Admission Deadlines

The University of Wollongong (UoW) does not have any specific deadline for admissions. It varies for each department for the range of undergraduate and graduate programs offered by the institute for international and domestic candidates. 

However, the university accepts applications approximately 2-3 weeks before the orientation of the session. You can have an idea about the deadlines from the table below:

International Student Admissions

Approximately half of the enrolments each year are from international students. In 2018, nearly 680 students participated in semester studies or visited the research programs at UoW. The Admission of international students to the university is based on records and English proficiency. 

University Students must have completed relevant subjects in high school for the course chosen especially mathematics and science. The transcripts must show all subjects undertaken, grades obtained (including failures), stages reached or that academic requirements of the course have been completed.

How to apply?

  • UoW application: no fee
  • UAC portal: 70 AUD- early bid applicants (1 April 2020-30sep 2020); 200 AUD- standard (October 1, 2020 to February 5, 2021)

Basic Admission requirements:

  • A high school degree/qualification equivalent to 13-year Australian schooling.
  • Electronic or hard copies of official transcripts/ academic records/ mark sheets translated in English.
  • Proof of English proficiency 
  • Applicants applying to the Bachelor of Performance and Theatre Program are required to audition as entry to the program is cumulative of this as well as their grades.

Additional requirements: Depending on the course chosen, interviews may be taken as a part of course requirement if students apply through UAC. Note that the admission requirements are course-specific.

English Proficiency Test Scores

Non- native English speaking Students coming from overseas must prove their English proficiency through test scores like IELTS/ TOEFL etc. in addition to the course admission requirements.

In case you are submitting TOEFL scores, you must arrange for Princeton to directly forward an official test score report to UoW.

Though the English requirements are course-specific, the common tests results and the minimum marks accepted by the University of Wollongong are as follows:

Note that the university also accepts the Occupational English Test (OTE) but only for the courses related to nursing, nutrition, and dietetics, and exercise science.

*English requirement can be waived off if the applicant’s previous 2 years of study was in English and he/she has completed at least one year of full-time study in an Australian institution.

Visa Process for International Students

Overseas students require a student visa to study at the University of Wollongong (UoW). To apply for an Australian student visa, the applicants need to have the following:

  • A current valid passport
  • Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment
  • Any other documents required by the Australian Diplomatic Post
  • Visa application fee- 620 AUD

Once the student successfully applies for the visa, he/she will have to make an appointment with the nearest Australian embassy to schedule an interview. Additional documents may be asked by the embassy such as health insurance.

Note that, students applying for masters of research, Ph.D. or short term research placement in Australia must also provide a detailed CV and a duly completed form 1221 as a part of visa documentation

If the process is completed your passport will be stamped with visa and you will need to abide by certain conditions:

  • The Student should be enrolled in Full-time study
  • You have to maintain Satisfactory academic progress
  • Maintain the approved Overseas Student Health Cover
  • You must remain officially with UOW for at least six months, or lesser if the duration of the course is shorter than six months.
  • Also, you must Notify UOW of your residential address in Australia and any subsequent change of address within seven days.

University of Wollongong Undergraduate Admissions

Domestic applicants can take admissions at UoW via 2 options ATAR and NON-ATAR.

ATAR applicants need to have a minimum score in ATAR and international baccalaureate (IB) which is course-specific. NON-ATAR based admissions are through individual observation of students. Here students are not based on any quantitative parameters but their qualities such as motivation, communication, academic readiness, etc.

Students via non –ATAR gain admission through the at a Portfolio Admission. A procedure based on interview and completed a portfolio that meets an Australian qualifications framework

The applicants can keep the track of their application through the same portal where they have applied. All the applications are forwarded to the faculty of assessment. It usually takes 10 working days to assess the application and 2 to 4 weeks to announce the results of the same.

Since there is no entrance exam for international students, they must focus on their past academic records and English proficiency test results. Applicants must check course-specific requirements and the admission timelines. . Funding for studying in Australia can be acquired from both the university as well as external sources.

Applicants who are sure of their university are advised to apply as early birds around. Students are advised to check if they are eligible to “credit for prior learning” according to the course chosen and the previous institution. It could allow the student to complete the course in a shorter duration with less cost.
