University of Wisconsin-Platteville Admission 2027

University of Wisconsin-Platteville runs two international intakes each year, and the Fall (August start) cycle is the primary intake most Indian applicants target for the wider course choice and better scholarship timing.

Planning note: The single April 30 deadline for Fall entry is unusually late for a U.S. public university, which gives Indian applicants time to write their English test and complete WES evaluation after their Class 12 or bachelor’s results, but leaves only three to four months for F-1 visa processing before September classes.

University of Wisconsin-Platteville Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

Indian applicants must submit academic transcripts in the original language with certified English translations, along with English proficiency evidence and financial documentation for the I-20 form.

Postgraduate Requirements

  • Academic: Bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 2.75 out of 4.00, equivalent to roughly 55% or CGPA 5.5/10; a 3.00 GPA (60% or CGPA 6.0/10) is required for Applied Biotechnology, Cybersecurity and Healthcare Administration.
  • English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 80 (R20/L20/S18/W22), TOEFL Paper-based 550 or IELTS band 6.5 with 6.0 in each sub-score.
  • Credential verification: Not always required for master’s applicants but recommended for transfer credit; contact ISSS if you completed courses outside India.
  • Standardised tests: No GRE or GMAT is required for any master’s programme.

Undergraduate Requirements

  • Academic: Class 12 completion with strong marks in mathematics, natural sciences and humanities; recommended Class 12 aggregate of 65% or higher for competitive majors like engineering and computer science.
  • English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 64 (R15/L15/S17/W17), IELTS 5.5 (all sub-scores 5.0), PTE 46, Duolingo 95 or SAT EBRW 480.

Key insight: Applicants with three or more years of English-medium instruction on their Indian transcripts can request an English test waiver at the point of application; this route is faster than sitting IELTS for an April 30 deadline.

University of Wisconsin-Platteville Acceptance Rate 2027

University of Wisconsin-Platteville reports an 85% acceptance rate for the most recent admissions cycle, placing it firmly in the accessible tier of U.S. public universities. This figure is officially published and reflects freshmen and transfer applicants across all majors.

YearAcceptance RateTrend
202585%Stable
202489%Slight tightening

[Source: University of Wisconsin-Platteville and U.S. News Best Colleges 2026]

Competitive majors like mechanical engineering and computer science apply internal admission thresholds after freshman year, so a general offer does not guarantee a place in every programme. Indian applicants with the recommended English test score and a clean academic record can plan on strong odds of a direct offer.

Reality check: A high acceptance rate is not a low bar for Indian applicants. Meeting TOEFL 64 (UG) or 80 (PG) and completing WES for graduate transfer credit still filters out roughly one in seven international candidates each cycle.

University of Wisconsin-Platteville Campus, Facilities and Student Life

The main Platteville campus sits in a small college town in Grant County, southwest Wisconsin, roughly a 90-minute drive from Madison and Dubuque, Iowa.

  • Location and transport: The 820-acre main campus is walkable end-to-end; the university runs a shuttle to Madison and Dubuque airports before each intake.
  • Housing: On-campus housing at USD 8,905 per academic year for a double room with meal plan; international students are guaranteed a housing offer if they apply by the deadline.
  • Facilities: Ottensman Hall houses the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Science labs, and the Pioneer Farm gives agricultural sciences students a 430-acre teaching farm.
  • Indian community: An active International Club and departmental student groups host Diwali, Holi and cricket meets each year.
  • Academic support: A 20:1 student-faculty ratio and free tutoring through the Academic Support Center.

What Indian students say: The small-town setting means lower rent and faster access to professors than a big-city campus. Indian students consistently rate the engineering faculty and lab access highly, and note that a car or ride-share group is useful for weekend trips to Madison for Indian groceries and community events.

University of Wisconsin-Platteville Rankings 2026

University of Wisconsin-Platteville is ranked #49 in Regional Universities Midwest by U.S. News Best Colleges 2026, up 11 spots from the prior year’s #60. The university does not appear in the QS World, Times Higher Education World or ARWU global lists, which is typical of U.S. regional public universities.

As per U.S. News, the university’s climb from #60 to #49 is the largest single-year jump among Wisconsin publics in 2026, driven by improved graduation rates and per-student instructional spending. It is also ranked #12 in Top Public Schools Midwest and its online programmes appear in ten separate U.S. News Best Online Programs categories.

Key insight: For Indian applicants comparing options, a U.S. News regional rank matters less for F-1 visa approval than for U.S. employer recognition after graduation. Recruiters in Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois know UW-Platteville’s engineering and cybersecurity programmes well, so the regional rank is useful for local employment but does not travel far internationally.

University of Wisconsin-Platteville Placements and Career Outcomes 2027

University of Wisconsin-Platteville reports strong first-destination outcomes, with an 87% employment or graduate-school placement rate within six months of graduation and an average starting salary of USD 57,436 (INR 54.28 lakh).

  • Placement rate: 87% employed or in graduate study within six months of graduation (self-reported)
  • Average starting salary: USD 57,436 (INR 54.28 lakh) across all majors; engineering and computer science graduates trend above this figure
  • Recruiting sectors: Regional manufacturing, agricultural technology, civil and mechanical engineering firms, healthcare administration and municipal criminal-justice agencies dominate the recruiting mix
  • Career support: The Career and Professional Development office runs on-campus recruitment events each semester and a dedicated employer database for engineering internships
  • Post-study work: Indian graduates qualify for 12-month OPT; STEM majors extend to a total 36 months on the OPT STEM Extension

Insider note: Placement figures are strongest for on-campus engineering graduates who secure summer internships in Wisconsin or Iowa; online master’s students should plan their own job search since the recruiter pipeline is heavily campus-driven.

University of Wisconsin-Platteville vs Peer Universities

The peer set below covers other Universities of Wisconsin campuses at a similar regional-midwest tier, all comparable in size, tuition and Indian-applicant volume.

[Source: U.S. News Best Colleges 2026]

Against these peers, University of Wisconsin-Platteville stands out on two counts: its 11-spot regional rank climb in the latest U.S. News edition, and the lowest published non-resident tuition among the three campuses with 2026-27 data. It suits Indian applicants who want a hands-on engineering or agricultural technology track at a small-town price.

University of Wisconsin-Platteville is a fit for the cost-conscious Indian applicant who wants a U.S. undergraduate or master’s degree in applied engineering, cybersecurity or business at total tuition of USD 18,892 a year (INR 17.85 lakh), backed by an average starting salary of USD 57,436 (INR 54.28 lakh) and a 36-month STEM OPT pathway after graduation.

It is not the right pick for applicants chasing global brand recognition, Ivy-tier research funding or a big-city campus experience. If that is the priority, a top-30 U.S. News national university or a Wisconsin flagship like Madison will serve better, and Purdue or Iowa State remain the standard cross-state STEM alternatives at a similar cost band.

University of Wisconsin-Platteville FAQs

Ques. Does UW-Platteville require GRE or GMAT for its master’s programmes?

Ans. No. University of Wisconsin-Platteville does not require GRE or GMAT for any master’s programme, including M.S. Engineering, M.S. Cybersecurity, M.S. Overview

I opted for this college because of the smaller class sizes and because it was so close to family. I think the smaller size allows for more comfortability and inclusion. The rural area is nice as well.

Fees

The major upside to fees at UW-PLATTEVILLE is that they are minimal. Most things are included in tuition. At most colleges you pay for your books at the beginning of the year, at platteville, they are rented out and returned at the end of the semester.
