The University of Western Australia offers 1,500+ scholarships, of which 10+ are accessible to Indian applicants.

Awards span UG, PG, and PhD paths, from AUD 5,000 fee reductions to 100% tuition waivers. A top research package pays AUD 37,000 per year.

  • Standard UWA international UG tuition: AUD 45,600 to AUD 52,000 per year (INR 30.55 to INR 34.83 Lakhs)
  • Tuition with the International Student Award: AUD 40,600 to AUD 47,000 per year (INR 27.20 to INR 31.48 Lakhs)
  • Net tuition with Global Excellence top tier: from AUD 33,600 per year (INR 22.51 Lakhs)
  • Next scholarship deadline: 28 December 2026 for Global Excellence, Semester 1 2027 intake

Currency Note: All INR conversions use the live rate of 1 AUD = INR 66.99 as of August 2026. WAM refers to UWA’s Weighted Average Mark; ATAR is the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank, roughly equivalent to Class 12 percentile.

The University of Western Australia Scholarships for UG Students

Indian UG applicants at UWA can stack up to AUD 48,000 (INR 32.16 Lakhs) in fee reductions over four years via automatic awards.

The Global Excellence Scholarship pays as an annual fee discount of AUD 6,000, AUD 10,000, or AUD 12,000. Combined five-year Engineering with Commerce degrees can reach AUD 60,000 (INR 40.19 Lakhs).

Assured Pathway to Medicine, Pharmacy, and Dental Medicine are excluded from Global Excellence. Applicants for these programs should target the International Student Award, which covers Indian nationals automatically.

Indian students should confirm their target course sits on the eligible-programs list published on the UWA admissions page before assuming the fee discount applies.

The University of Western Australia Scholarships for PG / Master’s Students

Master’s applicants from India can secure up to AUD 24,000 (INR 16.08 Lakhs) via the Global Excellence Scholarship at UWA, tiered on WAM.

ScholarshipTotal Value (AUD)INR ValueEligibilityDeadlines 2026-27
Global Excellence Scholarship (Top Tier)AUD 24,000 for 2-year PGINR 16.08 LakhsWAM 85.00+; automatic on offer letter28 December 2026 (Sem 1 2027); 24 May 2027 (Sem 2 2027)

Global Excellence Scholarship (Entry Tier)AUD 12,000 for 2-year PGINR 8.04 LakhsWAM 65.00 to 74.99; automatic28 December 2026
International Student Award (PG)AUD 10,000 for 2-year PGINR 6.70 LakhsIndian citizen; visa-holding international studentRolling with admission

UWA calculates WAM from the bachelor’s transcript at the point of offer. Indian applicants with a 75% aggregate typically clear the mid tier and secure AUD 20,000.

The award applies as an annual fee reduction each semester. Deferrals do not guarantee retention of the scholarship into future intakes, so accept promptly if the offer arrives.

Coursework Master’s programs that map to the Global Excellence list can be verified against tuition tiers on the UWA fees page.

Reddit Insight: Indian PG applicants often assume the Global Excellence and International Student Award can be combined. UWA policy blocks stacking two tuition fee reductions, so only the higher-value one gets applied.

India-Specific Scholarships at The University of Western Australia

Both separate-application India awards for the 2026-27 cycle have closed. UWA India confirms the next round opens on a tentative January 2027 timeline for July 2027 entry.

UWA is still finalising University Grants Commission approvals for its Mumbai and Chennai campuses. Any India-campus scholarship offer stays provisional until UGC clearance is issued in writing.

The RTP scholarship is UWA’s flagship research funding for Indian doctoral applicants. It covers tuition in full and pays a tax-free living stipend indexed annually against Australian Research Council rates.

Applications route through the Higher Degree by Research portal. A verified thesis proposal and a UWA supervisor endorsement are prerequisites, so contact your target academic before submitting.

The Forrest Foundation targets outstanding early-career researchers across sciences and humanities. Indian applicants with first-author publications from IITs, IISc, or top NIRF-ranked labs remain competitive.

Doctoral candidates can review UWA’s research-strength areas linked to its subject ranking record to identify well-funded supervisors.

External Government Scholarships for The University of Western Australia

Two Australian government schemes fund Indian nationals at UWA, worth up to AUD 50,000 outright or full tuition plus living costs.

Australia Awards priority sectors for Indian applicants include:

  • Health systems and public health delivery
  • Water security and rural sanitation
  • Agriculture, food systems, and rural livelihoods
  • Climate action and disaster risk reduction

Australia Awards is fully funded and highly competitive. India receives around 25 to 30 awards annually across all Australian universities, so target sectors aligned to DFAT priorities.

The WA Premier’s Scholarship distributes only two seats per WA university each cycle. Indian applicants must first secure the UWA admission offer, then submit through the state government portal.

Reddit Insight: Indian applicants often overlook that Australia Awards requires two years of return service in India after the degree. Skipping this clause disqualifies you at the interview stage.

At coursework PG level, the ceiling is AUD 24,000 (INR 16.08 Lakhs) through the Global Excellence Scholarship top tier.

Ques. When should an Indian applicant apply for UWA scholarships?

Ques. Do you need a separate application for the UWA Global Excellence Scholarship?

  • My husband was already here, so I never faced the accommodation challenge, but I know people who faced the housing crisis and the rents are drastically high in recent times. The university international student centre can help in finding accommodations within campus or outside or Facebook community groups can also provide references to shared accommodations.

  • You can either rent a house/room somewhere just like in India or live in a student accommodation that is not part of the university.
  • Finding a house is the toughest thing in Australia, though.
  • The only tip would be to go somewhere where you already know a few people who live there, so that you can get some immediate help in getting accommodation.

Scholarship

I got the "Global Excellence Award" scholarship for my class 12 results. Which amounted to $15,000 each year which makes a total of $45,000.

I am enrolled at the University of Western Australia, Perth for a few reasons. Firstly, it is highly ranked (92 globally as per QS Ranking, 2021) and also a part of the prestigious group of 8 universities. Secondly, Perth is a fast-growing city with great potential, learning from this potential will be a great experience. The course structure at UWA covers all aspects of my major and UWA graduates consistently higher than the national average starting salary and state graduate employment rates. The admission process at UWA was also fair and simple. I comfortably meet the admission criteria. Perth also offers a high standard of living. It offers students a 40% discount on all public transport facilities and also enjoys a low crime rate.

I attended multiple university fairs and applied to 3 universities. I choose UWA over the other 2 universities because of the course that it was offering. I missed minimum scholarship but a very small margin whereas, I was getting 25% scholarship from other universities, still, I choose this because of its reputation, faculty and ranking. I didn't pay any application fees. I scored 83% in my 10th, 84% in my 12 and 3.2 CGPA out of 4 in my undergraduate degree from NMIMS ( no 1 ranking B school in India). I am very happy with my decision.

UWA was my first preference, chosen solely because unit choices are super flexible and I could choose electives in languages such as Japanese in addition to my majors. Also chosen because of the variety of units offered in my chosen majors Giving a great perspective of your chosen major.

It was the closest for me to travel to from home. It is also the best world recognized university near me where I can choose to work anywhere in the world and have my degree recognized. I also have other friends and past students who go there that recommended it.

It had the double major I was looking for (pharmacy and neuroscience). It has the highest university ranking in WA and therefore presumed it would be the best. Family and friends have been before and have recommended it to me.
