
UW Bothell does not publish an official acceptance rate. Third-party analysis places it in the 85% to 90% (estimated) range, reflecting the campus’s regional-university mission and holistic review policy.
Selectivity varies sharply by programme. Competitive graduate tracks like MSCSSE apply tighter caps than the campus average. Indian applicants meeting the stated academic minimums typically receive strong consideration when documentation is complete and English scores clear the threshold.
Reality check: a high acceptance rate does not equal easy admission for competitive graduate tracks. MSCSSE and Cybersecurity Engineering cohorts remain selective by portfolio, academic depth and English proficiency.

University of Washington, Bothell vs Peer Universities
UW Bothell competes with regional public universities across the US Pacific Northwest and comparable STEM-focused campuses on the West Coast. The peer set below covers same-tier and near-tier institutions Indian applicants shortlist alongside UW Bothell.
| University | Location | US News 2026 | Differentiator for Indian Students |
|---|---|---|---|
| University of Washington, Bothell | Bothell, WA | #6 Regional Universities West | STEM-designated MSCSSE with University of Washington system diploma |
| University of Washington, Tacoma | Tacoma, WA | Regional West ranked | Sister UW campus, shared diploma, similar fee band |
| San Jose State University | San Jose, CA | Regional West ranked | Silicon Valley recruiting corridor |
| Portland State University | Portland, OR | National ranked | Urban Portland tech and healthcare hiring |
| Western Washington University | Bellingham, WA | Regional West ranked | Coastal campus, smaller cohorts |
Key insight: the University of Washington system diploma at a materially lower total cost than UW Seattle is the single hardest-to-match combination in this peer set for Indian STEM applicants.
UW Bothell stands out with its US News Regional Universities West #6 position and the University of Washington system diploma at a lower total cost than the Seattle flagship. For Indian STEM applicants targeting Puget Sound employers, this combination is difficult to match at the same fee band.
University of Washington, Bothell fits Indian STEM applicants targeting the Seattle tech corridor without the intense competition of the flagship Seattle campus. Total investment for the MSCSSE track sits around INR 46 lakh in tuition plus living, well below UW Seattle’s cost band, while the market-median starting salary of USD 81,000 supports repayment on standard education loans. The Autumn 2027 pathway includes F-1 sponsorship and STEM OPT eligibility through the MS in USA visa pathway.
UW Bothell suits less if you want a large-scale campus with high international density, since it enrols 6,000 students with 7% international. Indian applicants prioritising a broader alumni network in tech should also weigh San Jose State University or Portland State University against this option.

- The environment seemed very welcoming and nice and I choose my program because I wanted to make a difference.
Overview
This college is very nice and everyone is so helpful I loved it here.
Campus Life
There is a lot of clubs and events, especially Indian events. There is free wifi and free sports facilities.
Overview
One of the primary reasons I chose to attend UW was because the faculty of the Neuroscience department is highly ranked and regarded throughout the nation. UW has a strong research infrastructure which suited my interests and career prospects. The location also played a significant role in my decision as I preferred living in a city rather than a college town. Being a public university, the tuition was also reasonable compared to private universities. Additionally, other students from my high school also chose to go to UW which gave me further confidence in my choice.
Overview
I got to know about the University of Washington - Bothell Campus through a friend whose sibling pursued her undergraduate studies here. After doing thorough research I decided to apply. I had paid an application fee of $60. Having scored a good percentage in my high school (science stream) helped during the admission process, which was completely done through the online portal.
Fees
The tuition that I pay is $12,500 along with various other fees like student technology fees, sports and recreation complex fees and service and activity fees and an international student fee of $45. Various scholarships and financial aid were available for us. I had applied for merit-based scholarship during the time of admission.
