Indian applicants targeting graduate admission should review the individual department page for the MS admissions in USA timeline, since Moore School programmes, Engineering, and Public Health each publish different cutoffs.
Planning note: Indian applicants should begin credential verification with WES 6 to 8 weeks before submitting, since WES ICAP evaluations require original transcripts and mark sheets to be sent directly by the issuing institution.

University of South Carolina, Columbia Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
The University of South Carolina requires Indian applicants to demonstrate academic eligibility, English proficiency, and (for most graduate programmes) submit a WES-verified transcript evaluation.
Postgraduate:
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum 55% or CGPA 5.5/10 (recommended); Moore School programmes prefer 65% or CGPA 6.5/10
- TOEFL iBT 4.0 (1-6 scale, for tests taken on or after January 21, 2026) or TOEFL iBT 80 (0-120 legacy scale, for earlier tests); IELTS 6.5; PTE Academic 53; Duolingo 120
- WES ICAP credential evaluation for Indian transcripts
- GMAT or GRE for Moore School MBA and IMBA; GRE optional for most STEM masters
Undergraduate:
- Class 12 (CBSE/ISC/state boards) with a minimum 70% aggregate (recommended); competitive programmes prefer 80% and above
- TOEFL iBT 5.0 (1-6 scale) or TOEFL iBT 77 (legacy scale); IELTS 6.5; PTE 53; Duolingo 115
- SAT and ACT are test-optional for Fall 2027, but proof of English proficiency remains mandatory for Indian applicants
Applicants can review the accepted TOEFL scores for top US universities and the IELTS band requirement for the USA to benchmark their scores before applying.
Key insight: USC accepts three-year Indian bachelor’s degrees for many graduate programmes, but Moore School may require a four-year degree or equivalent NASBA/AACSB-mapped credential; confirm with the specific department before applying.
University of South Carolina, Columbia Acceptance Rate 2027
The University of South Carolina operates a moderately selective admission profile with an estimated 62% (estimated) overall acceptance rate at the undergraduate level, based on publicly available application-to-admit ratios. The university does not publish disaggregated international admit rates.
| Year | Acceptance Rate | Trend |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 (Fall 2026 entry) | 62% (estimated) | Stable |
| 2025 (Fall 2025 entry) | 64% (estimated) | Stable |
Moore School’s IMBA and MS Business Analytics run tighter admit rates due to cohort caps; Engineering and Arts and Sciences masters admit at healthier rates. Indian applicants with a WES-verified 3.0 GPA equivalent (~60% or CGPA 6.0/10) and valid English scores typically clear the academic bar.
Reality check: A 62% admit rate looks generous, but Indian applicants still need a differentiated statement of purpose and a WES ICAP-verified transcript; incomplete file submissions are the single largest reason for late-cycle rejections.

University of South Carolina, Columbia Scholarships 2027
The University of South Carolina operates a mix of internal awards and departmental assistantships open to Indian applicants; no marquee scholarship targets Indian nationals exclusively, but the International Student Excellence Scholarship and graduate assistantships are the two most accessible funding routes.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| International Student Excellence Scholarship | Merit | USD 500 per year (INR 0.48 lakh) | F-1 international, full-time, CGPA 3.5+, enrolled 2 semesters | May 2027 (verify at sc.edu/iss) |

[Source: University of South Carolina International Student and Scholar Support; Graduate School Fellowships]
Planning note: The International Student Excellence Scholarship at USD 500 per year is a symbolic award; Indian applicants targeting real fee reduction should apply for graduate assistantships during the admission cycle itself, as post-admission requests are rarely funded.

Collegedunia Study Abroad ranks USC #144 of 357 USA universities, #176 globally for Law, and #257 globally for Engineering in 2026. Subject strengths per ARWU GRAS 2025 include Political Sciences (#36), Hospitality and Tourism (#36), Law (#40), and Business Administration (#76-100).
Key insight: USC’s QS band of #711-720 comfortably clears the top-500 threshold that Indian employers and US H-1B lottery-adjacent tech firms informally screen for; the Moore School’s #75 QS subject rank in International Business is a stronger signal than the overall world rank for business-track applicants.

University of South Carolina, Columbia Placements and Career Outcomes 2027
The University of South Carolina does not publish a consolidated placement rate for its international cohort; available salary data reflects market medians for USC bachelor’s and master’s graduates entering the US labour market.
- Undergraduate median starting salary: USD 56,000 per year (INR 53.61 lakh, market median)
- Master’s early-career salary: USD 79,000 per year (INR 75.63 lakh, market median)
- Top-earning UG programmes: Chemical Engineering (USD 68,800; INR 65.87 lakh), Electrical Engineering (USD 67,000; INR 64.15 lakh), International Business (USD 66,800; INR 63.96 lakh) (market median)
- Career support: University Career Center runs on-campus recruiting fairs, Handshake employer access, and dedicated international-student advising
- Post-study work: All F-1 graduates access 12 months of OPT; STEM programmes extend eligibility to 36 months via the STEM OPT extension
Indian graduates from Moore School’s IMBA and STEM masters typically enter analytics, consulting, and engineering roles across the US Southeast (Charlotte, Atlanta, Nashville) and remote-first tech firms. Applicants can review the post-study work visa in USA guide for OPT and STEM OPT application steps.
Insider note: Indian graduates report that Columbia’s Southeast tech hub proximity (Charlotte 145 km away) drives most non-Moore placements; the USC-specific recruiter list is narrower than metropolitan peers, so proactive internship applications during first summer are critical.
University of South Carolina, Columbia vs Peer Universities
Indian applicants comparing the University of South Carolina typically benchmark it against similarly ranked public research universities in the Southeast United States on fee and programme differentiators.
| University | Avg Annual PG Fee (USD) | Avg Annual PG Fee (INR lakh) | One-line Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|
| University of South Carolina, Columbia | 29,760 | 28.49 lakh | Darla Moore International Business strength; #75 QS Business Masters |
| Clemson University | 25,000 to 32,000 (estimated) | 23.94 to 30.64 lakh (estimated) | Land-grant engineering focus with lower fee base |

| University of Alabama | 32,000 to 40,000 (estimated) | 30.64 to 38.30 lakh (estimated) | Broader business, law and communications programme portfolio |

[Source: University Bursar Offices; Collegedunia peer fee database 2026]
USC stands out for its International MBA and international business masters, which few Southeast peers match. Applicants prioritising engineering research usually shortlist Clemson or NC State; USC wins on business, law, and hospitality-tourism specialisations.
The University of South Carolina fits an Indian applicant with a USD 45 to 60 lakh two-year budget who wants moderate selectivity, a Southeast US location, and Moore School’s international business specialisation, all pointing to a defensible salary anchor of USD 79,000 (market median) against total investment. The 36-month STEM OPT and Moore’s #75 QS Business Masters position make it a pragmatic anchor for career-focused Indian applicants targeting the US Southeast tech and analytics job market.
It is a weaker fit for applicants chasing top-100 world ranks or elite consulting or investment-banking recruitment; those cohorts should compare with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill or Emory University, both of which offer stronger name-recognition premia at higher cost.
University of South Carolina, Columbia FAQs
Ques. Does University of South Carolina accept three-year Indian bachelor’s degrees for masters?
Ans. Most USC graduate programmes accept three-year Indian bachelor’s degrees when accompanied by a WES ICAP evaluation confirming US-equivalent bachelor’s status. Moore School programmes and select engineering masters may require a four-year degree or additional post-graduate coursework. Applicants should submit the WES report early and confirm equivalency directly with the target department before paying the application fee, since equivalency practices vary by school.
Ques. Can Indian applicants waive the GRE or GMAT for USC graduate programmes?
Ans. Most STEM masters at USC list GRE as optional, and Moore School may waive GMAT or GRE for applicants with three or more years of managerial work experience or a strong quantitative bachelor’s degree. Waiver requests are submitted with the application. Indian applicants targeting IMBA should still consider a GMAT score above 630 to strengthen scholarship candidacy, even where the test is technically optional.
Ques. How much can international students earn from on-campus jobs at USC Columbia?
Ans. F-1 students can work up to 20 hours per week during semesters at USD 9 to 17 per hour on-campus, totalling USD 720 to 1,360 per month (INR 0.69 to 1.30 lakh). Common on-campus roles include library assistants, dining services, and research or teaching assistantships. On-campus wages typically cover food and personal expenses; tuition still requires assistantships, loans, or family funding.
Ques. Which Indian banks offer education loans for USC Columbia?
Ans. All major Indian public and private banks fund USC Columbia loans, including SBI Global Ed-Vantage, HDFC Credila, Axis Bank, ICICI, and Bank of Baroda, since USC is a SEVP-approved US university. NBFC lenders like Avanse, Auxilo, and InCred also fund USC admits. Collateral-free loans up to INR 40 lakh are standard, with secured loans available up to INR 1.5 crore for full cost coverage.
Ques. What financial proof does USC require for the I-20 issuance?
Ans. USC requires an I-20 financial certification document showing liquid funds covering one full year of tuition plus living costs, typically USD 48,000 to 55,000 (INR 45.96 to 52.66 lakh). Acceptable proofs include Indian bank statements, sanction letters from education loan lenders, sponsor affidavits with bank statements, and fixed-deposit certificates. Documents must be dated within six months of I-20 submission.
Ques. How long does OPT last for University of South Carolina STEM graduates?
Ans. Standard OPT allows 12 months of post-completion work for all F-1 graduates regardless of major. Graduates of USC’s STEM-designated programmes (including MS Computer Science, MS Electrical Engineering, MEng Mechanical Engineering, and MS Business Analytics) qualify for a 24-month STEM OPT extension, totalling 36 months of US work authorisation. Non-STEM masters and IMBA graduates cap at the standard 12 months.
Ques. Is the application fee waived for Indian applicants to USC Columbia?
Ans. USC charges USD 65 for undergraduate international applications and USD 50 to 100 for graduate applications, varying by department. Fee waivers are limited and typically restricted to McNair Scholars, Fulbright candidates, and specific partner-institution nominees. Indian applicants outside these categories generally pay the standard fee. Moore School programmes charge higher application fees reflecting the specialised admission review.
Ques. Which intake is better for Indian applicants at USC Columbia?
Ans. Fall (August) intake is the preferred cycle for Indian applicants, offering the widest programme catalogue, full scholarship and assistantship rounds, and standard I-20 processing windows aligned with Indian visa slot availability. Spring (January) intake is limited to selected graduate programmes and does not admit new international undergraduate freshmen. Fall admits also align cleanly with the US recruiting cycle and internship applications.

My entire family has graduated from the university of South Carolina. An experience, I will not forget it has been a true honor to attend the university of South Carolina, where both my biological father and stepfather uncle and many other family members have graduated from.

Overview
My experience, especially as a recent transfer student to my institution, has been swell. I personally enjoy the city and feel happier walking around campus because of its location. It provides a better sense of community and a lot more activities for people. There are also many opportunities for research that I think are great for students.
Campus Life
There are many clubs and events for all students. There are multiple libraries and buildings for people to work and a good sense of community.
Overview
I like the University of South Carolina because it was a big football school. I also liked that it was close to home. The student life at this school is amazing and there is always something to do. The professors really push the students to do well here and they try to help everyone succeed.
Fees
The fee structure was by semester and other charges are usually the summer before the school year begins.
Overview
Scholarship offerings were better than other institutions. It was also close to home so I knew the area. The campus was beautiful and after taking a tour I knew it was a place where I could be happy.
Fees
I had tuition covered due to some of my scholarships. I did have to pay around $300 a semester for university fees. The meal plan was pretty expensive and not worth it in my opinion.
