English Proficiency Requirements

As the language of instruction at Simon Fraser University is English, all the students are required to demonstrate their competency in English speaking, writing, reading, and listening before their admissions.

Below mentioned are the ways to demonstrate language proficiency in English. Students can choose anyone among them to demonstrate their English skills.

  • Completion of the last 4 years of full-time secondary school education in English with a minimum grade of 70% in senior level English.
  • Completion of the IB Diploma Program with a minimum grade of 3.
  • Satisfactory scores in any of the Language Proficiency tests:

IELTS – 6.5 (overall), 6 (minimum in each band)

TOEFL – 88 (overall), 20 (minimum in listening, speaking, writing and reading)

PTE Academic – 65 (overall), 60 (minimum in communicative skills)

Visa Application Process

International students who want to study in Canada will have to apply for a study permit. A Study permit also allows you to accept on-campus employment to work on-campus.
