Thapar used JEE Main rank for its main computing and electronics BE/BTech branches in 2026-27. Some other branches also admitted students by Class 12 marks. Biomedical Engineering and Biotechnology allowed NEET or PCB merit under their stated rules. Counselling began on 16 May 2026 and continued into August. The 2027-28 schedule is not yet announced.

The requirements below apply to the 2026-27 intake. Students preparing for 2027 can use them to identify the entrance exam for their branch while the new schedule is awaited.

In 2026, applicants had to submit their form at least three days before the counselling round. The first-round payment deadline was 25 May. The 2027 notice will give the new round and payment dates.

Thapar BE/BTech Eligibility

The 2026 minimum was 60% in Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or an accepted technical vocational subject, reduced to 55% for SC/ST. Applicants could have passed Class 12 in 2024 or 2025, or appeared in 2026. The 2027 passing-year window is awaited.

In 2026, students awaiting Class 12 results could apply provisionally for JEE Main or NEET merit. They had to prove eligibility before admission. Applicants using Class 12 marks for a branch had to add their marks to the form by Thapar's deadline.

The main computing and electronics branches required JEE Main rank. Some other branches admitted students directly against vacancies. Applicants must follow the selection method for their chosen branch.

How to Apply for Thapar Admission

  1. Open admission.thapar.edu when the 2027 form becomes available and choose BE/BTech or the separate programme the applicant wants.
  2. Register with an email ID and mobile number. Enter personal, Class 12 and entrance-exam details accurately.
  3. Read the branch selection rules and put branches in the applicant's preferred order. Thapar uses that order for allotment.
  4. Upload the required result and category documents. In the 2026 first JEE Main round, the scorecard needed a clear All India Rank and QR code.
  5. Pay the application fee shown for the 2027 form and keep the submitted form and payment record.
  6. Check the counselling notices and branch allocation online. If allotted a seat, pay the stated programme fee by that round’s deadline.

The 2026 application fee was ₹1,500 up to 11 May and ₹2,000 after that date. One online form covered the permitted BE/BTech selection options. The 2027 application charge is awaited.

Counselling, Seat Allotment and Documents

Thapar first ranks eligible applicants under the applicable selection mode and category. It then uses rank, branch preference and open seats to allot a branch. The first 2026 JEE Main round was online; students checked the allotment on the portal. A provisional allotment required full fee payment by the notice deadline and later document verification. A selected student who missed payment lost that offer under the 2026 rules.

The 2026 document checklist included the submitted form, Class 10 date-of-birth proof, Class 12 marksheet, relevant JEE Main result and admit card, character and medical fitness certificates, and migration certificate. Category, income, gap-year and residency documents applied when relevant. Students had to bring originals and a set of copies for verification. Thapar made admission final only after checking the stated eligibility.

Admission to Other Thapar Programmes

Lateral-entry BE/BTech, ME/MTech, MCA, MSc and PhD have separate eligibility and selection processes. The MBA school is at Dera Bassi and follows its own admission, fee and accommodation rules.
