International Students

Admission in University of Melbourne courses is moderately difficult with an acceptance rate of around 70% to 80%. Entry criteria for each program are different and the difficulty level depends upon its competitiveness among students. For example, engineering and management science programs are more difficult to get in than education and agricultural sciences.

Since the curriculum is taught entirely in English, one of the common requirements for international students is a demonstration of proficiency in this language. Other essentials which may vary with course includes GPA, recommendation letters, work experience, etc.

University of Melbourne Admission Deadline

University usually accepts applications twice a year ie. for February and August semesters. Most of the courses follow a common deadline as tabulated below:

University of Melbourne Undergraduate Admission

University of Melbourne offers admission to 3-year bachelor's degree, 4-year honours degree and year-long diplomas and concurrent diplomas in more than 100 major fields of study. Although the number of undergraduate enrollments has increased, their percentage in the total student population has remained around the same ie. approx 51% for the last five years.

English Proficiency Requirement for International Students

University of Melbourne Admission Decision

Successful applicants are informed about the admission decision within 2 to 4 weeks via email along with instructions on how to accept the offer and enrol in the university. The offer could be conditional or unconditional.

In case of a conditional offer, admission is only confirmed when a student fulfils all the requirements by submitting necessary documents. This type of offer is usually given to students who are still in the final year of their study and whose results for English proficiency test scores are not yet declared.

In the case of an unconditional offer, admission in the University of Melbourne is confirmed immediately. To confirm the enrollment, international students have to pay the tuition fees depending upon whether they received a scholarship or not. If the scholarship covers health insurance, then universities apply for it on your behalf. Otherwise, students have to arrange for a policy by themselves.

International students can also defer their studies by a semester or year by consulting respective departments. Unsuccessful applicants can request feedback from the university which will help them increase chances of admission if they choose to apply again here.

Visa Requirements for International Students
