University of Southern Queensland admissions run on a three-trimester calendar, with Trimester 1 (February) functioning as the primary intake where the widest range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs open together. Undergraduate applicants need an ATAR of around 69.50, which maps to roughly 65% in Class XII, while postgraduate applicants need a three-year bachelor’s degree with a GPA of at least 4.0 out of 7.0 (about 55 to 60% in Indian marking).
- Next live deadline: Trimester 1 2027 closes 15 February 2027, though international applicants are advised to apply by late December 2026 for visa processing.
- Base tuition and fee: Base tuition begins at AUD 3,525 (around ₹2.37 Lakhs) per unit for UG and AUD 3,600 (around ₹2.42 Lakhs) per unit for PG, with no application fee charged.
- Eligibility floor: UG needs Class XII around 65% with prerequisite subjects; PG needs a bachelor’s at GPA 4.0 out of 7.0; IELTS 6.5 overall (6.0 in bands) is the institution-wide English floor.
- Acceptance rate: Estimated at 65 to 70%, based on UniSQ’s access-oriented admissions pattern; the university does not publish an official institutional figure.
Popular picks for Indian applicants include the triple-accredited MBA, Master of Cyber Security, and Master of Information Technology, all delivered across Toowoomba, Springfield, and Ipswich campuses. Indian student sentiment on University of Southern Queensland highlights practical teaching, small class sizes, and strong regional post-study work rights under Australia’s regional migration framework.

University of Southern Queensland Application Deadlines
UniSQ operates a three-trimester cycle each year, and the international applications team publishes closing dates roughly eight weeks before each study period begins. Trimester 1 (February) is the primary intake where nearly every degree opens, while Trimester 2 (June) and Trimester 3 (September) carry a slimmer program list. Deadlines below are drawn from the official UniSQ international applicants page and the UniSQ Key Dates calendar.
UniSQ’s primary intake for Indian students is Trimester 1 (February) — most programs open here.
| Intake | Level | Study Period Start | International Deadline | Portal |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Trimester 1 2027 (Primary intake) | UG and PG | 15 February 2027 | 15 February 2027 (rolling, apply by late December 2026 for visa) | OMEGA |
| Trimester 2 2027 | UG and PG | 31 May 2027 | 31 May 2027 (international window typically closes early April) | OMEGA |
| Trimester 3 2027 | UG and PG | 13 September 2027 | 13 September 2027 (international window typically closes late July) | OMEGA |
| Trimester 3 2026 | UG and PG | 14 September 2026 | 20 July 2026 (Closed) | OMEGA |
| Trimester 2 2026 | UG and PG | 1 June 2026 | 6 April 2026 (Closed) | OMEGA |
Both Trimester 2 and Trimester 3 2026 international windows are already closed. The next actionable intake for Indian applicants is Trimester 1 2027, which is currently accepting applications on a rolling basis via the OMEGA portal, with no application fee at any stage.
Planning note: UniSQ’s international closing dates historically fall around 8 weeks before study period start. For T1 2027, plan to submit your OMEGA application by late December 2026 so your Confirmation of Enrolment and visa clear before orientation on 8 February 2027.
University of Southern Queensland Eligibility for Indian Students
Entry to UniSQ is decided on academic performance plus English proficiency. The university uses an access-oriented model, meaning it admits most applicants who meet the stated academic floor rather than running competitive shortlisting. Program-specific requirements can be stricter than the institution-wide baseline, especially in Engineering, Nursing, and MBA.
University of Southern Queensland Undergraduate Eligibility
- UG academic floor: Class XII from a recognised Indian board with an aggregate around 65%, equivalent to ATAR 69.50.
- Prerequisite subjects: English (Units 3 and 4, C grade) and Mathematical Methods for engineering, IT, and science degrees.
- English minimum: IELTS 6.0 overall with no band below 5.5 for most bachelor’s degrees; 6.5 with 6.0 in bands for Nursing and Education.
University of Southern Queensland Postgraduate Eligibility
- PG academic floor: Three-year bachelor’s degree from a recognised Indian university with a minimum GPA of 4.0 out of 7.0, roughly 55 to 60% in Indian marking.
- Discipline-linked degrees: Master of Professional Engineering requires an accredited engineering bachelor’s; MBA requires 3 years’ post-degree work experience at a supervisory level.
- English minimum: IELTS 6.0 overall (5.5 in bands) for IT, Cyber Security, and Information Systems streams; IELTS 6.5 (6.0 in bands) for MBA, Nursing, and Education.
UniSQ IELTS Waiver for Indian Students
UniSQ waives the IELTS requirement for Indian applicants who have completed either their secondary schooling in a recognised English-speaking country, or at least two years of full-time tertiary study in an approved English-speaking country. Applicants who finish an approved English or Foundation pathway through the Union Institute of Language with the required GPA are also exempt. Standard Medium-of-Instruction letters from Indian universities are not, by themselves, sufficient — the exemption route is narrow, and most Indian applicants will need to sit IELTS, TOEFL iBT, or PTE Academic. The IELTS One Skill Retake is accepted alongside a completed Academic IELTS test.
Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official University of Southern Queensland page for your chosen program before applying.
University of Southern Queensland PG Programs and English Scores

Base tuition sits within a per-unit band of AUD 3,600 to AUD 4,935 (around ₹2.42 Lakhs to ₹3.31 Lakhs per unit) depending on discipline — full cost-of-attendance sits on the University of Southern Queensland fees page. Every English score below is drawn from the individual program’s own UniSQ course page.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official University of Southern Queensland page for your chosen program before applying.
University of Southern Queensland UG Programs for Indian Students
Undergraduate demand from Indian applicants clusters in Engineering (Honours), Nursing, IT, and Business. Base UG tuition sits within AUD 3,525 to AUD 4,730 per unit (around ₹2.37 Lakhs to ₹3.17 Lakhs per unit); a standard full-time year is eight units. The full per-course breakdown lives on the full program catalog.
| Programme | Duration | Minimum Eligibility | English Req. Min. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) — Civil | 4 years | Class XII ~65% (ATAR 69.50); English and Mathematical Methods in Units 3 and 4 | IELTS 6.0 (5.5 bands) |
| Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) — Mechanical | 4 years | Class XII ~65% (ATAR 69.50); English and Mathematical Methods in Units 3 and 4 | IELTS 6.0 (5.5 bands) |
| Bachelor of Nursing | 3 years | Class XII around 70%; clearance for professional placement | IELTS 7.0 (7.0 bands) |
| Bachelor of Information Technology | 3 years | Class XII ~65%; Mathematics recommended | IELTS 6.0 (5.5 bands) |

| Bachelor of Aviation | 3 years | Class XII ~65%; Mathematical Methods in Units 3 and 4 | IELTS 6.0 (5.5 bands) |
Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) is a 4-year Washington Accord-aligned degree — the additional year (compared with a 3-year Indian BTech) reflects design and industrial placement components that count toward Engineers Australia registration. Applicants with a 3-year BSc in a related field can bridge via UniSQ’s diploma or pathway routes.
University of Southern Queensland MBA Admissions
UniSQ’s MBA is one of a small number of triple-accredited Australian programs, carrying AMBA, AACSB, and EQUIS recognition. The 1.5-year program runs across three trimesters, and admission is competitive on prior degree and professional experience rather than test scores. Detailed program structure sits on the Master of Business Administration (MBA) page.
UniSQ MBA Intake Deadlines
| Intake | Start Date | Recommended Application By |
|---|---|---|
| Trimester 1 2027 (Primary) | 15 February 2027 | Late December 2026 |
| Trimester 2 2027 | 31 May 2027 | Early April 2027 |
| Trimester 3 2027 | 13 September 2027 | Late July 2027 |
UniSQ MBA Eligibility
- Academic: Australian 3-year bachelor’s degree (AQF Level 7) or recognised equivalent with GPA of at least 4.0 out of 7.0.
- Work experience: Minimum 3 years’ full-time relevant professional work experience, post-degree, at a management or supervisory level.
- English: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each of listening, reading, writing, speaking.
- GMAT/GRE: Not required by UniSQ MBA admissions.
Base MBA tuition falls within the university’s PG per-unit band of AUD 3,600 to AUD 4,935 (around ₹2.42 Lakhs to ₹3.31 Lakhs per unit); full course cost is around 12 units. Interviews are not a standard part of the MBA admissions cycle, but the university may request a short professional statement or CV review where the work-experience threshold is borderline. Scholarships including the UniSQ International MBA Scholarship apply to eligible cohorts — check the UniSQ scholarships portal after submitting your OMEGA application.
Insider note: The 3-year work experience requirement is enforced firmly at UniSQ’s MBA. Applicants with less than 3 years typically get redirected to the Master of Business (MBus) with the same core coursework but no experience floor — a common pivot for Indian applicants under 26.
Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official UniSQ MBA page before applying.
University of Southern Queensland Application Process on OMEGA
UniSQ processes every international application through its own online portal, OMEGA. There is no central Australian platform involved — applicants apply directly and receive their offer through the same system. The full sequence takes 15 to 25 working days from submission to a conditional offer, provided documents are complete.
- Create your OMEGA profile. Register at the OMEGA applicant portal and set up your applicant account with a valid email and passport reference. UniSQ charges no application fee at this or any subsequent stage.
- Select up to three program preferences across UG or PG, ordered by priority. Cross-check intake availability and English requirements against your chosen program’s course page.
- Upload supporting documents including transcripts, degree certificate, passport, IELTS scorecard, and CV where required (see Documents section).
- Submit for assessment. UniSQ International Admissions issues a conditional offer within 15 to 25 business days, subject to document completeness.
- Accept the offer and pay tuition deposit — typically one trimester of fees — to trigger issuance of your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) for the visa.
- Apply for your student visa (Subclass 500) once the CoE arrives, then complete pre-departure enrolment.
UniSQ Admission Decision Timeline
- Offer arrival: Conditional offer within 15 to 25 business days of complete submission.
- Offer acceptance window: Typically 4 to 6 weeks from offer date, listed on the offer letter itself.
- Deferral policy: Offers can be deferred to the next trimester by written request, subject to program availability.
- Conditional offers: Commonly cite pending final transcripts or an IELTS resit — clear the condition before CoE issuance.
Documents Required for University of Southern Queensland
Every document uploaded to OMEGA must be a certified colour scan or notarised copy. UniSQ accepts single PDF files per document type. Missing or unreadable files are the most common cause of assessment delays.
- Valid Indian passport — bio page, with at least 6 months’ validity beyond intended course completion.
- Class X and Class XII mark sheets and pass certificates from the respective Indian board.
- Bachelor’s degree transcripts and provisional or final certificate for postgraduate applicants; final semester result if still awaiting.
- English proficiency scorecard — IELTS, TOEFL iBT, or PTE Academic, dated within 2 years of intended start date.
- Statement of Purpose (SOP) — 500 to 800 words explaining program choice, career fit, and UniSQ selection reasons.
- Updated CV or resume — mandatory for MBA and postgraduate coursework applicants with prior experience.
- Work experience letter on employer letterhead — mandatory for MBA (minimum 3 years); optional but recommended for other PG.
- Two academic or professional references where the program page lists them as required.
- Passport-size photograph in the OMEGA profile section.
Before you apply: Get your transcripts certified in advance from your Indian university’s exam controller. Turnaround at Indian universities can run 4 to 8 weeks for the official English-language transcript envelope UniSQ needs for postgraduate assessment.
University of Southern Queensland Acceptance Rate
UniSQ does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. Third-party estimates place it at approximately 65 to 70%, based on the university’s access-oriented admissions pattern, moderate entry thresholds, and stated preference for meeting-the-bar over competitive shortlisting.
UniSQ Acceptance Rate by Program Type
Acceptance rates vary noticeably by discipline. Programs with professional placement or accreditation ties — Nursing, Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), and Master of Professional Engineering — screen more tightly on prerequisite subjects and English score. Coursework masters in IT, Cyber Security, Business, and Information Systems operate closer to the institution-wide baseline, with most applicants meeting the GPA 4.0 out of 7.0 threshold receiving offers subject to document completeness.
What Improves Your UniSQ Offer Chances
Clean documentation, a coherent SOP tied to career outcomes, and a scored English test above the program minimum meaningfully lift the offer speed and any scholarship consideration. Applicants with a UniSQ ranking band mention (see the UniSQ ranking band) in strategic recruitment areas — Materials Science, Education, Biomedical Engineering — often move through faster.
Reality check: UniSQ’s high acceptance rate does not mean the program is easy to convert into a visa. India sits under Evidence Level 3 since 8 January 2026 for Australia’s student visa, meaning your CoE offer must be paired with genuinely strong financial and Genuine Student documentation.
Australia Student Visa Process for UniSQ
Indian students admitted to UniSQ apply for the Australian Student Visa (Subclass 500) after receiving their Confirmation of Enrolment. Since 1 July 2026, the visa application fee is AUD 2,500 (around ₹1.68 Lakhs), up from earlier levels. Since 8 January 2026, India is classified under Evidence Level 3, meaning full financial, academic, and Genuine Student documentation is mandatory at lodgement rather than on request.
Financial capacity is the single most common decline reason. Applicants must demonstrate access to at least AUD 29,710 per year (around ₹19.94 Lakhs) for living costs, on top of one year’s tuition and return travel costs, as of the 2026 living cost benchmark. Funds should sit in the applicant’s or a close family sponsor’s name for 3 months or more before lodgement, with 3 to 6 months of consistent bank statements rather than a single lump-sum deposit. Post-arrival, Indian students register their address with UniSQ within 7 days, obtain Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the visa duration, and complete campus orientation before trimester start.
2026 update: Under Evidence Level 3, the Department of Home Affairs is rejecting India-lodged Subclass 500 applications for weak Genuine Student statements even where finances check out. Draft your GS response linking your UniSQ program directly to career outcomes back in India, not to migration intent.
UniSQ Application Tips and Checklist for Indian Students
The tips and timeline below are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at UniSQ and the university’s own onboarding timelines. Prioritise the OMEGA submission early — the difference between a late-August and mid-December submission for Trimester 1 2027 is roughly 4 months of visa buffer.
- Apply 12 to 16 weeks before study start: This gives 15 to 25 days for the offer, 4 to 6 weeks to accept and pay the deposit, and 4 to 8 weeks for visa processing under Evidence Level 3.
- Book IELTS 16 weeks out: UniSQ’s IELTS 6.5 floor for MBA and Nursing needs a 3-week booking-to-test window plus 13 days for results; leave time for a retake.
- Choose Trimester 1 for the widest program list: Trimester 2 and 3 open fewer degrees, and popular streams like Cyber Security fill their cohorts fastest in the February intake.
- Certify transcripts 8 weeks before deadline: Indian university transcript departments take 4 to 8 weeks — start before you finalise your OMEGA program choice.
- Match your SOP to program outcomes: UniSQ assessors look for a clear tie between the program, your prior degree, and stated career path — avoid generic migration language.
- Line up financial documentation early: Under Evidence Level 3, 6 months of bank statements is safer than the 3-month minimum for Indian applicants.
- Use the pathway route if you fall short: Union Institute of Language English pathway or UniSQ Ready foundation route can bridge applicants under the IELTS 6.5 or ATAR 69.50 floor.
- Confirm campus preference on OMEGA: Toowoomba is the primary campus, Springfield and Ipswich carry specific program sets — course availability differs by campus.
Applications for Trimester 1 2027 are open on OMEGA now, with no application fee. Indian applicants who submit by late October 2026 typically receive their conditional offer by mid-November, leaving comfortable time to clear the Subclass 500 visa under India’s Evidence Level 3 classification before the 8 February 2027 orientation.
University of Southern Queensland Admissions FAQs
Ques. What are the intake options at University of Southern Queensland for Indian students?
Ans. UniSQ offers three intakes each year — Trimester 1 (February, the primary intake with the widest program list), Trimester 2 (June), and Trimester 3 (September). International closing dates fall around 8 weeks before study period start.
Ques. Is IELTS mandatory for UniSQ admission?
Ans. IELTS is not the only accepted test — TOEFL iBT and PTE Academic are also accepted. IELTS is waived only for applicants who completed secondary or 2+ years of tertiary study in a recognised English-speaking country, or an approved English pathway. A standard Indian Medium-of-Instruction letter alone is not sufficient.
Ques. What is the minimum bachelor’s percentage for UniSQ postgraduate programs?
Ans. UniSQ requires a 3-year bachelor’s degree with a GPA of at least 4.0 out of 7.0, which maps to roughly 55 to 60% in Indian marking. Engineering and MBA programs raise this floor further, and MBA additionally requires 3 years of post-degree supervisory experience.
Ques. Does University of Southern Queensland charge an application fee?
Ans. No. UniSQ charges no application or assessment fee for international applications submitted through the OMEGA portal at any point in the process.
Ques. How long does it take to receive an offer from UniSQ?
Ans. UniSQ International Admissions typically issues a conditional offer within 15 to 25 business days of receiving a complete application on OMEGA. Applications with missing or unclear documents take substantially longer.
Ques. Can I apply to UniSQ without work experience for the MBA?
Ans. No — UniSQ enforces the 3-year post-degree supervisory experience requirement firmly. Applicants without work experience are typically redirected to the Master of Business (MBus), which shares core coursework but has no experience floor.
Ques. What is the acceptance rate at University of Southern Queensland?
Ans. UniSQ does not publish an official figure. Third-party estimates place the acceptance rate at 65 to 70%, based on its access-oriented admissions model. Programs like Nursing and Engineering (Honours) screen more tightly than coursework masters in IT or Business.
Ques. Is GMAT required for UniSQ MBA?
Ans. No. UniSQ’s MBA admissions do not require GMAT or GRE. Selection turns on your bachelor’s GPA, work experience, and English test score.
Ques. Does UniSQ accept MOI certificates from Indian universities?
Ans. A standard Indian Medium-of-Instruction certificate is not, by itself, sufficient to waive the English test. Waivers apply only to schooling or extended tertiary study in a country from UniSQ’s approved English-speaking list. Most Indian applicants sit IELTS, TOEFL, or PTE.
Ques. What visa do I need for UniSQ?
Ans. Indian students apply for the Australian Student Visa (Subclass 500) after accepting the offer and receiving a CoE. The visa fee is AUD 2,500 (around ₹1.68 Lakhs) since 1 July 2026, and India sits under Evidence Level 3 requiring full financial and Genuine Student documentation at lodgement.
Ques. Can I defer my UniSQ offer to a later intake?
Ans. Yes. UniSQ allows offer deferral to the next trimester by written request through OMEGA, subject to program availability in the deferred intake. Deferrals beyond one cycle require re-application.
Ques. Does University of Southern Queensland accept PTE Academic scores?
Ans. Yes, PTE Academic is accepted alongside IELTS and TOEFL iBT. Score cut-offs vary by program — refer to your course’s UniSQ page for the exact PTE equivalent of the listed IELTS band.

Online with a mixture of on campus. So if I miss a class I can catch up online opposed to missing out altogether and falling behind. For example, if I'm working late I can go home and listen to my recorded class.

The University of Southern Queensland was the closest uni to my hometown that offered the astronomy course, the next closest was Canberra and I wasn't ready to move that far away from home. Other places like Griffith and UQ only offered physics degrees.
Scholarship
Although I did not apply for any scholarships, I did look at the process and it was very easy, all you had to do was fill out a page or two of information about yourself and then attach your document explaining why you are the best fit for the scholarship. The only other help that I applied for was HECS help and SA help, which all you literally needed to do was attach your tax file number and then tick a few boxes.
Overview
I chose this university because of the proximity to my parents (same town), because it was cheaper than other schools, and because it has the highest graduate employment rate in the state. Also, the program I enrolled in looked awesome. And it is.
