Ferris State University Admission 2027
Ferris State runs two intakes a year, Fall (August start) and Spring (January start), and both are open to Indian applicants across most programmes. The Fall intake carries the higher scholarship yield, while Spring works well for candidates who miss the mid-year Fall cutoff.

| Spring 2027 International Application Deadline | October 15, 2026 | Rolling review; submit at least 4 weeks earlier for scholarship consideration |
| Fall 2027 International Application Opens | Expected October 2026 (rolling basis, no fixed close date) | Standard target submission by April 2027 for smoother F-1 slotting |
| Credential Verification (WES or ECE) | Start 8 to 10 weeks before application deadline | Course-by-course evaluation required for Indian bachelor’s degrees |

Ferris State University Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
Requirements for Indian applicants at Ferris centre on academic transcripts translated to the US grading scale, an English proficiency score and financial documentation adequate for the I-20.
Postgraduate Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree with 55% or CGPA 5.5/10 (recommended), rising to 60% for clinical and engineering tracks
- English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 79 or IELTS 6.5 (recommended); verify at the Ferris international admissions page
- Credential evaluation by WES or ECE on a course-by-course basis
- GRE or GMAT for select business and engineering programmes, waived at departmental discretion
Undergraduate Requirements:
- Class 12 completion with 70% to 85% (recommended), depending on the programme
- English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 79 or IELTS 6.5 (recommended); waivers possible for English-medium Class 12 boards
- Financial declaration of USD 32,000 to 42,000 for I-20 issuance
Key insight: Ferris tends to waive standardised tests like GRE for applicants with a US-accredited undergraduate degree or five years of relevant work experience. Indian applicants with strong CGPA can request a formal test-waiver review from the admissions office at the point of application.
Ferris State University Acceptance Rate 2027
Ferris State follows an open-access admissions model at the undergraduate level and selective review at the graduate level, so the university-wide acceptance rate sits at 87% (estimated) based on third-party reporting. This makes Ferris one of the more accessible US public universities for Indian applicants who meet the academic and English thresholds.
Programme-level admit rates vary sharply. Doctor of Pharmacy and Doctor of Optometry admit under 20% of applicants due to cohort caps, while general MS programmes admit above 70% of qualified international applicants.
The headline rate should be read as a floor, not a guarantee. Indian applicants must still clear English tests, credential evaluation and the F-1 financial thresholds to convert an admit into an enrolment.
Reality check: A high acceptance rate does not lower the F-1 visa bar. Indian applicants still need genuine student intent, provable funds and clear ties to home to succeed at the consular interview stage, regardless of how open Ferris admissions may feel.

Ferris State University Rankings 2027
Ferris State’s strongest ranking is its US News Regional Universities Midwest placement, where it has held a stable position in the #85 to #100 band across recent editions. The university does not appear in QS World, THE World or the US News Best Global Universities lists because those bodies index primarily research output rather than teaching-focused regional publics.

|---|---|---|---|
| QS World | Not ranked in QS 2027 | Not ranked in QS 2026 | Not ranked in QS 2025 |

As per US News Best Colleges, the Regional Universities Midwest tier evaluates institutions on graduation rate, faculty resources and student outcomes rather than research intensity. Ferris additionally holds strong programme-level standing in pharmacy and optometry through professional accreditation rather than league tables.
Key insight: For Indian applicants, the absence of a QS or THE global rank does not affect F-1 visa eligibility since consular officers assess institutional accreditation, not league-table position. Ferris is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, which meets employer and licensure-board recognition standards across the United States.

Ferris State University Placements and Career Outcomes 2027
Ferris State reports strong employment outcomes across its career-linked colleges, with graduates concentrated in Michigan and neighbouring Midwest states.
- Employment within 6 months: 95% (estimated) for professional doctorate graduates, 85% (estimated) for MS graduates
- Median starting salary: USD 60,000 (INR 56.7 lakh), labeled market median for Midwest regional graduates
- Post-MBA median salary: USD 70,000 (INR 66.1 lakh), labeled market median
- Sectors that hire Ferris graduates: healthcare (pharmacy, optometry, nursing), automotive and manufacturing, information security, and applied engineering
- Career support: The Career and Professional Success office runs OPT paperwork clinics, mock interviews and employer recruiting events; STEM-designated programmes qualify for the 24-month OPT extension
Insider note: Indian graduates from Ferris cluster in Michigan and Illinois roles because the university’s employer network is dense in the Midwest automotive belt and Great Lakes healthcare systems. Roles in California or New York are reachable but require the graduate to run their own OPT job search rather than lean on campus recruiting.
Ferris State University vs Peer Universities
The peer set below covers Michigan public universities of similar size and mission plus one out-of-state comparison; all are teaching-focused publics that draw Indian applicants for career-linked master’s and doctorate programmes.
| University | QS Rank 2027 | US News Regional Midwest 2026-2027 | Avg Annual PG Fee (USD / INR lakh) | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ferris State University | Not ranked | #94 (estimated) | 16,500 / 15.6 lakh (estimated) | Strongest professional doctorates in pharmacy and optometry |
| Central Michigan University | Not ranked | #40 (estimated) | 18,000 / 17.0 lakh (estimated) | Larger PG catalogue in business and education |
| Eastern Michigan University | Not ranked | #55 (estimated) | 17,500 / 16.5 lakh (estimated) | Metro Detroit location and stronger tech recruiting |
| Grand Valley State University | Not ranked | #38 (estimated) | 19,500 / 18.4 lakh (estimated) | Grand Rapids proximity and higher research spend |
| Northern Michigan University | Not ranked | #75 (estimated) | 14,000 / 13.2 lakh (estimated) | Lowest cost of living in the peer set |
Ferris stands out on two data points: the lowest total cost of attendance across the Michigan public set, and the deepest professional-college pipeline for Indian applicants targeting pharmacy or optometry licensure in the United States. Applicants prioritising research volume or metro-area employer density would compare more favourably against Grand Valley State or Eastern Michigan.
Ferris State University is the right fit for Indian students who want a career-linked US degree at a total cost well below coastal public flagships, and who value professional-college specialisation over broad research prestige. With a total two-year MS investment of INR 28 to 34 lakh against a median starting salary near INR 56.7 lakh, the ROI works for programmes tied to the 36-month STEM OPT pathway and downstream F-1 visa employment options.
It is not the right pick for applicants chasing QS-top-200 branding, big-city campus life or research-heavy PhD placement pipelines. Those goals point instead to Grand Valley State University or a mid-tier flagship in the Big Ten public system.
Ferris State University FAQs
Ques. Does Ferris State University accept 3-year Indian bachelor’s degrees for master’s admission?
Ans. Ferris State University reviews Indian three-year bachelor’s degrees through WES or ECE course-by-course evaluation. Applicants from three-year programmes typically need a strong CGPA of 6.5/10 or higher plus a one-year postgraduate diploma to reach US bachelor’s equivalency. Some departments accept three-year degrees directly when combined with two years of relevant work experience, so applicants should confirm the specific college policy at the point of application.
Ques. Can Indian students work part-time while studying at Ferris State?
Ans. F-1 students at Ferris State can work up to 20 hours per week on campus during semester and full-time during official breaks. On-campus jobs sit in the library, cafeteria, IT helpdesk and department offices, paying USD 12 to 15 per hour. Off-campus work needs Curricular Practical Training or a work permit and is limited to major-related roles from the second semester onward.
Ques. Is the GRE mandatory for MS admission at Ferris State University?
Ans. The GRE is not mandatory for most MS programmes at Ferris State, and many departments have moved to a test-optional model since 2020. Applicants with a bachelor’s CGPA above 6.5/10 or five years of relevant work experience can request a formal waiver at the point of application. Programmes like Applied Statistics and Pharmaceutical Science may still recommend the GRE for competitive assistantship consideration.
Ques. What English test score does Ferris State University accept from Indian applicants?
Ans. Ferris State accepts TOEFL iBT with a minimum score of 79, IELTS Academic with 6.5 overall, PTE Academic and Duolingo English Test scores. Applicants from English-medium Indian boards can request a test waiver by submitting their Class 12 marksheet and medium-of-instruction letter. Some professional colleges require higher subscores in Speaking and Writing, so applicants should verify the current thresholds at the international admissions page.
Ques. Which Ferris State programmes qualify for the 36-month STEM OPT extension?
Ans. STEM-designated programmes at Ferris State include Information Security and Intelligence, Applied Statistics, Pharmaceutical Science, Engineering Technology tracks and select Nursing specialisations. Graduates in these programmes get 12 months of OPT plus a 24-month STEM extension. Non-STEM master’s like the MBA qualify for a single 12-month OPT window, so Indian applicants should confirm the CIP code of the specific programme before applying.
Ques. How much financial proof does Ferris State University need for I-20 issuance?
Ans. Ferris State requires financial documentation covering the first year of tuition plus living costs, which totals USD 32,000 to 42,000 (INR 30.2 to 39.7 lakh) for most programmes. Acceptable proofs include bank statements from a sponsor, fixed deposits, education loan sanction letters from Indian banks and NBFCs. Ferris accepts loan sanction letters from HDFC Credila, Avanse, Auxilo, ICICI Bank and SBI, provided the sanctioned amount matches the estimated cost.
Ques. Are dependents allowed to accompany Indian students on F-1 at Ferris State?
Ans. Spouses and unmarried children under 21 can accompany an F-1 student on the F-2 dependent visa. Ferris State issues a separate I-20 for each dependent once the primary applicant submits proof of additional funds covering their living costs, typically USD 7,000 to 10,000 per dependent per year. F-2 dependents cannot work in the United States but can enrol in part-time academic study and school-age children can attend US public schools.
Ques. What is the application fee at Ferris State and can Indian students get a waiver?
Ans. Ferris State charges an international application fee of USD 30 (INR 2,835), which is one of the lowest fees among US public universities. The fee is paid online at the point of application through credit card or wire transfer. Ferris does not routinely waive the application fee, but applicants who attend a US education fair in India or receive a coupon code from a Ferris international recruiter can enter it during checkout to reduce the fee.

Overview
My college experience was mixed. The academic side of things was excellent while I expected the experience and the network to be a bit better but I can't complain much to be honest. There will always be good and bad people in the world, your life depends on how you build your circle. Scholarship and curriculum were very convincing and felt like this is something that could help me build a better future.
Campus Life
Campus has a plush library in the heart of the campus. There is WiFi all over the campus. There are various sporting facilities all around the campus as well.
Overview
I heard it had a good business school and great faculty! The tour was also beautiful. Peers and staff were very welcoming. It felt like the right fit and they work very hard to help new students merge into college life.
Fees
There was a student activity fee as well as housing and residence fees. Also a meal plan fee and fees for books.
