California State University, Bakersfield Admission Eligibility for Indian Students

Eligibility at California State University, Bakersfield splits along level lines. Non-California applicants need a stronger Class XII record for undergraduate entry than California residents do, and graduate programs each set their own qualifying-degree criteria on top of the institution-wide minimum. English-proficiency floors are level-specific.

California State University, Bakersfield Undergraduate Eligibility

First-time freshmen from India need Class XII at roughly 75 percent, equivalent to a 3.00 a-g GPA on the California college-preparatory scale. The 15-unit a-g pattern covers English, mathematics, science, social science, foreign language, and visual or performing arts. Transfer applicants (upper-division) need at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA on transferable coursework.

  • UG general entry: Class XII around 75 percent, or a 3.00 a-g GPA for non-California applicants.
  • Subject pattern: 15 units covering English, math, science, social science, language, and arts.
  • Transfer applicants: 2.0 minimum on all transferable units, no SAT or ACT required.

California State University, Bakersfield Graduate Eligibility

Graduate applicants need a completed Bachelor’s with a minimum 2.5 GPA (roughly 55 to 60 percent on an Indian scale). Individual programs set higher effective floors, and departments such as MBA require GMAT 500 or above while research-focused MS programs may ask for GRE 148 Verbal and 149 Quantitative.

  • Base rule: Bachelor’s from a recognised institution with 2.5 GPA minimum.
  • GMAT (MBA): 500 or above minimum score.
  • GRE (research MS): 148 Verbal and 149 Quantitative minimum where required.

PTE Academic4358
Duolingo English Test95105

CSUB publishes English-proficiency waivers for applicants from 46 designated English-speaking countries (Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom, and similar). India is not on that list, so an Indian applicant must submit a live test score even after English-medium schooling.

Insider note: Applicants who studied at English-medium boards in India (CBSE, ICSE, IB) still need a valid test score. CSUB reviewers do not treat medium-of-instruction certificates from Indian schools as a waiver route.

California State University, Bakersfield MBA Admissions

The California State University, Bakersfield MBA runs two years across 36 units and admits applicants with an accredited Bachelor’s, a 2.5 GPA minimum, and a GMAT of 500 or above. The program is offered both online and on-campus, and Indian applicants can pick either format at the same admissions bar.

California State University, Bakersfield MBA Entry Requirements

Beyond the base Bachelor’s and GMAT, the program asks for a professional resume, a statement of purpose, and letters of recommendation. Work experience is preferred but not a formal cut-off for entry. The financial-support minimum for MBA applicants is USD 40,028 (₹38.30 Lakhs), which reflects tuition, fees, and one-year living costs required for the visa I-20 form.

California State University, Bakersfield MBA Deadlines and Fees

The MBA follows the same Fall (October 1 to November 30, 2026) and Spring (August 1 to September 15, 2026) filing windows as other graduate programs. Tuition includes the professional-business per-unit charge of USD 321 per unit (around ₹30,716 per unit) on top of standard graduate fees, so total international MBA cost lands around USD 25,000 per year (₹23.92 Lakhs). The MBA course page carries the full year-on-year fees breakdown for the program.

Insider note: CSUB does not require a formal admissions interview for its MBA. The GMAT floor and academic record carry most of the decision weight, so a stronger GMAT compensates for a mid-tier undergraduate GPA in the review.

  • Affidavit of financial support: CSUB-format form signed by the sponsor.
  • Bank statements: covering the level-specific liquid-funds minimum shown below.

California State University, Bakersfield Acceptance Rate

California State University, Bakersfield reports an acceptance rate around 81 percent, estimated from the most recent publicly reported Fall admission cycle. That places CSUB among the more accessible admits in the CSU system, though individual programs (Nursing, MBA, some MS tracks) can be materially more selective than the institution-wide figure.

What the California State University, Bakersfield Acceptance Rate Means for Indian Applicants

A high overall rate does not translate to loose graduate-program review. Programs like MBA, Computer Science MS, and BSN Nursing use additional prerequisites (GMAT, GRE, or science courses), and departmental holds are common if a file lands short on one item. For comparative context, see how CSUB sits against other MBA colleges in the USA.

How Selective is California State University, Bakersfield for Graduate Applicants?

Graduate reviewers weight the qualifying degree (subject match), the last-60-units GPA, and standardised-test scores together. Indian applicants with a strong Bachelor’s in the target subject and an on-target GMAT or GRE score sit well inside the admit band.

Insider note: A Class XII score at 70 percent will not sink the file if the Bachelor’s is strong and the GRE or GMAT clears the program floor. CSUB reviewers weight the graduate-level record and test scores over the school-leaving certificate.

USA F-1 Student Visa for California State University, Bakersfield Applicants

Indian students admitted to California State University, Bakersfield apply for the F-1 student visa at a U.S. consulate in India after CSUB issues the Form I-20 (the visa-sponsor document). The steps run in this order: pay the I-901 SEVIS fee of USD 350 (₹33,492), complete the DS-160 online form, book the visa interview, and attend with the I-20, financial documents, and academic paperwork. Applicants should schedule the interview at least 8 to 12 weeks before the intake start date.

Financial evidence at the interview must match the I-20 cost figure, so bank statements should sit at or above the CSUB liquid-funds line for the applicant’s level. On arrival, F-1 students report to the CSUB International Student Program office for a mandatory in-person check-in and SEVIS activation.

2026 update: The U.S. F-1 visa application fee (MRV, the machine-readable visa fee) is USD 185 (₹17,703) as of the 2026 cycle. Interview wait times at Indian consulates run 4 to 12 weeks and can be checked on the U.S. embassy site before booking.

Tips for California State University, Bakersfield Admissions

The following tips are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at California State University, Bakersfield and reflect how the admissions office reviews international files.

  • Target Fall as the primary intake. Wider program list and full financial-aid cycle, versus a shorter list in Spring.
  • Beat the November 30 Fall deadline by three weeks. Late-arriving Indian transcripts (mailed hard copies) sometimes trigger a hold.
  • Register IELTS or TOEFL 8 weeks ahead. Score reports take up to 13 days after test date to reach the university.
  • Match the GMAT to 550+ for MBA. The 500 floor is the minimum, not the competitive median.
  • Front-load the bank statement. Financial affidavit must be signed and dated within 3 months of the I-20 issue.
  • Ask departmental questions early. Program coordinators respond faster than the general admissions inbox for course-fit queries.
  • Watch the intake-year alignment. Cal State Apply opens the term selection dropdown before the filing window opens.
