Kansas State University offers 25+ scholarships and funding routes, of which 12+ are accessible to Indian applicants. The Wildcat Nonresident Award alone can waive USD 17,694 (INR 16.89 Lakhs) yearly.
Undergraduate Indian applicants qualify automatically for tiered merit awards. Graduate applicants secure funding almost entirely through departmental assistantships carrying a tuition waiver plus stipend.
Currency Note: All INR conversions use the live rate of 1 USD = INR 95.45 as of August 2026. Amounts round to two decimals. "Non-resident tuition" is the higher rate international students pay compared to Kansas residents.

Kansas State University Scholarships for UG Students
K-State runs two parallel undergraduate merit programs for Indian applicants. The Wildcat Nonresident Award waives part of the non-resident tuition surcharge. The International Merit family (Distinction, Achievement, Merit) adds a flat cash award on top.
| Scholarship | Award Amount (per year) | Eligibility (GPA on 4.0) | Renewal | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wildcat Nonresident Award (Freshman, top tier) | USD 17,694 (INR 16.89 Lakhs) as 100% non-resident waiver | 3.90+ cumulative | Up to 3 additional years at K-State GPA 3.0 | Rolling with admission; tentative April 1, 2027 upgrade cut-off |
| Wildcat Nonresident Award (Freshman, tier 2) | USD 14,155 (INR 13.51 Lakhs), 80% waiver | 3.75 to 3.89 | Up to 3 additional years | Rolling with admission |
| Wildcat Nonresident Award (Freshman, tier 3) | USD 10,616 (INR 10.13 Lakhs), 60% waiver | 3.50 to 3.74 | Up to 3 additional years | Rolling with admission |
| Wildcat Nonresident Award (Freshman, tier 4) | USD 8,847 (INR 8.44 Lakhs), 50% waiver | 3.25 to 3.49 | Up to 3 additional years | Rolling with admission |
| Wildcat Nonresident Award (Transfer, top tier) | USD 17,694 (INR 16.89 Lakhs), 100% waiver | 3.90+ cumulative transfer GPA | Up to 2 additional years | Rolling with admission |
| International Distinction Award | USD 6,000 (INR 5.73 Lakhs) | Freshman with 3.50 to 3.74 | 3 additional years at GPA 3.0; USD 24,000 total (INR 22.91 Lakhs) | Automatic with admission by tentative May 1, 2027 |
| International Achievement Award | USD 4,000 (INR 3.82 Lakhs) | Freshman with 3.20 to 3.49 | 3 additional years; USD 16,000 total (INR 15.27 Lakhs) | Automatic with admission |
| International Merit Award | USD 2,000 (INR 1.91 Lakhs) | Freshman with 3.10 to 3.19 | 3 additional years; USD 8,000 total (INR 7.64 Lakhs) | Automatic with admission |
| Philip and Jeune Kirmser International Student Scholarship | Variable amount, financial-need based | Non-resident international UG with documented need | Non-renewable, reapply yearly | Tentative March 17, 2027 |
The Wildcat Nonresident Award needs no separate form. K-State computes eligibility from the sixth-semester cumulative GPA on the admission transcript. Indian CBSE, ISC, and state-board students convert their Class 12 aggregate using the K-State worksheet.
The three Merit-family awards apply automatically to any admitted freshman meeting the GPA band. They also stack with the Wildcat waiver. A student in the 3.50 to 3.74 band gets USD 16,616 (INR 15.86 Lakhs) waived in year one.
Reddit Insight: Indian CBSE applicants with a 92% aggregate typically convert to roughly 3.7 on the 4.0 scale. That lands them in the 60% Wildcat plus Distinction stack, saving about INR 15.86 Lakhs off first-year tuition.

Kansas State University Scholarships for PG / Master’s Students
Postgraduate funding at K-State runs mostly through Graduate Teaching and Research Assistantships. Departments allocate these at admission. Merit scholarships are secondary and modest.
| Award | Value (per year) | Eligibility | Coverage | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Graduate Teaching Assistantship (GTA) | Departmental stipend plus tuition remission for 10 credit hours fall and spring, 6 credit hours summer | 0.5 FTE (20 hours per week); TOEFL speaking 22 or IELTS speaking 7 for non-native speakers | Full tuition remission plus non-resident waiver plus health insurance | Rolling; tentative January 15, 2027 for Fall 2027 admits |
| Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA) | Departmental stipend | 0.4 FTE minimum from advisor’s grant | Non-resident tuition waiver plus health insurance at 0.5 FTE | Rolling with department admission |
| Graduate Assistantship (GA) | Departmental stipend | 0.4 FTE across academic and service units | Non-resident tuition waiver | Tentative February 15, 2027 |
| K-State Alumni Association International Student Scholarship | USD 1,000 (INR 0.95 Lakhs) | Current international grad or UG with documented leadership on international programming | One-time; disbursed at Fall semester start | Tentative March 17, 2027 at 11:59 pm CT |
| Office of International Programs (OIP) Scholarship | Variable amount | One outstanding continuing international student per year; minimum one semester at K-State | One-time; awarded each Fall | Tentative March 17, 2027 |
| International Student Center Scholarship | Variable amount (8 awards annually) | All international students, priority to underrepresented groups | One-time | Tentative March 17, 2027 |
| M&H International Scholarship (Hwachii Lien) | Variable amount | UG or grad international in any curriculum, including English Language Program | One-time | Tentative March 17, 2027 |
| William L. Richter International Scholarship | Variable amount | International students showing financial need and academic potential | One-time | Tentative March 17, 2027 |
The GTA route is the single most useful funding channel for Indian Master’s applicants. A full 0.5 FTE appointment covers tuition remission for 10 credits per semester. It waives the non-resident surcharge, adds health insurance, and pays a departmental stipend.
Engineering and CS departments typically fund more GTA slots than humanities. English proficiency is the gating requirement for teaching roles. Indian applicants need TOEFL iBT speaking 22 or IELTS speaking band 7 to hold a GTA.
Reddit Insight: Indian MS admits report that GRA offers attach to a specific faculty grant. Emailing 4 to 6 professors with a targeted CV raises the funding probability more than any general scholarship form.

India-Specific Scholarships at Kansas State University
K-State runs no scholarship named exclusively for Indian nationals. Indian applicants instead route external India-side awards toward their K-State bill. These awards pay tuition directly or transfer to the student account.
| Scholarship | Value | Eligibility | Level | Deadline (2027 cycle) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fulbright-Nehru Master’s Fellowship | Full tuition and fees, return air travel, monthly stipend, health cover; typical value USD 45,000 to USD 55,000 (INR 42.95 to 52.50 Lakhs) per year | Indian citizen; 4-year bachelor’s with 55% aggregate; 3+ years relevant work experience; not a government of India employee | Master’s (2 years) | Tentative mid-May 2027 (annual USIEF cycle) |
| Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation Scholarship | Up to USD 120,000 (INR 114.54 Lakhs) total, covers tuition, living, one-way travel, visa, health | Indian citizen resident in India; under 30 for Master’s (under 35 for PhD); prior admission letter mandatory; strong academic record | Master’s, MPhil, PhD | Tentative March 31, 2027 at 12:00 pm IST |
| MPower Financing Global Citizen Scholarship | Up to USD 8,000 (INR 7.64 Lakhs) | Full-time degree program at MPower-supported US schools including K-State; open to Indian applicants | UG and PG | Rolling; tentative August 31, 2026 (fall round) and January 31, 2027 (spring round) |
| East-West Center Graduate Degree Fellowship | Tuition support, housing, health insurance, monthly stipend; recipients complete degree at partner university including K-State | Citizen of South Asia including India; graduate applicant | Master’s and PhD | Tentative November 1, 2026 for Fall 2027 |

| JN Tata Endowment Loan Scholarship | INR 1 Lakh to 10 Lakhs (loan-scholarship), plus gift grant up to INR 7.5 Lakhs | Indian citizen with strong academics for PG abroad | PG | Tentative late-March 2027 |
The Fulbright-Nehru Master’s Fellowship is the most valuable single award an Indian K-State applicant can hold. It pays the entire tuition and fees for the two-year Master’s programme and adds a living stipend. USIEF handles the pre-selection cycle in India.
Inlaks and JN Tata Endowment are non-institutional, so they layer freely with any K-State assistantship or Wildcat waiver. A GRA-funded Indian PhD holder can use the JN Tata grant to cover moving costs, GRE retakes, and initial rent.

Kansas State University PhD Scholarships
Doctoral funding at K-State runs almost entirely through multi-year assistantship packages tied to a faculty adviser. Indian PhD applicants should treat departmental outreach as the primary scholarship channel.
| Award | Value | Coverage | Duration | Application |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Doctoral GRA (department-funded) | Department-set stipend, typically USD 22,000 to USD 30,000 (INR 21.00 to 28.63 Lakhs) per year across engineering and sciences | Full tuition support, non-resident waiver, health insurance | Renewable annually for 4 to 5 years subject to good standing and adviser funding | Attached to admission; direct email to prospective adviser recommended |
| Doctoral GTA | Similar to GRA; department-set stipend | Tuition remission for up to 10 credit hours per semester plus non-resident waiver | Renewable; TOEFL speaking 22 or IELTS speaking 7 required | Rolling; tentative January 15, 2027 |
| University Distinguished Graduate Fellowship | Top-up stipend on existing assistantship | Additional stipend supplement, no separate tuition benefit | Typically first two doctoral years | Nominated by department; internal deadline tentative December 15, 2026 |
| Timothy R. Donoghue Graduate Scholarship | Variable competitive amount | One-time award on top of assistantship | One year | Nominated by department in Spring 2027 |
| Environmental Research and Education Foundation (external) | Variable amount | Doctoral or postdoctoral environmental research support | Duration of project | Tentative August 1, 2027 |

The Doctoral GRA is the standard funding path. Faculty in Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, and Agricultural Sciences hold external grants supporting Indian PhD candidates for the full programme duration. Fit with the adviser’s active grant matters more than the general graduate application.
Indian PhD candidates should send targeted outreach emails 3 to 4 months before the tentative January 15, 2027 application deadline. A useful outreach email to a K-State professor includes these elements:

External Government Scholarships
External government and foundation awards give Indian K-State applicants a second income stream on top of any institutional aid. Six US-side and multilateral options accept Indian applicants for study at K-State.
| Scholarship | Value (per year) | Eligibility | Level | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fulbright Foreign Student Program (US-side) | Full tuition, monthly stipend, travel, health cover | Non-US citizen with strong academics and leadership; applied via USIEF in India | Master’s and PhD | Tentative mid-May 2027 |
| MPower Financing Global Citizen Scholarship | Up to USD 8,000 (INR 7.64 Lakhs) | Enrolled at MPower-supported school including K-State | UG and PG | Tentative August 31, 2026 and January 31, 2027 |
| LewerMark "Make Your Mark" Scholarship | USD 3,000 (INR 2.86 Lakhs); 7 awards | International students in the US | UG and PG | November 30, 2026 |

| World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) | Full tuition, stipend, travel, insurance | National of a World Bank member developing country including India; 3+ years development-relevant work experience | PG in development-related fields | Tentative March 2027 |
MPower has the highest hit rate for Indian K-State applicants because K-State sits on its supported-schools list. The application is short. November-round decisions arrive quickly enough to inform the January enrolment deposit.
Women applicants in engineering and CS have three parallel stacking routes. Amelia Earhart suits aerospace subfields. AAUW International covers any graduate field. P.E.O. International Peace acts as a general merit award, and all three accept Indian nationals.

Kansas State University Scholarships: Frequently Asked Questions
Ques. What is the maximum scholarship stack an Indian student can hold at Kansas State University?
Ans. An Indian PhD on a full Doctoral GRA receives tuition remission worth USD 31,845 (INR 30.40 Lakhs). Add the non-resident waiver, health insurance, and a USD 22,000 to 30,000 stipend. Layered with a JN Tata Endowment gift grant of INR 7.5 Lakhs, the total value crosses INR 60 Lakhs annually. At undergrad level, a 3.50 to 3.74 GPA applicant stacks the 60% Wildcat waiver with the Distinction Award. That covers USD 16,616 (INR 15.86 Lakhs) per year.
Ques. When should Indian applicants apply for Kansas State University scholarships to align with Fall 2027 intake?
Ans. Submit the K-State admission application by tentative December 1, 2026. That triggers automatic Wildcat Nonresident and International Merit-family award processing. File the K-State Scholarship Network (KSN) form by tentative March 17, 2027 for the seven ISSS scholarships. External India-side awards close earlier: Inlaks by tentative March 31, 2027 and Fulbright-Nehru by tentative mid-May 2027.
Ques. Do Kansas State University merit scholarships need a separate application from the admission form?
Ans. No, the Wildcat Nonresident Award and the Distinction, Achievement, and Merit Awards apply automatically once K-State admits the international freshman. The system uses the sixth-semester cumulative GPA from the admission transcript. Only the ISSS-managed scholarships (Kirmser, Richter, M&H, Alumni Association, OIP, ISC) need the separate KSN application by tentative March 17, 2027.
Ques. What is the minimum GPA an Indian undergraduate needs for the Wildcat Nonresident Award at Kansas State University?
Ans. The minimum is 3.25 on the 4.0 scale. That unlocks the 50% waiver worth USD 8,847 (INR 8.44 Lakhs). Indian CBSE students converting a Class 12 aggregate of 75% or above reach this floor. For the full 100% waiver worth USD 17,694 (INR 16.89 Lakhs), applicants need 3.90+ on 4.0, equivalent to about 95% CBSE aggregate. K-State accepts self-reported GPA with an unofficial transcript at application time.
Ques. How much do Kansas State University Graduate Teaching Assistantships pay Indian Master’s students?
Ans. A 0.5 FTE GTA carries tuition remission for 10 credit hours per fall and spring semester. It also includes a non-resident tuition waiver, health insurance, and a departmental stipend. Engineering and sciences report stipends of USD 18,000 to USD 24,000 (INR 17.18 to 22.91 Lakhs) yearly in publicly filed data. Indian applicants need TOEFL iBT speaking 22 or IELTS speaking band 7 to hold a GTA.
Ques. Does the K-State Alumni Association International Student Scholarship cover living costs in Manhattan, Kansas?
Ans. No, it does not. The award is USD 1,000 (INR 0.95 Lakhs), disbursed once at the start of the Fall semester. K-State estimates annual living expenses for international students at USD 15,872 (INR 15.15 Lakhs) on the Manhattan campus. The Alumni Association award covers about 6% of that living cost. It functions as a leadership recognition award rather than a full-cost stipend.
Ques. Can Indian PhD applicants at Kansas State University hold Fulbright-Nehru and a Doctoral GRA at the same time?
Ans. Yes, in most cases. The Fulbright-Nehru pays tuition and stipend directly. K-State applies any remaining GRA-linked benefits toward research support, conference travel, and top-up health insurance. Applicants must inform both USIEF and the K-State Graduate School about the dual funding source at acceptance. Some departments reduce the GRA stipend by the Fulbright stipend amount, so verify the arrangement with the programme coordinator first.

Instate tuition, Kansas State is close to home. My experience got better as time went on and I'm happy I came here.
Good scholarships and great town! I get to be close to my family, and get a good education. I am also an athlete so I chose this team and coach because it seemed like a good fit for me. The town is a great place to be in college, not too big or small.
I chose Kansas State University because of its Textiles and Apparel Marketing program. I wanted to have a reputable degree upon graduating that employers would see and immediately want to hire me or be impressed.
