Program Description

  • Master of Science in Pharmacology at the University of Alberta allows students to complete this course in 2 years.
  • It is an on-campus, course work, a thesis-based program offered on a full-time basis.
  • The goal of the graduate program is to form scientists who have knowledge in pharmacology as well as a fundamental understanding of biochemistry, physiology, and molecular biology.

    • Neuropharmacology, Neurobiology, and Neurochemistry
  • Students are accepted into the graduate program with degrees in the biological sciences, physics, chemistry, pharmacology, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacy, neuroscience, medicine, and dentistry.
  • The objective of the MSc program is to lead the students in the development of critical scientific thinking and in the acquisition of solid knowledge of pharmacology principles and specific areas of research.
  • The students are introduced to the method of scientific inquiry and research while creating and disseminating new scientific knowledge.
  • The program offers an opportunity to talented and motivated students to explore different aspects of molecular pharmacology and to perform research in the cardiovascular, diabetes, and neuroscience fields.
  • Students admitted to the MSc program are expected to engage in original research that creates significant new knowledge and will develop critical thinking as well as communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Students must submit for acceptance a thesis proposal that outlines the intended course of their studies.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

  • Students must have a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacology or in a related discipline from an accredited academic institution.
  • The related fields include a bachelor's degree in pharmacology, physiology, biochemistry, and neuroscience.
  • Students have a minimum GPA of 3.3 (B+ Grade) on the University of Alberta's 4-point scale based on the recent two years of full-time study.

Indian Student Eligibility:

Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria:

  • Students are normally required to have completed a bachelor's degree in its academic equivalent, from an academic institution, recognized by the University of Alberta.
  • GPA of 3.0/4.0 (B Grade) based on the recent two years of full-time study (or equivalent) is required.
  • Students will need to submit school results for Class XI showing a competitive average and course registration for Class XII, or Class XII mid-year results.
  • Students in CBSE or CISCE schools, they present 75%+ on their final Class XII exams.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.

  • CV/Resume: Outline of academic achievements and/or awards, publications, relevant work, and/or volunteer experience.
  • Transcripts: Submit copies of official transcripts from post-secondary institutions attended in PDF format.
  • Reference Form/Letter: Three reference forms and letters of recommendation completed and uploaded by referees (Teachers, guidance counselors, or Professors) directly to the online portal.
  • Three Letters of Reference: The online application system will notify the references and allow the student to upload their letters. Letters can be academic or business references.
  • Research Proposal: 2-5 page description of the proposed research project, outlining the relevant legal issues, preliminary arguments, and the proposed research methodology.
  • Statement of Intent: Reasons or intentions for pursuing studies in this program, including a description of prior experience.
  • ELP Scores: Students have to submit their English language proficiency scores like IELTS, TOEFL, or other test scores.
