Clark University Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

Clark University assesses Indian graduate applicants on academic record, English proficiency, and one supporting essay, with GRE and GMAT waived for most master’s programs.

  • Bachelor’s degree: Three-year or four-year Indian bachelor’s with 60% aggregate or CGPA 6.0/10 (recommended); competitive applicants typically hold 65% or CGPA 6.5/10
  • English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 85 overall (no sub-score below 20), IELTS 6.5 overall (no band below 6), PTE Academic 71 overall (no sub-score below 65), or Duolingo 120 (sub-score minimum 100)
  • Credential verification: WES or MyIEE course-by-course evaluation of the Indian transcript
  • Standardised tests: GRE/GMAT waived for MBA applicants with a 3.2/4.0 (or equivalent 65%) GPA; other master’s programs are test-optional

Applicants who fall slightly short of the English minimum can enter the Graduate Pathway Program at the American Language and Culture Institute, which accepts TOEFL iBT 75-84, IELTS 6.0, and Duolingo 105-119. The Pathway route conditionally admits students into their target master’s after one or two semesters of language support at Clark University.

Key insight: Clark University’s TOEFL sub-score requirement of 20 in every section is stricter than the overall 85 number suggests, so Indian applicants who score 90+ overall but land a 19 in Speaking are routed to the Graduate Pathway Program at Clark University rather than directly admitted.

Clark University Acceptance Rate 2027

Clark University does not publish a consolidated acceptance rate on its official site, but third-party admissions data places the overall admit rate at 41% (estimated) for the 2026 cycle across undergraduate and graduate applicants. The rate has held in the 40-55% band for several years, positioning Clark as moderately selective rather than highly competitive.

YearAcceptance RateTrend
202641% (estimated)Slight tightening from prior year
202550% (estimated)Stable

Graduate admission rates for individual Clark University master’s programs are typically higher than the university-wide figure, since applicants are self-selected against clear GPA and English cutoffs.

Reality check: A 41% admit rate at Clark University means an Indian applicant with a 65% Indian bachelor’s, an IELTS score of 6.5, and one strong recommendation letter has a realistic offer chance, but the same profile would sit below the shortlist at a QS top-100 US private university.

Clark University Campus, Facilities and Student Life

Clark University sits on an 82-acre urban campus in the Main South neighbourhood of Worcester, Massachusetts, one hour by train from Boston and three hours from New York.

  • Location and transport: The campus is served by the Worcester Regional Transit Authority (WRTA) and is 15 minutes’ walk from Worcester Union Station, which runs the MBTA commuter line to Boston in 90 minutes
  • Housing: First-year housing is guaranteed for undergraduates; graduate students find shared apartments within a 10-minute walk of the campus for USD 800 to USD 1,000 per person (INR 76,600 to 95,750) per month
  • Facilities: Robert H. Goddard Library, the Higgins University Center, a dedicated Innovation and Entrepreneurship Hub, and the Kneller Athletic Center with a 25-metre pool are the most-used spaces
  • Indian student community: Around 800 students from India study across levels at Clark University, and the Indian Students Association (ISA) runs Diwali, Holi, and Independence Day events on campus every year

What Indian students say: Recent Indian master’s students describe the Worcester winter as the biggest early adjustment, note that most professors are approachable outside class hours, and flag the WRTA bus pass as a low-cost way to reach the Indian grocery store cluster in Shrewsbury.

Planning note: The 15% merit scholarship at Clark University is close to automatic for any admitted Indian applicant, but the 30% school-awarded tier depends on program-level nominations, so applying by the 1 October priority deadline meaningfully raises the odds of the larger award.

Clark University Rankings 2027

Clark also holds subject positions at #251-300 in THE Psychology 2026 and #201-300 in the ARWU Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2025 for Economics, both of which strengthen the case for MA International Development and MS Marketing Analytics applicants from India.

Key insight: The US News Best Value rank of #37 is the most useful number for Indian applicants because it prices institutional scholarships into the ranking, whereas the QS band of 951-1000 understates Clark University’s actual outcomes and financial support for international students.

Clark University Placements and Career Outcomes 2027

Clark University does not publish a consolidated placement rate for graduate programs, but reported employment outcomes from the career services office and STEM OPT policy give Indian students a reasonable planning baseline.

  • Employment support: The ClarkCONNECT platform and School of Business career services run recruiting for analytics, consulting, finance, and product roles across New England employers
  • Median starting salary (MBA): USD 65,000 to 80,000 (INR 62.24 lakh to 76.60 lakh) as market median for Clark’s peer tier; Clark does not disclose the internal median
  • Median starting salary (MS Analytics): USD 60,000 to 75,000 (INR 57.45 lakh to 71.81 lakh) as market median for the New England master’s cohort
  • Post-study work: 12 months of Optional Practical Training (OPT) for all F-1 graduates; STEM-designated MS programs (Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Information Technology) qualify for a 24-month STEM OPT extension, giving up to 36 months of legal work
  • Recruiting sectors: Financial services, healthcare analytics, insurance, and consulting are the most-common sectors for Clark alumni from India; specific recruiter lists are not officially disclosed

Insider note: Indian STEM MS graduates from Clark University benefit most from proximity to the Boston biotech and Hartford insurance corridors, both within a two-hour drive, and the 36-month STEM OPT window is the single strongest reason to pick the MS in Data Analytics over the MA International Development.

Clark University vs Peer Universities

Clark University is best benchmarked against mid-tier private research universities in Massachusetts and neighbouring states, comparing on fees, positioning, and post-study work potential.

UniversityQS World 2027Avg Annual PG Fee (USD / INR lakh)One-line differentiator
Clark University#951-1000USD 50,000 (INR 47.88 lakh)Best Value 2026 ranking with 15-50% automatic merit scholarships

University of Massachusetts AmherstVerify at QS 2027USD 35,000 (INR 33.51 lakh) market medianPublic research university with lower STEM MS tuition

Clark University stands out on the effective cost line after merit scholarships, with the 50% in-person MBA award pulling total tuition below the market median of Northeastern and Boston University. It is not the right pick for Indian applicants who prioritise QS brand recognition over post-scholarship cost or the New England small-campus experience.

Clark University fits the profile of an Indian applicant with a 60-70% bachelor’s, IELTS 6.5, and a clear analytics or business master’s target who wants to keep total investment at USD 75,000 to 85,000 (INR 71.81 lakh to 81.39 lakh) against a realistic post-STEM-OPT median salary of USD 70,000 (INR 67.03 lakh). The 24-month STEM OPT extension on the MS in Data Analytics and Business Analytics is the single strongest Indian-specific advantage at Clark and pairs well with the MS pathway in USA planning route.

Clark University is not the right fit for applicants chasing a QS top-100 brand or MBA graduates targeting bulge-bracket investment banking, where Northeastern’s co-op model or the higher-ranked Ivy-adjacent private universities in the Northeast are more direct routes.

Clark University FAQs

Ques. What is the acceptance rate at Clark University for Indian applicants?

Ans. Clark University’s overall acceptance rate is estimated at 41% for the 2026 cycle, and Indian applicants with a bachelor’s above 65% and IELTS 6.5 sit above the median profile. Graduate programs typically admit at a higher rate than the university-wide figure because applicants self-select against the published GPA and English cutoffs. Competitive School of Business master’s applicants should still target the 1 October priority deadline.

Ques. Does Clark University waive the GRE or GMAT for MBA applicants?

Ans. Yes, Clark University waives the GRE and GMAT for MBA applicants who hold a 3.2/4.0 undergraduate GPA, which is roughly 65% or CGPA 6.5/10 on the Indian scale. Applicants below that threshold are strongly encouraged to submit either test to strengthen the file. Non-MBA master’s programs at Clark are test-optional for the 2027 intake.

Ques. Can Indian students work part-time during a Clark University master’s program?

Ans. Yes, F-1 visa holders at Clark University can work up to 20 hours per week on campus during the academic term and 40 hours per week during breaks. On-campus roles include library assistants, research assistants, and dining-services positions. Off-campus employment through Curricular Practical Training (CPT) is possible after the first academic year for co-op or internship credit tied to the master’s program.

Ques. Which MS programs at Clark University qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension?

Ans. The MS in Data Analytics, MS in Business Analytics, and MS in Information Technology at Clark University are STEM-designated and qualify for the 24-month OPT extension on top of the standard 12 months, giving Indian graduates up to 36 months of legal work in the United States. The MBA and MA in International Development do not carry STEM designation.

Ques. How much is the Clark University application fee for Indian applicants?

Ans. The graduate application fee at Clark University is USD 75 (INR 7,181), payable online with a credit card. Fee waivers are available for applicants who attended a US recruitment event, are members of specific partner organisations, or apply through the Common Application for undergraduate admission. Undergraduate international applicants pay the same USD 75 fee.

Ques. Does Clark University accept a three-year Indian bachelor’s degree for master’s admission?

Ans. Yes, Clark University accepts three-year Indian bachelor’s degrees from institutions recognised by UGC or AICTE for direct entry into master’s programs, subject to a WES or MyIEE course-by-course evaluation confirming equivalence. Applicants from three-year commerce, arts, or science degrees enter on the same footing as four-year applicants, unlike some other US universities that require a four-year bachelor’s.

Ques. What English test does Clark University prefer for Indian graduate applicants?

Ans. Clark University treats TOEFL iBT 85, IELTS 6.5, PTE Academic 71, and Duolingo 120 as equivalent for master’s admission, with no explicit preference. Sub-score minimums apply to each: TOEFL requires no section below 20 and IELTS requires no band below 6. Applicants scoring slightly below can enter through the Graduate Pathway Program at the American Language and Culture Institute.

Ques. How much financial proof is required for the Clark University F-1 visa?

Ans. Clark University issues the I-20 for the F-1 visa after applicants show liquid funds covering one full year of the estimated cost of attendance, which is USD 80,778 (INR 77.35 lakh) for undergraduates and USD 60,000 to 90,000 (INR 57.45 lakh to 86.18 lakh) for graduate programs after scholarships. Acceptable documents include bank statements, education loan sanction letters, and sponsor affidavits from parents or guardians.

  • I tried to do more outside the university than what was offered there (which was not a lot)
  • Most of the co-curriculars were for undergrads.
  • I used their sports complex a lot but also did go for social get togethers offered every semester—bowling, canoeing, arcade visits, etc.
  • The most famous fest we had was spree day which was enjoyed by all. A full day of food, music and after-parties. Mainly to celebrate spring and the end of the semester. happens in April of every year.

Fees

  • I had a 25% scholarship and the fee for each course was 5k usd (without the scholarship) and in total had to take 10 courses minimum
  • My rent and utilities would come around 800 usd each month
  • Groceries around 300 USD/month and insurance around 2800 usd each year
  • Miscellaneous – 300-400 usd each month
  • The fee is charged per semester (having 3-4 courses each semester), which also has insurance added to it.

  • Ok, so here is how it goes. Once you walk towards the college in Main Street, on the left-hand side you will see a Clark College property, which was kind of a fancy guest house. We never went in there. Probably it was for some VIP. Next there was a parking lot that also belonged to Clark. On the right side there were a lot of small shops, which were Clark property as well and some shops were used for robotics and woodwork designing. Then move a little bit ahead to the left and you will see a big admin office that handles most of the payment and other work. To the right is the main college campus. If you go further right, there are a lot of houses that Clark owns that act as different offices for Clark. Honestly, I do not even know. And when I left Clark, a lot of construction work was going on. God knows how much more they have expanded.
  • A huge library. A 5-story damn good one with lots of books, private places to study, and open till 10 pm in the night. Basketball, American football—there is volleyball and softball. Medical services: I was forced to take the COVID booster shot. That was not a nice experience. But medical facilities are good. You can get free condoms and free bandages. Use as much as you want.
  • I was not a festive guy. I did not like loud music or anything but there were a lot of fests. I did go to one annual Clarkfest. So much noise but food was good and Indian performances were there. Clark gives a lot of opportunities to do social welfare and also fun activities. I never took part in any. But they have quite a lot. Also take you out for picnics and ice fishing and ice skating. Choose your pick.

Fees

  • I will keep it simple. When I joined the MSIT course in 2022, January. I got a 25% scholarship. Total 10 subjects for the course and each subject was 2500$ approx. Minimum subjects to take in a semester are 3. There are additional charges, such as a technology fee, library fee, printer fee and all those basic amenities as a student that were included. I stayed on my own with some students in a rented apartment. As hostel fees were too expensive. That time it was like $1200 per month per room. So I stayed outside on my own.
  • Fees are charged per semester.
  • Then in 2022, I paid 525$ as rent, 30$ as utilities, and food was on my own.
  • Travel in Worcester: bus service is free; if you take Uber or Lyft, then it is from your pocket.
  • So in 2022, for a normal life of a student, 750$ was enough per month, including rent, food, travel and some fun.

  • There is only one campus of Clark University, which is in Worcester, Massachusetts.
  • Facilities available are the library, sports building, which includes almost every court, medical services, on-campus police, campus shuttle for students that do pick/drop in 5-mile radius, gaming floor, and halls for events.
  • The major campus festival is Spree Day, which happens in April. All the classes get cancelled that day and we get notified in the morning. The major club is the American Marketing Association chapter, which does major events in the university.
  • There are many sports tournaments that happen throughout the year, like cricket, football, basketball, badminton, volleyball, softball, etc

Fees

  • Tuition fee for MBA: $59,700 but Clark gives minimum 15% scholarship to everyone.
  • I received 30% scholarship, after that my fees is: $41,790
  • Hostel for graduate students is optional, you can pay upto 1 year lease that roughly around: $25,000 (You can lease minimum of 6 months)
  • Monthly expenses of off-campus housing is: Rent: $600(average)
  • Utilities & bills: $50-60
  • Groceries: $50

  • There is only one huge campus located at 900 main street Worcester
  •  There are some different buildings nearby like Corner House, Graduate Student Office, Accounts Department etc, Health Services, Dolan Athletic Field for sports, Kneller Athletic center which has a Gym and indoor Basketball, Squash courts.
  • There are different clubs for different cultural events and activities, one of these clubs which I joined was the South Asian Student Association, which conducts all of our Indian cultural fests and activities.

Fees

  • So, the fee structure depends on the program that you’re going into, As I am pursuing Masters in Computer Science, we’ve have to complete 10 courses in the span of 4 semester i.e., 2 years, so the tuition fees per course is 4000$ USD, there will be varying charges per semester like Graduate Fees, Technology Fees., etc but all of these might be negligible based on the percentage of scholarships you receive at the time of Admission, the fees is charged semester wise.
  • Monthly estimate depends on the lifestyle you maintain, basic rent might vary from 300$ in a sharing to 1000$ in a private room, and so goes on the groceries and utility bill, the less sharing the more expensive, my monthly estimate goes upto 550$ including Rent, Mobile, Wifi, Electricity and around 300$ for groceries and traveling My commute is free as the public bus transport is free in Worcester, MA, so I need pay for traveling only if I go out of Worcester City.

  • One campus only, which was equipped with all the facilities: huge library, amazing gym, soccer field, baseball field, basketball court, squash court, volleyball court, badminton, karate, yoga, HIIT room, sauna, snooker/8ball pool table, Olympic size swimming pool. You name it they have it!
  • One of the amazing events is our annual event which shows all the amazing cultural feasts, and traditional dances.
  • Another one is called "Sprenaissance Faire" where all the classes get cancelled out and you will see a DJ booth in the middle of the campus and you can booze around and enjoy the day (the best part is they never disclose the date, so it is very random)

Clark University doesn't offer a traditional Diploma in English program. However, they have several excellent options for studying English at the undergraduate and graduate levels, each with a unique fee structure.
