Program Description

  • Simon Fraser University offers an MBA for 16 months, including 12 months of academics and 4 months work term.
  • It is an on-campus, thesis-based program, offered on both full-time and part-time options.
  • The MBA program is designed especially for early to mid-career professionals and entrepreneurs who are ready to move their careers to the next level.
  • Beedie School of Business has 4 programs leading to the MBA degree are offered as:
    • Executive MBA (2 years, Full-time and 20 months, Part-time)
    • EMBA-IBL (20 months, Full-time and Part-time)
    • Management of Technology MBA (2 years, Full-time and Part-time)

  • University provides an online pre-MBA orientation that helps students to complete the preparation of their course before they admitted into the MBA program.
  • At the end of the 12-months of academics, students will have 3 options to complete the work term requirement:
    • Undertake a paid 4-month internship
    • Start own new venture through Coast Capital Savings Venture Connection® SPARK program or approved equivalent opportunities
    • Move straight into a permanent role.
  • During the semester breaks, students have to participate in an internship, a capstone project, and other events.
  • University provides 3 innovation labs to the students for the new ventures: Coast Capital Savings Venture Connection, RADIUS, and VentureLabs.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Students with related Academic Qualification:

  • Students must have a bachelor's degree in a related field from a recognized University.
  • The related fields include a UG degree in Marketing, Finance, Arts, Science, Government, Manufacturing.
  • A GPA of at least 3.0 (B grade) out of 4.33 is required to be eligible for the program.

Students with Relevant Work Experience:

  • Students should have a minimum of 2-year of professional work experience following completion of a UG degree.
  • If students have any work experience then the chances of accepting the applications are more.


Students without related academic experience or work experience students are also encouraged to apply, given they have met one of the following requirements:

  • Students have a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration with a 3.5 GPA (GDBA, a competitive credential that offers the rigor of MBA-level courses).
  • GMAT is not required from graduates of SFU's GDBA program who have earned a CGPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • Students with law, non-profit, entertainment, or other educational and work backgrounds can apply for the MBA program.

Indian Student Eligibility:

Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria:

  • Completed a 4-year UG degree with first class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
  • or, completed a minimum of 3.0 CGPA in the UG program.

Students need to submit a minimum GMAT score of 550 or GRE exam scores with a minimum of 155 in each section, however, for better a chance of admission, students must obtain 600+ on GMAT or 300+ on GRE.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.

  • CV/Resume: Outline of academic achievements and/or awards, publications, relevant work, and/or volunteer experience.
  • Online application form: Students have to submit an online application form at the official website.
  • All post-secondary transcripts: Students have to submit all official documents containing student’s grades. Thus, post-secondary transcripts refer to undergraduate, graduate, medical school, law school, or other higher education transcripts.
  • Three academic or professional references: Referees (Teachers, guidance counselors, or Professors) should comment on academics and that references should submit along with the application system.
  • Statement of Intent: Reasons or intentions for pursuing studies in this program, including a description of prior experience.
  • Electronic Official transcripts: Submit copies of official transcripts from post-secondary institutions attended in PDF format.
  • Personal Statement: It should include a brief overview of themselves, strengths, and any work experience and/or education that students have.
  • Statement of research interests: Student has to fill their interesting research work area in the application form.
  • ELP Scores: Students have to submit their English language proficiency scores like IELTS, TOEFL, or other test scores.

VISA & Work Study


  • A Student VISA is required to study in Canada which allows to work and do research on-campus.
  • The Student VISA is usually valid for the length of the study program, plus an extra 90 days.
  • At the time of VISA application, students need to provide various documents:

Work Study

The Work-Study Program allows students to take part in research-based projects. Students may work on-campus and off-campus.

On-Campus: Work-Study is available during the Fall, Spring, and Summer terms. Students will be awarded 140 Work-Study hours for a term. The hourly rate of pay is $15.20 per hour. It is possible to work on-campus with a work permit if the student meets the following requirements:

  • Valid study permit that includes a condition stating Students may work on campus.
  • Enrolled as a full-time student.

Off-Campus: Students are eligible to work off-campus and may work a maximum of 20 hours per week during regular academic sessions, and full time during scheduled breaks. Students are eligible to work off-campus without a work permit if they meet the following requirements:

  • Valid study permit that includes a condition stating students may work off-campus.
  • Enrolled in a program of 6 months or more that leads to a degree, diploma, or certificate.
  • Enrolled as a full-time student.
