University of Wisconsin, Madison Scholarships: Frequently Asked Questions

Ans. King-Morgridge is the UG ceiling, covering tuition, housing, meals, books and airfare worth about USD 72,000 (INR 68.04 Lakhs) per year. At PhD level, University Fellowship plus multi-year RA stacks to roughly USD 70,000 (INR 66.15 Lakhs) in effective support each year.

Ques. When should I apply to maximise scholarship chances at University of Wisconsin, Madison?

Ans. Apply by the earliest departmental deadline (December 15, 2026 for PG) and the UG early action deadline (November 1, 2026) for best scholarship consideration. Fellowship nominations close around mid-December each year, so a late February application almost guarantees no fellowship.

Ques. Do I need a separate application for University of Wisconsin, Madison scholarships?

Ans. Most awards activate automatically once you submit the main UG or PG application. King-Morgridge and Mercile J. Lee need a short supplementary essay through the admissions portal. Departmental fellowships depend on your dept nominating you based on your PG application file.

Ques. What GPA or test score do I need to be competitive for Wisconsin MBA scholarships?

Ans. Admitted Wisconsin MBA students average a 3.5 undergrad GPA and 690 GMAT. Indian applicants scoring 710+ GMAT with a 3.6 Indian equivalent often receive 50 percent to 100 percent tuition awards automatically. Below 650 GMAT typically means an admit without any tuition scholarship.

Ans. King-Morgridge covers full non-resident tuition worth USD 42,531 (INR 40.19 Lakhs). It adds room and board worth USD 13,500 (INR 12.76 Lakhs), books worth USD 1,200 (INR 1.13 Lakhs) and one round-trip home flight. The award renews for 4 years conditional on a 3.0 GPA and 60 service hours per semester.

Ans. Standard non-resident cost of living in Madison runs USD 25,186 (INR 23.80 Lakhs) per year including housing, food and personal expenses. King-Morgridge, University Fellowship and TA or RA stipends cover 100 percent of this amount. Merit-only tuition waivers leave the full living cost on the student.

Scholarship

  • There are no scholarships for international students to my knowledge, I dont know any people who got scholarship from the college itself, but private organization in their country sponser them and their expenses after a merit exam, like Indonesia and UAE students, not indian kids. You should come here if you can afford it or maybe take a loan. Scholarships are easy in lower level colleges in my opinion

  • For the first year, I got the on-campus dorms; mine was the Ogg residence hall (pictures attached below). It had good rooms, kitchens, study lounges, and laundry facilities.
  • It was right in front of the bus stop, gym, and dining hall.
  • Other dorms were also nearby and some a little far.
  • For years 2, 3, and 4, I am living in different apartments, which I found online and went through the application process for.
  • The housing market is expensive here and rents are soaring. People are opting for luxury residences.
  • Off-campus accommodations are within walking distance of classes.
  • For future students, I would say find a few people and live in shared rooms to save money and start research early.

Scholarship

  • Yes. But most are around $1K so are somewhat unhelpful. It may sound like a lot, but is just 1 month of rent.
  • Most scholarships require FAFSA which is only available for someone with a Social Security Number (SSN) which I didn't know at the time, but atleast you do now. So apply for an SSN ASAP.
  • There is very little financial aid at this university and public universities in general. For proper aid, look into private universities.

  • In 2019, I did not know about online portals, so university accommodation were my only bet. My advice is to find friends and live with them or look into Facebook groups. Finding a roommate is a practical necessity due to cost and honestly you might even like it.
  • Monthly rent even with roommate was around $1K. This is on the lower end in america and you should expect to pay more.
  • Accommodations are well connected to the university via buses.

Scholarship

I was employed as a Teaching Assistant throughout the duration of my Master's as a result of which my tuition fees was remitted and I received a stipend of $800 biweekly(on an average).

I chose this university because of following factors- 1. Funding in the form of a TA position 2. Opportunity to delve into an exciting field of research (AI in smart manufacturing) 3. One of the top 150 universities in the world. Overall, it is challenging at times, it was an invigorating and rewarding experience and equipped me with a diverse set of skills from AI to biomechanics.

3 LORS AND SoP were required. Skillsets directly related to field of study and reason for (if applicable) shift in field of study No I didn’t have any round of interviews. The best college out of current choices with a great program for my area The perfect college experience except for the weather which is very violent. We experience temperatures as low as -20. The crowd is good as the town is a university town and so we’re always surrounded by the people of same age group. Uni definitely has a party town reputation but it’s the best of both worlds. Connecting with people is slightly hard due to very undiluted crowds and still some racism
