Wilfrid Laurier University is one of the oldest academic institutions in Canada. Presently, the university is the house to more than 19,000 students from all across the world. Of which, 17,000+ students are enrolled for undergraduate programs and 1,800+ graduate programs.

WLU’s academic calendar is semester-based. International applications for UG programs are invited for the Fall and Winter semesters. There are no specific deadlines for graduate programs/admissions.

Wilfrid Laurier University Admission Deadlines

Undergraduate applications are accepted in the Fall and Winter seasons. The application deadline for the Fall session is June 3. However, admission to the winter session is limited and subject to availability.

The university is currently accepting applications for graduate programs.

Wilfrid Laurier University International Admissions

International applicants are a huge part of Wilfrid Laurier University. Every year, the university receives applications from international students across the world.

Apart from the academic and supplementary requirements, there are two additional factors that are an important part of international admissions. One is the English proficiency and other is the visa process.

English Proficiency Test Score

Since the medium of instruction is English, Wilfrid Laurier University expects international applicants to have a good command over the language. To demonstrate their fluency in the English language, applicants can submit any one of the following test scores:

Conditional Admissions:

If the applicants qualify academically but do not meet the English proficiency requirements, then they can apply for Laurier English and Academic Foundation (LEAF). After successfully completing the LEAF program, they can start their undergraduate studies at Laurier University.

Study Permit for International Students

International applicants may require a permit to study in Canada. It is not exactly a visa but it allows international students to stay in Canada for the duration of their course.

To receive the study permit, applicants require the following documents:

  • An acceptance letter from the Canadian Institute.
  • An identity proof i.e a valid passport
  • 2 passport size photographs.
  • Proof that the applicants can support themselves financially.
  • Letter of explanation (This will help the visa officer understand your intentions for going to Canada)

Presently, Canada is offering the Student Direct Stream to the legal citizens of a few countries (China, India, Philippines, and Vietnam). Through this, the applicants of these countries can receive their study permits within 20 days. To be eligible for this, applicants must:

  • Provide proof of first-year tuition fee payment
  • Have a GIC (Guaranteed Investment Certificate) of 10,000 CAD
  • Submit the report of medical exam
  • Submit a police certificate

Wilfrid Laurier University Undergraduate Admissions

To apply, undergraduate applicants are required to submit the 105F form, which can be obtained through the Ontario University Application Centre (OUAC).

Admission requirements for Undergraduate Admissions

  • The applicants should have 60% above in 6 courses, including English. The top six 4U or 4M courses will be used to evaluate.
    • 4U- 12 grades at the university level
    • 4M- 12 grades at the university and/or college level
  • Submission of school transcripts either through e-mail or fax directly from your high school.
  • International students whose first language is not English should submit acceptable evidence of English Language Proficiency.
  • SAT and ACT scores are not required. But if students want to be evaluated through SAT and ACT, then they can send the scores.

Wilfrid Laurier University Graduate Admissions

For graduate programs, applicants can apply using the OUAC (the Ontario University Application Centre). The application fee of 120 CAD is uniform for all.

Submission of Documents

Within a week after the submission of the application, each applicant will receive an official email for the university. The email will include information regarding the submission of supplementary documents. Guidelines for the same are given below:

  • Applicants are required to upload the supplementary documents (transcripts, test scores) to LORIS (Laurier Online Registration and Information System).
  • Official documents should be uploaded in PDF format.
  • Scanned document files should smaller than 1.2MB.
  • Applicants must submit their reference letters through the link provided in the email.

Admission Requirements for Graduate Programs

To be eligible for a Laurier graduate program, applicants must possess:

  • Four-year UG (honors) degree in a relevant subject.
  • An overall grade B in UG coursework

Admission decisions at Wilfrid Laurier University are made on an ongoing basis. However, applicants may receive a decision on the application within 4-6 weeks via email.
