University of Victoria admissions are grounded in direct entry for most faculties, asking Class XII at 75 to 80 percent for undergraduates and a four-year Bachelor’s at a B+ average (around 70 percent) for most Master’s programs, plus English proficiency.

  • Next live deadline: January 31, 2027 for most September 2027 undergraduate programs
  • Base tuition: CAD 20,000 to CAD 38,000 (INR 12.30 Lakhs to INR 23.37 Lakhs), application fee CAD 184 (INR 11,316) UG and CAD 187 (INR 11,501) PG
  • Eligibility floor: UG Class XII 75 percent, PG Bachelor’s at B+ (around 70 percent), IELTS 6.5 (no band under 6.0)
  • Acceptance rate: around 64 percent across faculties

Indian applicants cluster around M.S. Computer Science, M.Eng. Electrical and Computer Engineering, the Gustavson MBA, M.Sc. Ocean Sciences, and B.Eng. Software Engineering, with student reviews consistently flagging ocean-science research and co-op integration as the pull factors at University of Victoria.

Admission Status: Open. The primary September 2027 (Fall) intake is accepting applications, with the undergraduate deadline falling on January 31, 2027 and most graduate funding-priority dates between January 15 and February 1, 2027. The international application fee is CAD 184 (INR 11,316) for undergraduate and CAD 187 (INR 11,501) for graduate.

University of Victoria Application Deadlines for Indian Students

Deadlines below are drawn from the official UVic undergraduate deadlines page and the Faculty of Graduate Studies calendar. September is the primary intake for Indian applicants because most Master’s, PhD and Bachelor’s programs open admissions in this cycle.

Currency note: All INR figures in this article use CAD 1 = INR 61.50 (October 2026). Live rates may vary, so confirm with your bank before remitting.

University of Victoria’s primary intake for Indian students is September (Fall) — most programs open here. Rolling or late offers happen only when a program has unfilled seats, so plan around the deadlines in the table.

University of Victoria Eligibility Requirements for Indian Students

UVic applies a two-filter model: a faculty-wide academic floor, and program-specific prerequisites. English proficiency is a separate hurdle any applicant whose first language is not English must clear.

  • UG general entry: Class XII at 75 percent from CBSE, ISC or a recognised state board
  • UG Engineering and Computer Science: Class XII at 80 percent with Mathematics and Physics studied through Class XII
  • PG Master’s floor: four-year Bachelor’s at B+ average (around 70 percent or CGPA 7.0 on 10)
  • PhD floor: Master’s degree at A- (around 75 percent) in a related field
  • Three-year Indian Bachelor’s: accepted into most Master’s programs if first class is maintained, usually with a one-year bridging recommendation

University of Victoria English Proficiency Requirements

Scores must be from a test taken within 2 years of the start term. UVic accepts all five tests below; the graduate floor is used across most Master’s and PhD admissions.

TestUG MinimumPG MinimumSub-score Rule
IELTS Academic6.56.5No band below 6.0
TOEFL iBT9090No section below 20
PTE Academic6565No skill below 60
CAEL7070No component below 60
Cambridge CAE/CPE180180No component below 170

University of Victoria IELTS Waiver for Indian Students

UVic will waive the English test if your entire Bachelor’s degree was taught in English at an institution where English is the formal medium of instruction. In practice, graduates of Indian universities whose transcripts or official letter confirm English-medium delivery can request an exemption at application. The second route is completing UVic’s University Admission Preparation (UAP) course with a minimum 80 percent. There is no Year 12 English waiver and no country-of-prior-study waiver for Indian applicants.

Insider note: Attach an institutional letter on university letterhead explicitly stating English medium of instruction — a Bachelor’s transcript alone is often rejected as proof. Request this letter at least 6 weeks before applying.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official University of Victoria page for your chosen program before applying.

University of Victoria PG Programs for Indian Students

UVic’s Master’s catalogue spans around 60 fields across science, engineering, humanities and business. Base tuition for most Master’s programs sits between CAD 7,500 and CAD 12,000 per term for international students (around INR 4.61 Lakhs to INR 7.38 Lakhs per term), with Engineering and MBA priced higher. For a course-wise fees breakdown, see the Fees silo.

University of Victoria UG Programs for Indian Students

Undergraduate admission is direct-entry into a specific faculty; students who do not meet an engineering or science prerequisite are typically redirected into Arts or General Studies. Base tuition sits at CAD 20,000 to CAD 38,000 per year (INR 12.30 Lakhs to INR 23.37 Lakhs), with Engineering programs at the top of that band around CAD 36,000 (INR 22.14 Lakhs).

University of Victoria MBA Admissions for Indian Students

The Gustavson MBA runs as a 16-month full-time program starting each September, with one international immersion term built into the curriculum. Base tuition is approximately CAD 39,331 (INR 24.19 Lakhs) in total program fees for the international cohort. See funding for Indian students for Gustavson-specific awards.

Gustavson MBA Eligibility and Work Experience

Entry requires a four-year Bachelor’s at a B+ average (around 73 percent) and a minimum of 2 years of full-time professional work experience by program start. GMAT or GRE is not required for most applicants, though a strong score can offset a weaker academic record.

Gustavson MBA Interview and Rounds

Shortlisted candidates sit a 30 to 45 minute virtual interview with the Admissions Committee, usually scheduled 2 to 3 weeks after a complete file. The program follows fixed deadlines, not rolling rounds: visa applicants submit by March 31, 2027 for the September 2027 cohort, with a final deadline of April 30, 2027 for applicants who do not need a study permit.

Reality check: Indian applicants frequently underprice the work-experience requirement. Internships, articleship or research assistantships do not count — the 2-year clock starts after a Bachelor’s degree in a salaried role.

English requirement for the MBA is IELTS 7.0 with no band below 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 100 with no section below 20 — higher than the UVic graduate floor.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official University of Victoria page for the Gustavson MBA before applying.

University of Victoria PhD Admissions for Indian Students

PhD admission at UVic is supervisor-first: you must identify and secure interest from a faculty member before the department will process your application. Base tuition is approximately CAD 2,900 per term (around INR 1.78 Lakhs) for the first 10 terms, with a mandatory PhD fellowship of CAD 10,000 per year (INR 6.15 Lakhs) from the Faculty of Graduate Studies for the 2026-2027 cycle.

Finding a Supervisor at University of Victoria

Begin supervisor outreach 6 to 9 months before the January 15, 2027 funding deadline. A short, specific email with a research question, your CV, and a 300-word proposal outperforms generic enquiries. Many departments publish supervisor-availability pages for the 2027 intake.

UVic PhD Funding and Scholarships

Beyond the base fellowship, PhD students compete for the UVic Graduate Fellowship (around CAD 17,500 per year), Vanier CGS (CAD 50,000 per year for 3 years), and department-specific RA stipends. See the University of Victoria scholarships page for the full set.

Insider note: Indian applicants who hit the January 15 funding priority date and secure supervisor confirmation by December are the ones who clear the committee — late-cycle PhD files rarely receive funded offers.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official University of Victoria page for your chosen PhD department before applying.

University of Victoria Application Process

The portal and the exact fee differ by level. Undergraduate applicants use EducationPlannerBC; graduate applicants use UVic’s own graduate portal. All documents, except final transcripts, must be uploaded at the time of application.

  1. Shortlist your program and verify the eligibility floor on the department page.
  2. Create an account on the EducationPlannerBC application portal (undergraduate) or UVic Graduate Portal.
  3. Upload Class XII or Bachelor’s transcripts, English test scorecard, and (for graduate) a Statement of Intent.
  4. For graduate applicants, add the email addresses of two academic or professional referees — UVic contacts them directly.
  5. Pay the application fee of CAD 184 (around INR 11,316) for undergraduate or CAD 187 (around INR 11,501) for graduate on the portal.
  6. Submit the application and record your UVic student number.
  7. Monitor the online portal for conditional offers and document requests.
  • Fee waivers: UVic does not publish a general international fee waiver — budget for the full amount
  • Transcript upload: unofficial PDFs are accepted at application; sealed hard copies are needed only on acceptance
  • References: only for graduate applications — undergraduate admission is numbers-driven

University of Victoria Admission Decisions Timeline

Decision timelines vary by level and faculty, but UVic’s published pattern is consistent for the September 2027 intake.

  • Undergraduate conditional offer: 4 to 6 weeks after a complete file, from mid-February 2027
  • Graduate funded offer: March to early April 2027 for January 15 priority applicants
  • Graduate regular offer: April to June 2027 for May 31 deadline applicants
  • Offer acceptance deadline: typically June 1, 2027, with a CAD 500 (INR 30,750) non-refundable deposit for undergraduates
  • Deferral policy: one-term deferral allowed with documented reason, requested before June 1

Offers from UVic are conditional on final transcripts, English test confirmation, and a cleared study permit. Students who miss the acceptance deadline forfeit their seat without appeal.

University of Victoria Documents Required for Indian Students

UVic uses a paperwork-light application at submission; the heavier document pack lands only after a conditional offer. Keep certified hard copies ready for the post-offer stage.

  • Passport bio page (valid for at least 18 months)
  • Class XII marksheet and provisional/final certificate for undergraduate applicants
  • Bachelor’s degree certificate and consolidated transcript for graduate applicants
  • English test official score report (IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, CAEL, or Cambridge CAE/CPE)
  • Statement of Intent (500 to 1,000 words) for graduate applications
  • CV or academic resume for graduate applications
  • Two reference email addresses — UVic solicits recommendations directly
  • Proof of funds (bank statement or GIC) for the study permit stage, not application
  • Portfolio or audition recording for Fine Arts and Music applicants only
  • Work-experience letters on company letterhead for MBA and MPA applicants

University of Victoria Acceptance Rate for Indian Students

UVic’s institution-wide acceptance rate sits at approximately 64 percent across all applicants, which places it in the mid-selectivity band for Canadian comprehensive universities. The number is a weighted average and masks sharp differences between faculties.

Program-Level Selectivity at University of Victoria

Engineering, Computer Science, and the Gustavson MBA sit at the competitive end, with offer rates estimated between 30 and 45 percent for international applicants in recent cycles. Arts, Humanities, Education and most Science programs clear closer to 70 percent. Law (LL.B. and JD) is the most restricted, with sub-20 percent acceptance.

How Indian Applicants Compare at University of Victoria

Indian applicants typically clear the academic bar comfortably but lose on English and research fit — the two most common reasons for a Master’s rejection. Hitting IELTS 7.0 and securing supervisor confirmation lifts you well above the pool average.

Key insight: UVic weighs the university’s ranking band on your Bachelor’s degree. Degrees from IIT, NIT, BITS, and top state universities move through faster than offers from lesser-known private universities with similar GPA.

Canada Study Permit for University of Victoria

Indian students admitted to UVic apply for a Canada Study Permit through IRCC, usually under the Student Direct Stream (SDS) which processes most Indian applications within 20 calendar days. The permit is granted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, not UVic. Required proofs include the UVic Letter of Acceptance, a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) of CAD 20,635 (around INR 12.69 Lakhs), the first year’s tuition payment receipt, and IELTS 6.0 or equivalent. Biometrics are collected at a Canada VAC in India within 30 days of applying. After arrival in British Columbia, enrol in the BC Medical Services Plan within the first 3 months and apply for a Social Insurance Number if you plan to work on-campus. The Study Permit covers 20 hours of off-campus work per week during terms and full-time during scheduled breaks.

2026 update: Canada’s new provincial attestation letter (PAL) is required alongside the Letter of Acceptance for most undergraduate and non-research graduate applicants. UVic issues the PAL automatically with the offer letter for 2027 intake applicants.

Tips for University of Victoria Admissions

The following tips are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at University of Victoria over recent cycles.

  • Apply by January 15, 2027 for any funded graduate seat, not May 31
  • Secure supervisor confirmation in writing before submitting a research Master’s or PhD file
  • Attach an English-medium letter on university letterhead if you are claiming the MOI exemption
  • Push for IELTS 7.0 even when the floor is 6.5 — it offsets a borderline GPA
  • Highlight ocean, climate or sustainability projects in your Statement of Intent — these align with UVic’s research strengths
  • Keep your GIC and first-term tuition receipt ready within 2 weeks of the offer letter to clear SDS fast
  • Request two separate Co-op referees for Engineering and CS Bachelor’s — co-op fit is weighed at admission

University of Victoria Admissions Checklist

The following steps cover what Indian applicants typically complete, sequenced from 10 months before the primary deadline.

  • 10 months out: shortlist programs and identify a supervisor for research degrees
  • 8 months out: book and sit the IELTS, TOEFL, PTE or CAEL at a validity-safe date
  • 6 months out: request Class XII or Bachelor’s transcripts and the English-medium letter
  • 4 months out: draft the Statement of Intent and confirm two referees for graduate applications
  • 2 months out: submit the online application and pay the fee (CAD 184 or CAD 187)
  • On receiving offer: buy the CAD 20,635 GIC and pay the first-term tuition deposit
  • Within 2 weeks of offer: file the Study Permit under SDS with the PAL and LOA

University of Victoria rewards applicants who treat the January 15 funding priority as the real deadline, pair it with a confirmed supervisor for research degrees, and arrive with a valid English score and the PAL in hand. The May 31 fallback exists but rarely wins funded seats.

Overview

I already lived in Victoria, so it was an option that is close to home. I also received a GPA-based entrance scholarship of $3000, which motivated me to continue at UVic. I like the student engagement and different options for clubs/activities/events that are available, and the campus is quite lovely, especially in the sun. We are also very close to beaches and water, which is great. The psychology program is great and has lots of options such as co-op and honours to elevate your degree. Many of the profs that I’ve had are absolutely incredible. I definitely haven’t had the busy, extra-curricular-filled experience that some students may have, but I have benefited from the support and resources provided by Uvic numerous times. I have learned a lot and generally enjoyed my classes and experience so far.

Scholarship

Entrance scholarship - no additional application process (GPA-based - I had 91% high school GPA). One-time tuition credit of $3000 CAD (approximately 1 semester’s worth)

Overview

The overall experience has been amazing. As the class size is smaller, we were able to forge personal relationships with our faculty and others in the cohort. The class is more like a small family. I have been fortunate to have made great friends on the campus. I wish the placement and Career cells of the college were more active.

Scholarship

Yes. Based on previous experience, research or publication, scholarships are automatically provided to applicants.

Overview

UVic is one of the most popular universities in Canada given it's great reputation and location. It's also one of the oldest universities in Canada. It offers three specializations under it's Bcom program i.e Service Management, entrepreneurship and International Management. Students can further advance into fields such as investment banking, human resources etc thus proving to be a very versatile program for students not sure what they wanna pick initially.

Overview

Uvic is my hometown university which I have always planned to attend as a result of cheaper expenses while living at home. I also applied at the University of Alberta but then decided to stay home to keep living costs lower. While applying to the two combined schools I spent $200 on application fees.

I have received an entrance scholarship from the school.
