Kent State University Application Process
Kent State uses its own direct portal for both undergraduate and graduate applications; there is no Common Application route. The seven steps below take an Indian applicant from account creation to admission decision.
- Create an account on the apply.kent.edu portal and pick the target intake and program.
- Pay the application fee of $70 (around ₹6,674) on the apply.kent.edu portal; it is non-refundable.
- Upload Class XII or Bachelor’s transcripts with certified English translation.
- Upload IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, or Duolingo score reports as scanned PDFs; TOEFL takers can send scores directly via ETS using Kent State’s institution code 1367.
- Add SOP, resume, and letters of recommendation as required by the program.
- Track application status through the FlashLine portal after submission.
- Once admitted, submit financial documentation to trigger the I-20 issue for the F-1 visa.
Kent State Admission Decisions and Offer Timeline
Admission decisions typically arrive within 4 to 6 weeks of a completed application, and faster for undergraduate rolling submissions. Kent State issues conditional admission for applicants slightly below the English minimums, tied to ESL coursework at Level 8. There is no formal deposit deadline for international students; accepting the offer requires submitting the financial affidavit and passport bio page to activate the I-20 issue.
Kent State University Documents Required
Indian applicants must upload the documents below in the apply.kent.edu portal or email them to intladm@kent.edu. Missing or unreadable documents are the single most common cause of application delay, so scan cleanly and label files with your name and program.
- Passport bio page (colour scan, valid for at least six months beyond intended stay).
- Class XII marksheet and passing certificate for UG applicants; Bachelor’s transcripts and degree certificate for graduate applicants, all with certified English translations.
- Official English proficiency score report (IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, or Duolingo).
- Statement of Purpose covering academic goals, program fit, and post-study intent.
- Two letters of recommendation (academic for freshers, one professional acceptable for those with work experience).
- Professional resume or CV, especially for MBA and graduate applicants.
- Financial documentation proving one full academic year of funds (bank statement, education loan sanction letter, or sponsor affidavit). Submitted after admission for I-20.
- GRE or GMAT score report where the program requires it (MS Data Science from Fall 2024 needs GRE).
- Portfolio for Architecture and Fashion Design applicants.
Kent State University Acceptance Rate
Kent State runs an access-oriented admissions model, meaning it admits a large share of applicants who meet published minimums rather than filtering on selectivity. This is a decisive frame for Indian applicants weighing Kent State against more selective US schools.
What is Kent State’s Institutional Acceptance Rate?
The overall institutional acceptance rate at Kent State University sits at around 87%, based on the most recently reported first-year admissions cycle. The university does not publish a separately-reported international acceptance rate as a standing institutional figure. For the ranking context that shapes this admissions accessibility, see the Kent State ranking band.
Kent State Program Selectivity for Indian Applicants
Selectivity varies sharply by program. MS Computer Science and MS Data Science draw large Indian applicant pools each cycle, so completed applications with GPA in the 3.2 to 3.5 band, TOEFL 90+, and clear CS prerequisites see the strongest offer rates. Master of Architecture, MS Aerospace Engineering, and the Full-Time MBA cohort admit smaller numbers, so portfolio quality and quantitative course grades weigh more heavily. Undergraduate admission for Class XII completers with 60% and IELTS 6.0 is highly accessible.
Insider note: Kent State’s high headline acceptance rate does not mean automatic admission. Missing a single item (English translation of a marksheet, financial affidavit, prerequisite course) is the top reason Indian applicants get held in incomplete status past the intake close.
Kent State University sits in the accessible-entry, STEM-designated tier of US public research universities, with rolling deadlines, no application-fee surprises, and MBA / MS routes that waive standardised tests. For Indian applicants who meet the 60% Class XII or 65% Bachelor’s floor with IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 71, the offer conversion is high; the real work is in submitting a clean, complete file well before the visa window closes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Ques. When should Indian students apply to Kent State University for Fall 2027?
Ans. Submit the application on apply.kent.edu by the preferred deadline of 1 June 2027 for undergraduate and 15 June 2027 for MS Computer Science or Data Science. Indian applicants are strongly advised to apply 2 to 3 months earlier to leave room for the F-1 visa timeline.
Ques. What is the minimum IELTS score for Kent State University?
Ans. The institution-wide undergraduate and graduate minimum is IELTS 6.0. The Full-Time MBA, MS Business Analytics, MS Aerospace Engineering, and most professional master’s programs raise this to IELTS 6.5.
Ques. Does Kent State accept a three-year Bachelor’s degree from India for master’s admission?
Ans. Kent State evaluates Indian three-year Bachelor’s degrees on a case-by-case basis through its international credential review. Applicants with three-year degrees from UGC-recognised universities in disciplines like B.Com, BA, and BBA are often accepted; STEM applicants with three-year B.Sc may be asked for an additional bridging year or a PG diploma.
Ques. Is GRE required for MS programs at Kent State?
Ans. GRE is required for MS Data Science from Fall 2024 onward. MS Computer Science and most other master’s programs are GRE-optional and admit strong Indian applicants without a score, though a competitive GRE strengthens funding candidacy.
Ques. Does Kent State waive GMAT or GRE for the MBA?
Ans. Yes. The Ambassador Crawford College waives both GMAT and GRE for all three MBA formats (Full-Time, Part-Time, Online). Admission rests on the 3.0 GPA floor, two quantitative prerequisites, resume, goal statement, and English proficiency.
Ques. What is Kent State’s application fee for Indian students?
Ans. A single non-refundable fee of $70 (around ₹6,674) applies to every degree type at Kent State, including UG, graduate, MBA, and PhD. It is paid on the apply.kent.edu portal at submission.
Ques. What documents does Kent State require from Indian applicants?
Ans. Passport bio page, Class XII or Bachelor’s marksheets with certified English translation, degree certificate, official English test score report, SOP, two letters of recommendation, resume, and financial documentation for the I-20 after admission. Portfolio for Architecture and Fashion Design; GRE for MS Data Science.
Ques. Does Kent State accept Medium of Instruction (MOI) letters?
Ans. No. Kent State explicitly does not accept MOI letters as evidence of English proficiency. Indian applicants from English-medium schools still need to submit an IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, or Duolingo score, use an approved ESL pathway, or verify eligibility via the country waiver checker.
Ques. What is the acceptance rate for Indian applicants at Kent State?
Ans. Kent State’s overall institutional acceptance rate sits at around 87%. The university does not publish a separately-reported international acceptance rate, but Indian applicants who meet the Class XII 60% or Bachelor’s 65% floor with the correct English score see high offer rates.

- The most important thing i like about my University is the amazing Library. It's a 14 floor building with individual and group study rooms, great collection of books and excellent service.
- The neighborhood of the University is quite calm which is another aspect that makes me want to stay within the campus.
- The lush green trees in and around the campus which are well-maintained make it a great sight during all seasons of the year.
Dislikes
- The weather sometimes gets unpredictable and it's hard to attend classes in peak winters.
- The faculty could be improved.
- The intake of students can be filtered out by ensuring quality over quantity.
Scholarship
- I haven't received any scholarship.
- None of my batchmates have received financial aid because it's almost impossible to get one here.
- There are very less scholarships for Masters students and it's rare that an international student gets a scholarship.
- The count of students who receive a scholarship is not explicitly known because those stats are unpredictable.

- It is a public university. They have diverse international students from all over the world.
- Facilities provided to international students, which make it easy for ongoing processes and finding new things across the campus.
- Faculties here are very helpful and they try to not give much stress to the academic curriculum.
Dislikes
- Location- Kent is a small town which limits the job search within the city as compared to major cities like California, and Seattle.
- Weather- Kent is located in the north side of Ohio which experiences long winters, and as an Indian, I don't like it much.
- Parking Issues- Many students complain about the parking space as it is limited, most of the students park their vehicles near the stadium and then come by bus.
Scholarship
- No, I did not receive any scholarship from Kent State University. Some of my classmates receive scholarships, but I do not know what's the actual amount they receive for this course. On an average international students receive $2000 to $20000 scholarship based on merit-based scholarship. For Undergraduate students, they receive 80% of the scholarship from this college.

Overview
I chose overall 3 colleges for my study abroad based on my tuition fee structure, course curriculum, and duration of my master's program in the US. I got accepted in all 3 and Kent State University was one among them. I prefer moving to Kent State because of the spring session start of my master's program. I was able to start early so that’s the reason I preferred moving to Kent, Ohio for my master's program.

- The course curriculum and lab work offered as a part of the program I've chosen has been the major reason of my inclination towards this university. It provides numerous opportunities on campus for students to pursue a part time job that really helps in managing their living expenses.
- The university provides a lot of facilities in terms of transportation, recreation, medical, food, groceries etc at nominal prices. The culture here is extremely diverse and accepting. There are a lot of events held to honor different traditions and beliefs.
Dislikes
- This university does not offer scholarships of any kind. This is one thing that I dislike. I personally feel that the effort put by the university to create networking platforms with working professionals is nearly negligible.
Overview
My overall experience at Kent state university has been a very pleasant one. My stay in Kent has nurtured me into an independent individual. My spectrum of imagination and application has been broadened because of the knowledge I gained at KSU.
