Visa Process for International Applicants

Study permits fees: 150 CAD

Processing time: Varies (Usually 12 days for visitor visa from India for Canada, not including time for biometrics)

Validity: Length of study time + 90 days

Visa is not required for short term studies of less than 6 months duration or for registered Indians in Canada. Students from China, India, the Philippines or Vietnam can apply online through Student Direct Stream.

Documents required: Acceptance letter from DSI (Designated Learning Institute), valid passport or travel document, proof of financial support, two recent passport size photos (name and date of birth of the person should be written on the back of each photo)

In some cases, letter of explanation, CAQ (Certificat d'acceptation du Québec) and Custodian declaration (if applicable) may be required.

  • Four-year undergraduate degree or equivalent as recognized by Nipissing University in an appropriate discipline (minimum B standing),
  • 3 letters of reference (available at the department website)
  • Preference to applicants with an honours degree with an independent research component (like an honours Thesis or research paper)

While financial aid is not available to international students usually, they are eligible for Nipissing's Entrance Scholarships starting at 1,500 CAD for “A” average students. After the first year of study, they also have the option for on-campus employment through the International work study program.

Graduate applications require three letters of recommendation from professors or other appropriate professionals , who can vouch for the applicant’s level of preparation and readiness for graduate school. Two of the references need to be from someone qualified to address the academic ability and competence of the prospective student to pursue graduate studies. None of the references can be from people who are personally related to the applicant.
