Out-of-country tuition waivers can move eligible international students to the in-state fee band, and merit awards worth up to USD 13,000 per year cut the sticker cost sharply. Applicants planning September entry should build in eight to twelve weeks for the F-1 visa and I-20 timeline.

Exchange rate used: 1 USD = INR 95.75 as of August 2026

Admission Status: Open (Spring 2027 intake). The full-term application deadline for Spring 2027 (January start) is 1 December 2026, with graduate deadlines varying by programme. The next cycle, for Fall 2027 (August entry), is expected to open with a priority deadline of 1 April 2027 and a full-term close of 1 August 2027, mirroring the prior cycle. Indian applicants should begin credential evaluation and English testing at least 10 weeks ahead of the target deadline.

Georgia Southern University Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

The Georgia Southern admission requirements are structured for a holistic review, with academic transcripts and English test scores as the load-bearing inputs for Indian applicants.

PG Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree: 4-year Indian bachelor’s with 55% to 60% or CGPA 5.5 to 6.0 on a 10-point scale (recommended); some engineering programmes prefer 65%
  • English test: TOEFL iBT 75 or IELTS 6.0 (verified from official page)
  • Credential evaluation: Course-by-course report from a NACES-accredited service, most commonly WES
  • Additional: Two academic references and a statement of purpose; GRE waived for most programmes except select STEM tracks

UG Requirements

  • Class 12: CBSE, ICSE or State Board with 65% to 85% depending on programme (recommended); nursing and engineering set the higher band
  • English test: TOEFL iBT 69, IELTS 6.0, SAT EBRW 480 or ACT English 17
  • Credential evaluation: Not always mandatory for UG, but recommended for smoother transfer of credit

Key insight: Indian applicants from an English-medium school with a UGC-recognised bachelor’s degree can often request an IELTS waiver from the Office of International Student Admissions after review of transcripts.

Georgia Southern University Acceptance Rate 2027

Georgia Southern University reports an overall acceptance rate of 88% (estimated) for undergraduate freshman admission, placing it in the least-selective tier of US public universities. The university does not publish separate international-applicant acceptance rates, so the figure reflects all applicants.

YearAcceptance RateTrend
202688% (estimated)Stable
202586% (estimated)Slight rise
202484% (estimated)Base year

Graduate programme selectivity is programme-specific, with Parker College MBA and Waters College Nursing running tighter cohorts. As per US News, Georgia Southern is classified as a moderately selective public university.

Reality check: A high acceptance rate does not mean an automatic yes for Indian applicants. Under-target GPA or English scores still trigger denials, so treat the 88% as a floor, not a guarantee.

Georgia Southern University Campus, Facilities and Student Life

Georgia Southern University spreads across three campuses: the flagship Statesboro campus (900 acres, 60 minutes northwest of Savannah), the Armstrong campus in Savannah, and the Liberty campus in Hinesville.

  • Location and transport: Statesboro is a town of 30,000 residents; the closest airport is Savannah/Hilton Head (SAV), 90 minutes east, with Atlanta (ATL) four hours west
  • Housing: On-campus rooms guaranteed for first-year students; roughly 25% of undergraduates live on campus, the rest in off-campus apartments within 3 km of Statesboro
  • Notable facilities: Henderson Library with 1.1 million volumes, the RAC recreation complex, and Paulson Stadium (home of the Eagles football team)
  • Indian student community: Indian Student Association (ISA) runs Diwali, Holi and Independence Day events, plus mentoring for incoming freshers

What Indian students say: Statesboro is a low-cost, low-crime college town with plenty of academic bandwidth, though social life leans campus-centric because the city itself is small. Weekend Savannah trips are the standard reset.

THE Subject Rankings 2024 place Georgia Southern in Computer Science at #601-800 globally and Engineering at #801-1000, both within the second research quartile in the USA.

Key insight: Georgia Southern’s US News regional-tier standing keeps it comfortably inside F-1 visa eligibility and STEM OPT eligibility, which is the ranking floor most Indian applicants actually need for post-study work.

Georgia Southern University Placements and Career Outcomes 2027

Georgia Southern University reports strong employment outcomes for its bachelor’s and master’s graduates, anchored by regional employers in Georgia and the wider US Southeast.

  • Employment within two years: 93%
  • Average starting salary (all graduates): USD 47,600/year (INR 45.6 lakh)
  • MBA median salary: USD 65,000/year (INR 62.2 lakh, market median)
  • Top sectors: Information technology, healthcare, engineering services, logistics, public administration
  • Career support: Office of Career and Professional Development runs employer expos each semester; STEM OPT extension for up to 36 months of post-study work in the US

Insider note: Indian STEM graduates typically stack the 12-month OPT with a 24-month STEM extension, giving three years to secure a cap-exempt or H-1B sponsor, most often in Atlanta or Charlotte tech corridors.

Georgia Southern University vs Peer Universities

Peer set below is drawn from public research universities in the USA Southeast with a comparable Collegedunia Study Abroad tier, plus one cross-country comparison against a mid-Atlantic public.

UniversityCollegedunia Study AbroadAvg Annual PG Fee (USD)Avg Annual PG Fee (INR lakh)Differentiator
Georgia Southern University#29329,23228.0 lakhLowest sticker fee in the peer set; STEM OPT eligible

University of North Carolina Charlotte#204 (estimated)28,700 (estimated)27.5 lakhLarger MS CS cohort, tighter admissions

Georgia Southern stands out on tuition value at the master’s level while keeping employer access to Savannah’s logistics cluster and Atlanta’s corporate corridor within a four-hour drive. As per Collegedunia Study Abroad rankings, it sits above two of the four regional peers listed here.

Georgia Southern University fits the Indian applicant who wants a full US master’s or bachelor’s at a total investment of INR 43 lakh to INR 51 lakh a year and a realistic path to a USD 47,600 starting salary, translating to an ROI horizon of five to seven years. Its strongest Indian-specific advantage is a lower sticker fee among STEM OPT-eligible F-1 visa universities in the Southeast.

It is not the pick for applicants targeting Ivy-tier brand recognition or top-50 QS placement in a specific engineering subject, where a peer like the University of North Carolina Charlotte or Georgia State University may serve better.

Georgia Southern University FAQs

Ques. What English tests does Georgia Southern accept for Indian applicants?

Ans. Georgia Southern University accepts TOEFL iBT with a graduate minimum of 75 and undergraduate minimum of 69, along with IELTS 6.0 for all levels. The paper-based TOEFL alternative sits at 537. PTE and Duolingo are not listed on the official international admissions page, so Indian applicants should default to TOEFL or IELTS. Score reports must be no more than two years old at the point of application.

Ques. Can Indian applicants get an IELTS waiver at Georgia Southern?

Ans. Indian applicants who have completed a degree from an accredited US, UK, Canadian (non-Quebec), Australian or New Zealand institution automatically qualify for a waiver. Applicants with an English-medium Indian bachelor’s from a UGC-recognised university can also request a discretionary waiver from the Office of International Student Admissions after transcript review. Applying for a waiver early avoids retaking the test unnecessarily.

Ques. How much is the Georgia Southern application fee for Indian students?

Ans. The non-refundable application fee is USD 30 (INR 2,873) for international applicants. It applies to undergraduate and graduate applications alike and must be paid online at submission. The fee is not waived for Indian applicants, though a fee waiver is available in select community-partner cases. Applications are not reviewed until the fee clears.

Ques. Which Indian banks offer education loans for Georgia Southern?

Ans. Georgia Southern University is a US-accredited public institution, so it qualifies for standard Indian education-loan products from HDFC Credila, Avanse, Auxilo, ICICI Bank, SBI and Axis Bank. Loan sanctions typically cover tuition plus USD 15,000 of living costs. Public-sector banks may require collateral above INR 20 lakh; NBFCs offer collateral-free products up to that level.

Ques. Does Georgia Southern require GRE or GMAT for graduate admission?

Ans. Most Georgia Southern graduate programmes have moved to GRE-optional or GRE-waived policies, including the MS Computer Science and Parker College MBA. Select engineering and quantitative science programmes still recommend a GRE score for competitive review. Indian applicants without a GRE score can strengthen the application with a stronger statement of purpose and academic references.

Ques. How long can Indian STEM graduates stay in the US after Georgia Southern?

Ans. STEM-designated graduates at Georgia Southern qualify for the 12-month Optional Practical Training window, extendable by 24 months as the STEM OPT extension. That gives a total of 36 months of post-study work authorisation on the F-1 visa. During this window graduates typically apply for the H-1B cap lottery each March through their sponsoring employer.

Ques. Are there part-time on-campus jobs for Indian students at Georgia Southern?

Ans. F-1 international students can work up to 20 hours a week on campus during the semester and 40 hours during breaks. Georgia Southern jobs board (Handshake) lists library, research, dining and residence-life roles paying USD 10 to USD 15 an hour. Graduate assistantships pay higher stipends with a tuition waiver, but are programme-nominated rather than open-application.

Ques. What documents does Georgia Southern require for the F-1 visa I-20?

Ans. After the offer letter, Georgia Southern requests a certified financial statement covering one full academic year (USD 45,000 to USD 53,000), a copy of the passport bio page, and any dependent details for F-2 issuance. The Office of International Student Admissions then issues the I-20, which the student uses to book the SEVIS payment and F-1 visa interview at a US consulate in India.

They have a great tuition value with the mindset that genius is common. They have multiple campus options that allow for a fairly flexible schedule. The class sizes are small so you really get to know your professors.
