DePaul University Application Process

DePaul University uses a single online application system for both graduate and undergraduate international admission. Every application step is completed on the university’s own portal, and third-party fee waivers are not available for international applicants.

  1. Choose your program and intake on the DePaul department page, and note the exact quarter deadline.
  2. Create an account on the DePaul international admission portal.
  3. Pay the application fee of USD 75 (around INR 7,154) during submission - no waivers for international applicants.
  4. Upload academic transcripts, English test scores, statement of purpose, resume, and letters of recommendation.
  5. Submit the application. DePaul’s free course-by-course transcript evaluation begins on submission.
  6. Track your application in the applicant portal. Decisions arrive by email in 4 to 8 weeks.
  7. Once admitted, submit financial documentation to trigger the SEVIS I-20 issuance.

Admission Decisions Timeline for Indian Applicants

Graduate decisions arrive within 4 to 8 weeks of a completed application. Undergraduate Early Action decisions arrive by late December for a November 15 submission. Admitted students have flexible deposit windows, and DePaul does not charge a large enrollment deposit. Deferral requests to the next quarter are considered on a case-by-case basis.

DePaul University Documents Required for Indian Students

DePaul asks for a compact document list, but I-20 issuance requires a second round of financial paperwork after admission. Prepare both sets in parallel to avoid delays before the F-1 visa interview.

Documents Submitted with the Application

  • Class XII marksheet and passing certificate (for UG applicants).
  • Bachelor’s transcripts and degree certificate (for PG applicants).
  • Master’s transcripts and degree (for PhD applicants).
  • Statement of Purpose covering academic goals and program fit.
  • Two to three Letters of Recommendation, academic or professional.
  • Updated resume or CV covering education and work experience.
  • English proficiency score report (IELTS, TOEFL iBT, DET, or PTE).
  • GRE or GMAT score if submitting for scholarship signal or PhD.
  • Copy of the passport bio-page.

Documents for I-20 Issuance

  • Bank statement showing first-year cost coverage.
  • Signed Financial Affidavit of Support form.
  • Sponsor’s affidavit if funding comes from a parent or relative.
  • Copy of passport identification page (uploaded again if updated).

DePaul University Acceptance Rate for Indian Students

DePaul’s Fall 2024 undergraduate acceptance rate was 76%, drawn from 31,266 applications and 23,729 admits. This puts DePaul in the accessible band of US private universities, and it holds a solid ranking band in Illinois and US News national tables.

Why the Rate Favors Prepared Indian Applicants

DePaul admits most applicants who meet its stated academic and English requirements, but Indian applicants should not read the 76 percent as automatic. Applicants with Class XII below 65 percent or IELTS below 6.5 face rejection even at this rate. Match the floor first, then compete for scholarships.

Graduate Program Acceptance Trends

Graduate acceptance is program-specific and not published as one number. CDM’s MS Computer Science and MS Data Science admit selectively based on prior GPA and prerequisites. Kellstadt’s MBA is more open, but scholarship consideration tightens the effective bar for Indian applicants without work experience.

Insider note: Indian applicants with a 70 percent-plus Bachelor’s and IELTS 7.0 have historically converted DePaul admits into full-time SDE and analyst offers in Chicago within the OPT window.

DePaul University offers Indian students an accessible admit with a 76 percent acceptance rate, a Fall 2027 primary intake with a June 15 deadline, and a Winter 2027 window still open till October 15, 2026. Base graduate tuition of USD 886 (INR 84,516) per credit and a USD 75 (INR 7,154) application fee make it a competitive Chicago-based option for MS, MBA, and PhD applicants.

Overview

I chose DePaul because of it's location as I wanted to live in a large, diverse area. The MBA program is broad and recognized globally. My experience at DePaul was absolutely great. I enjoyed the campus life and living in Lincoln Park, Chicago. I also enjoyed the classes and professors. Many of my professors had their doctorate degree. I also gained real work experience by working full time during my time as an MBA student. The professors and faculty at DePaul understood that I was a full time worker and were flexible based on these demands. I would definitely recommend DePaul to other students.

Overview

I needed to submit an Educational Credentials Evaluation report, Statement of Purpose and Resume. In my SoP, I talked about the purpose and motivations behind pursuing the MS in Business Analytics degree. I choose this course because of the curriculum of the program and huge variety of elective classes and major options. Also the flexibility of taking classes, changing majors (if needed), and helpful faculty. I've been enjoying my time at DePaul so far. Since we have a quarter (10-week) system here instead of semesters - the assignments, quizzes, etc. are given to us weekly with weekly deadlines to meet. The workload can get quite hectic but that kind of workload and effort is expected from a Master's program. It's not easy, but at the end you will feel accomplished and that it was worthwhile. I've made some great friends here as well!

Scholarship

Yes, I received the Dean's Scholarship of $7,800 for the whole program.

Overview

I chose DePaul University due to its two wonderful locations. The main campus in Lincoln Park and the business school in the Loop (Downtown Chicago).

I received the first generation college student scholarship. This included approximately $5,000 per quarter, or $15,000 per school year.
