Program Description

  • The Bachelor of Business Administration in Financial Services at Douglas College is offered as 4 years or 8-term teaching program.
  • It is an on-campus program offered on both full time and part-time basis.
  • Students have to successfully complete 121 credits.
  • The BBA in Financial Services and Administration prepares individuals for positions in wealth planning and securities, and for designations such as CFP (Certified Financial Planner) and CSC (Canadian Securities Course).
  • The program offers a number of electives and a work experience component.
  • In the BBA program, students can choose from three specialties: Accounting, Financial Services, or Management.
  • In order to graduate from the program, students must complete Business (BUSN 4500), the capstone course, which requires students to have 500 hours of work experience that is documented and signed off by the supervisor.
  • This degree is offered to high school graduates, 2-year college diploma graduates, or adults returning to education to obtain higher credentials while pursuing professional accounting and financial services certifications such as CGA, CA, CMA, CFP, PFP, and CFA.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

  • Students have to complete a High school graduation degree.
  • A minimum of 17 years of age is required to the students by the end of the first month of studies in the semester of entry to Douglas College.
  • Students hold a minimum overall grade average of 60% (or equivalent) in the final year of high school.
  • Students acquire a minimum final grade of “C” or 60% (or equivalent) in Grade 11 Mathematics or equivalent for most programs.
  • Students have to complete the foundations of Math 11 or Principles of Mathematics 11 with a minimum grade of "C".

Language Requirements:

  • The students must be able to understand and fluently speak the language of instruction (English) in the program. Proof of linguistic proficiency may be required.
  • The students whose official language is not English must submit the English Language Proficiency scores like IELTS or TOEFL.
  • If the student does not meet the language requirements they can take English Language Learning and Acquisition (ELLA) program and complete it and pursue this program.

VISA

  • Student visa and Visitor Visa (Optional) is required to study in Canada. 
  • The Student visa is a document that the Canadian government issues that allow foreign nationals to study at institutions in Canada.
  • A Student visa is usually valid for the length of the student’s study program, plus an extra 90 days. The 90 days lets the student prepare to leave Canada or apply to extend their stay.
  • The cost of the Student visa is 112 USD.
  • The students need these documents to apply for a student visa:

Work Study

  • "On-campus" is defined as employment facilities within the boundaries of the campus. Students are only allowed to work on the campus at which they are registered as full-time students.
  • The student may work on-campus without a work permit if:
    • Is a full-time student enrolled at Douglas College
    • Have a valid study permit
    • Have a valid SIN 
  • International students can work off-campus if the student is:
    • full-time student enrolled at Douglas College
    • In an academic program that is at least 6 months in duration and that leads to a degree, diploma, or certificate
    • Have a valid study permit, valid SIN
  • To maintain working eligibility off-campus, most students must be enrolled full-time (9 credits minimum).
  • Eligible students can work up to 20 hours per week during academic sessions.
