The University of Western Australia Scholarships for UG Students

Undergraduate Indian applicants at the University of Western Australia can access two main tuition awards, both assessed automatically at admission with no separate scholarship form required. Bachelor of Medicine, Dental Medicine and Juris Doctor programs are excluded from the Global Excellence Scholarship. Indian applicants with a 90-plus percentage in Class 12 typically secure the AUD 10,000 band.

Scholarship Amount Eligibility How to Apply
Global Excellence Scholarship (Top Tier) AUD 12,000/yr, up to AUD 48,000 over 4 yrs (INR 7.99 to INR 31.96 Lakhs) ATAR 98.00+ or Indian Class 12 aggregate 95%+ Automatic on admission
Global Excellence Scholarship (Mid Tier) AUD 10,000/yr, up to AUD 40,000 over 4 yrs (INR 6.66 to INR 26.63 Lakhs) ATAR 90.00 to 97.95 or 85-94% Indian aggregate Automatic on admission
Global Excellence Scholarship (Entry Tier) AUD 6,000/yr, up to AUD 24,000 over 4 yrs (INR 3.99 to INR 15.98 Lakhs) ATAR 85.00 to 89.95 or 80-84% Indian aggregate Automatic on admission
Engineering (Honours) Combined GES Up to AUD 60,000 over 5 yrs (INR 39.95 Lakhs) ATAR 85+ in eligible Engineering combined degree Automatic on admission
International Student Award AUD 5,000/yr, up to AUD 20,000 over 4 yrs (INR 3.33 to INR 13.32 Lakhs) Indian national on student visa, full-time UG Automatic on admission

The Engineering combined pathway is the single most valuable UG award for Indian applicants targeting a five-year integrated degree. A stacked GES plus International Student Award saves up to AUD 65,000 (INR 43.28 Lakhs) across the full program.

The University of Western Australia Scholarships for PG Students

Postgraduate Indian applicants qualify for three Global Excellence tiers, the International Student Award and specialised MBA fee waivers, all automatic.

Scholarship Amount Eligibility How to Apply
Global Excellence Scholarship (PG Top) AUD 12,000/yr, up to AUD 24,000 over 2 yrs (INR 7.99 to INR 15.98 Lakhs) WAM 85.00+ (roughly 85%+ Indian aggregate) Automatic on admission
Global Excellence Scholarship (PG Mid) AUD 10,000/yr, up to AUD 20,000 over 2 yrs (INR 6.66 to INR 13.32 Lakhs) WAM 75.00 to 84.99 (75-84% aggregate) Automatic on admission
Global Excellence Scholarship (PG Entry) AUD 6,000/yr, up to AUD 12,000 over 2 yrs (INR 3.99 to INR 7.99 Lakhs) WAM 65.00 to 74.99 (65-74% aggregate) Automatic on admission
International Student Award (PG) AUD 5,000/yr, up to AUD 10,000 over 2 yrs (INR 3.33 to INR 6.66 Lakhs) Indian national on student visa, full-time PG Automatic on admission
MBA International Prestige Scholarship Fee waiver at UWA Business School; 10 awards per year MBA Intensive applicant with valid GMAT, not sponsored Automatic on MBA application

Reddit Insight: Indian PG applicants report that WAM 75 maps to roughly 75% aggregate in Indian universities, so a solid first-class bachelor’s degree typically secures the AUD 10,000 band. Applicants with a 60-64% aggregate usually miss the Global Excellence cutoff entirely.

Master of Data Science, Master of Business Analytics and Master of Professional Engineering are the most-common Indian PG picks that stack both awards. Combined savings reach AUD 34,000 (INR 22.64 Lakhs) across two years.

Medicine, Dentistry and Juris Doctor postgraduate programs are ineligible for the Global Excellence Scholarship. MBA candidates route through the MBA Intensive Prestige scheme instead.

Reddit Insight: Indian PhD applicants report that securing a UWA supervisor’s written commitment before the RTP application dramatically improves shortlisting odds. Cold applications without prior supervisor contact rarely convert to offers.

External Government Scholarships for The University of Western Australia

JN Tata Endowment’s 2027-28 cycle opens in January 2027 with tentative close of 31 March 2027. Applicants targeting Semester 1, 2028 at UWA should apply within that window. The award converts to a partial grant on completion, reducing effective repayment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ques. What is the maximum scholarship stack an Indian student can secure at The University of Western Australia?

Ans. An Indian PG applicant with a WAM above 85 stacks Global Excellence (AUD 12,000/yr) plus International Student Award (AUD 5,000/yr). That combination saves AUD 17,000/yr (INR 11.32 Lakhs) off tuition. UG applicants at ATAR 98 stack the same combination for AUD 17,000/yr, totalling AUD 68,000 (INR 45.27 Lakhs) across four years. Engineering combined-degree applicants reach a top stack of AUD 65,000 (INR 43.28 Lakhs) across five years.

Ques. When should Indian applicants apply for The University of Western Australia scholarships?

Ans. Apply for Semester 1, 2027 by 28 December 2026 to secure the earliest offer and full visa processing window. Semester 2, 2027 applications close on 24 May 2027. PhD applicants must submit the HDR Scholarship application by 15 September 2026 for the February 2027 cohort. Global Excellence and International Student Award assessments happen automatically alongside the admission decision.

Ques. Does The University of Western Australia require a separate scholarship application form?

Ans. No separate form is needed for the Global Excellence Scholarship, International Student Award or MBA Prestige Scholarship. All three are auto-assessed at admission using submitted transcripts and academic records. Only the UWA India merit awards, the RTP and the JN Tata Endowment need dedicated applications. UWA India needs a Statement of Purpose; RTP needs a research proposal and supervisor endorsement.

Ques. What academic score does an Indian applicant need for The University of Western Australia Global Excellence Scholarship?

Ans. Indian UG applicants need a Class 12 aggregate above 80% for the entry band (AUD 6,000/yr). The mid band (AUD 10,000/yr) requires above 85%, and the top band (AUD 12,000/yr) needs 95%+. PG applicants need a bachelor’s aggregate above 65% for the entry band, 75% for the mid band and 85% for the top band. Medicine, Dental Medicine and Juris Doctor programs are excluded entirely.

Ques. Does The University of Western Australia Global Excellence Scholarship cover Perth living costs?

Ans. The Global Excellence Scholarship only offsets tuition and does not cover living expenses. Perth living costs run AUD 21,041/yr (INR 14.01 Lakhs) as per the Department of Home Affairs student visa benchmark. Indian students typically fund living through savings, part-time work (20 hours per week during term) and family remittances. Only the RTP stipend at PhD level covers living allowance.

Ques. Are the UWA India scholarships available to Indian students studying at the Perth campus?

Ans. No, UWA India scholarships apply only at the Mumbai and Chennai campuses opened in 2026. Perth-bound Indian applicants receive the Global Excellence Scholarship and International Student Award instead. Both routes require the same academic record but funnel through different application portals. Applicants can only enrol at one campus per intake.

  • My husband was already here, so I never faced the accommodation challenge, but I know people who faced the housing crisis and the rents are drastically high in recent times. The university international student centre can help in finding accommodations within campus or outside or Facebook community groups can also provide references to shared accommodations.

  • You can either rent a house/room somewhere just like in India or live in a student accommodation that is not part of the university.
  • Finding a house is the toughest thing in Australia, though.
  • The only tip would be to go somewhere where you already know a few people who live there, so that you can get some immediate help in getting accommodation.

UWA is one of the best universities in Australia as it falls in the group of 8 universities in Australia. Also, UWA is known for its research and is the only uni in western Australia to be on such a high level for my course

Scholarship

I got the "Global Excellence Award" scholarship for my class 12 results. Which amounted to $15,000 each year which makes a total of $45,000.

I am enrolled at the University of Western Australia, Perth for a few reasons. Firstly, it is highly ranked (92 globally as per QS Ranking, 2021) and also a part of the prestigious group of 8 universities. Secondly, Perth is a fast-growing city with great potential, learning from this potential will be a great experience. The course structure at UWA covers all aspects of my major and UWA graduates consistently higher than the national average starting salary and state graduate employment rates. The admission process at UWA was also fair and simple. I comfortably meet the admission criteria. Perth also offers a high standard of living. It offers students a 40% discount on all public transport facilities and also enjoys a low crime rate.

I attended multiple university fairs and applied to 3 universities. I choose UWA over the other 2 universities because of the course that it was offering. I missed minimum scholarship but a very small margin whereas, I was getting 25% scholarship from other universities, still, I choose this because of its reputation, faculty and ranking. I didn't pay any application fees. I scored 83% in my 10th, 84% in my 12 and 3.2 CGPA out of 4 in my undergraduate degree from NMIMS ( no 1 ranking B school in India). I am very happy with my decision.

UWA was my first preference, chosen solely because unit choices are super flexible and I could choose electives in languages such as Japanese in addition to my majors. Also chosen because of the variety of units offered in my chosen majors Giving a great perspective of your chosen major.

It was the closest for me to travel to from home. It is also the best world recognized university near me where I can choose to work anywhere in the world and have my degree recognized. I also have other friends and past students who go there that recommended it.

It had the double major I was looking for (pharmacy and neuroscience). It has the highest university ranking in WA and therefore presumed it would be the best. Family and friends have been before and have recommended it to me.
