Emory University admissions run through the Common Application for undergraduate and Emory’s own portals for graduate and MBA, with strong pathways for Indian applicants who have a Class XII score of 85 percent or higher for first-year entry or a recognised Bachelor’s degree with a good GPA for postgraduate study.

  • Fall 2027 primary intake: Undergraduate Early Decision I closes 1 November 2026.
  • Base tuition (UG 2026-27): $70,300 (₹67.26 Lakhs); undergraduate application fee $75 (₹7,176), MBA application fee $150 (₹14,352).
  • Eligibility floor: UG needs Class XII around 85 percent with TOEFL iBT 100, IELTS 7.5, or Duolingo 120; PG needs a four-year Bachelor’s with TOEFL 79-100 and IELTS 6.0-7.0 depending on school.
  • Acceptance rate: Around 10 to 11 percent for undergraduate first-year admits.

Popular picks for Indian students include the Master of Business Analytics and MBA at Goizueta, MS Computer Science at Laney, and the Master of Public Health at Rollins, with roughly 380 Indian students already enrolled on the Atlanta campus. For campus overview, rankings context, and cost-of-living detail beyond this admissions guide, see the Emory University profile.

Emory University Eligibility for Indian Students

Emory uses a holistic review, but every Indian applicant must clear the academic floor and the English proficiency requirement set by the specific school. Undergraduate applicants are read on Class XII rigour, GPA, essays, and recommendations, while graduate applicants are judged on Bachelor’s performance, work or research background, and English scores.

  • UG academic floor: Class XII around 85 percent with strong rigour in five academic subjects.
  • PG academic floor: A four-year Bachelor’s degree from a recognised Indian university with a competitive GPA (around 3.0 on 4.0, roughly 65 to 70 percent).
  • Standardised tests: SAT and ACT remain test-optional for UG through 2026-2027; GMAT or GRE is required for MBA and recommended for MSBA.

Emory accepts three primary English tests for international students, with the score band varying by school. Score reports must be sent directly from the testing agency using Emory institution codes.

Emory English Proficiency Waiver for Indian Students

Indian graduate applicants can request an English test waiver if their Bachelor’s degree was completed at an institution where English was the primary medium of instruction. This is confirmed on the Emory Computer Science MS admissions page and applies broadly to Laney master’s programs on a case-by-case basis.

  • Rollins waives English testing for citizens of designated English-speaking countries — India is not on that list.
  • UG applicants with three or more years of English-medium schooling should contact Emory Undergraduate Admission before deciding to skip TOEFL or IELTS.
  • The waiver is a request, not automatic — send your medium-of-instruction letter with the application.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official Emory University page for your chosen program before applying.

Emory University PG Programs for Indian Students

Emory’s graduate portfolio for Indian students is concentrated across Goizueta (business), Laney (arts, sciences, computer science), Rollins (public health), and Nell Hodgson Woodruff (nursing). Base tuition varies widely by school, from around $34,000 per year at Laney to over $75,000 for the full-time MBA — refer to Emory’s official school pages for the current fee-year schedule.

Planning note: International MSBA applicants must submit by Round 2 (13 January 2027) — Round 3 is only open to applicants graduating from US institutions.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official Emory Laney Graduate School page for your chosen program before applying.

Emory University UG Programs and Requirements

Emory University MBA Admissions at Goizueta Business School

The Goizueta Full-Time Two-Year MBA runs three rounds for the Fall 2027 class, plus a rolling window if seats remain. The programme demands a competitive GMAT or GRE — the recent class averaged GMAT 723 (or GMAT Focus 648) and six years of professional experience, with a minimum of two years required.

Emory MBA Interview Process

Goizueta interviews are by invitation only after an application review. Indian applicants are typically interviewed via video by an admissions officer or a trained alum — the format is behavioural, not case-based, and lasts around 45 minutes.

Emory MBA Work Experience for Indian Applicants

Two years of post-Bachelor’s full-time work is the minimum, but the median admit brings closer to six years. Indian applicants without traditional corporate experience should highlight leadership stretch — startups, family business scale-ups, or verified extracurricular impact.

Planning note: Round 2 (6 January 2027) is the last round for full scholarship consideration. Later rounds still receive merit review, but the funding pool is thinner.

Note: Round-specific requirements, scholarship policies, and interview windows may change during the cycle. Always confirm on the official Goizueta MBA admissions page before submitting.

Emory University Application Process for Indian Students

The path from account creation to submission takes four to six weeks if you have documents ready. Steps below apply to Fall 2027 entry for both UG and PG.

  1. Register on the correct portal. UG applicants create a Common Application account (the 2026-2027 cycle opened 31 July 2026); MBA and MSBA applicants register on the Goizueta portal; Laney master’s applicants use the Laney online application; Rollins MPH applicants use SOPHAS.
  2. Complete school and personal essays. UG students write the Common App main essay plus Emory-specific supplements. MBA candidates submit two behavioural essays and a video question.
  3. Request recommendations. UG requires one counsellor and two teacher recommendations; MBA and Laney master’s typically require two professional or academic references.
  4. Upload transcripts and test scores. Scanned Class XII marksheets and Bachelor’s transcripts for graduate programs. Send TOEFL, IELTS, GMAT, or GRE scores directly from the testing agency.
  5. Pay the application fee of $75 (₹7,176) for undergraduate and Laney programs, or $150 (₹14,352) for Goizueta MBA and MSBA, via the Emory application portal or program portal at submission.
  6. Submit and track. Monitor your applicant status portal for missing items and interview invitations — Emory reviews are holistic, so respond within 48 hours to any request.

Insider note: Financial certification (Documentation of Finances form + bank statements) is required at application for UG international applicants — many Indian students underestimate this and lose weeks scrambling for updated bank letters.

Emory University Documents Required for Indian Applicants

Emory schools share a common core of paperwork, with a few school-specific additions. Prepare digital copies (PDF, DOC, or JPG) before you begin the online form — the portal saves progress but rejects incomplete submissions.

  • Valid passport: Bio page scan (or refugee travel document).
  • Academic transcripts: Class XII marksheet for UG, Bachelor’s transcript for PG.
  • Credential evaluation: WES report for Rollins MPH; strongly recommended for select Laney sciences programs.
  • Statement of purpose or essays: Common App essay for UG, program-specific SOP for graduate.
  • Letters of recommendation: Three for UG (one counsellor, two teachers), two for most graduate programs.
  • Resume or CV: Required for MBA, MSBA, MS CS, MPH.
  • Financial certification: Documentation of Finances form plus recent bank statements showing at least one year of expenses.
  • Video interview: InitialView is optional for most Indian applicants but recommended if English is a concern.
  • Portfolio or writing sample: Only for creative writing, art history, or design programs.

Note: Emory does not require physical document submission at application stage — official sealed transcripts are only requested after admission.

Emory University Acceptance Rate for Indian Applicants

Emory does not publish an official institution-wide acceptance rate. Based on the most recent published Class of 2028 undergraduate data, the overall admit rate is around 10 to 11 percent, with Early Decision landing closer to 30 percent and Regular Decision closer to 9 percent. Indian applicants compete in the international pool, which is smaller and more selective — international admits made up about 17.7 percent of enrolled students in the most recent cohort.

Emory UG Acceptance Rate by Round

  • Early Decision I: Around 30 percent — the strongest lever for a committed applicant.
  • Early Decision II: Around 20 to 25 percent.
  • Regular Decision: Around 9 percent — the most competitive round.

Emory Graduate Acceptance Patterns

Goizueta MBA admit rate hovers near 35 percent across recent classes. MSBA is more selective at around 25 percent. MS Computer Science at Laney and MPH at Rollins do not publish public rates, but both are selective for international applicants — a strong quantitative record and clean English scores matter more than any single test result.

Insider note: Emory’s ranking band and academic reputation are described in the Emory ranking band page — read it before choosing a target round.

USA Student Visa for Emory University Applicants

Admitted Indian students to Emory apply for an F-1 student visa. The process starts once Emory issues the Form I-20 after you accept the offer and submit financial certification.

Pay the SEVIS I-901 fee of $350 (₹33,488), complete Form DS-160, pay the visa application fee of $185 (₹17,701), and schedule your interview at a US Embassy or Consulate in India — Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, or Hyderabad. Carry the I-20, Form I-901 receipt, DS-160 confirmation, passport, admission letter, financial documents (bank statements, sponsor letter, education loan sanction), academic transcripts, and test scores. Apply as early as 365 days before Emory’s program start date, though visa issuance happens within 120 days of start. Post-arrival, register with Emory’s International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) within the check-in window on your I-20 to activate your SEVIS record.

2026 update: Visa slots in India remain tight during peak summer — book your DS-160 interview slot immediately after paying SEVIS to avoid a delayed August 2027 start.

Tips and Checklist for Emory University Admissions

The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Emory across recent cycles — mix insight with sequencing to protect your timeline.

  • Request WES evaluation early: Rollins MPH mandates it — start 8 weeks before your target round to avoid deadline slippage.
  • Book TOEFL or IELTS by August 2026: Score reports take 10 to 13 days to reach Emory using code 5187 (TOEFL).
  • Draft Common App essays by September 2026: Emory supplements ask about intellectual curiosity — generic drafts fail.
  • Request recommendations 6 weeks before submission: Give recommenders your resume, target programs, and deadline in writing.
  • Prepare financial documentation upfront: Bank letter, sponsor affidavit, and loan sanction (if any) — Emory needs these at application, not after admission.
  • Target ED I if Emory is your top choice: The odds are three times higher than RD, but the offer is binding.
  • Use InitialView if English is a concern: A 20-minute recorded interview lets admissions hear you speak — a strong hedge if IELTS is under 7.5.
  • Confirm your GMAT or GRE before Round 1: Goizueta accepts scores up to five years old, but retakes take 21 days to release.

Emory admissions rewards preparation over prestige-signalling — the strongest Indian files pair honest academic rigour, one or two authentic essays, and clean documentation submitted well before the round deadline. Start by picking your primary program and target round, then map every task backwards from that date.

Emory University Admissions: Frequently Asked Questions

Ques. What is the minimum IELTS score required for Emory University?

Ans. Undergraduate applicants should target IELTS 7.5, Laney MS CS accepts 7.0, and Rollins MPH accepts 6.0. Waivers are available for Bachelor’s from English-medium institutions.

Ques. Is the Emory University application fee refundable?

Ans. No, the $75 (₹7,176) undergraduate and Laney fee, or $150 (₹14,352) Goizueta fee, is non-refundable once paid on the application portal.

Ques. Does Emory University require SAT or ACT for Indian undergraduate applicants?

Ans. Emory remains test-optional for the 2026-2027 cycle. Indian applicants may submit strong SAT or ACT scores to strengthen a competitive file, but there is no penalty for skipping them.

Ques. Can Indian students apply to Emory University without GRE for the MS Computer Science?

Ques. How binding is Emory University Early Decision for Indian students?

Ans. Fully binding. If admitted through ED I or ED II and Emory meets your family’s demonstrated financial need, you must withdraw applications from all other US universities and enrol.

Ques. When will Emory University release Fall 2027 admission decisions?

Ans. Undergraduate ED I decisions release by 15 December 2026, ED II by 15 February 2027, and Regular Decision by 1 April 2027. Goizueta MBA Round 1 decisions release on 2 December 2026.

Ques. Does Emory University accept 3-year Indian Bachelor’s degrees for postgraduate admission?

Ans. Rollins MPH requires the equivalent of a four-year US Bachelor’s. Laney and Goizueta review 3-year Indian degrees case-by-case with a WES evaluation. Contact the program before applying.

Ques. What financial documents does Emory University require for the F-1 visa?

Ans. A completed Documentation of Finances form, recent bank statements covering at least one year of expenses, sponsor affidavit if applicable, and education loan sanction letter — submitted before Emory issues the Form I-20.

Ques. Can Indian applicants defer an Emory University admission offer?

Ans. Undergraduate deferrals are considered case-by-case with a written request explaining the reason. Goizueta MBA does not generally permit deferrals except in exceptional circumstances such as medical emergencies.

Overview

I got into Emory University through a program called Quest Bridge. Quest Bridge is a program for low-income or first-generation students. That being said, Emory University gave me the most scholarships. I prepared for admission by attending an event hosted by the school -- virtual and in person.

Scholarship

The scholarship was a word to me through a program called quest bridge. The criteria for a quest scholarship is to be a first GEN or low income student in America. obviously, it must also be a good student as well

Overview

Emory is the perfect school for a liberal arts + science education. My interests are math, gender studies, and South Asian studies; this combination works very well at Emory. The undergraduate class size is not too overwhelming, nor is too small that classes have a maximum of 10 people. The Math and CS departments are great and overlapping in many ways.

I chose Emory University because they offered a great financial aid package of $67,000 without loans. It was also the ideal size being a medium-sized university. The university is also ranked 20 according to US News.
