Western University admissions are decided per program on the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) portal for undergraduates and Western’s School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS) portal for graduates, with an institutional floor of around 75 percent in Class XII for most UG programs and a Bachelor’s degree with 70 percent across the last two full-time years for master’s applicants.

  • Next live deadline: Fall 2027 Group A equal-consideration closes 15 January 2027 for undergraduate OUAC 105 applicants.
  • Base tuition and application fee: International UG base tuition runs roughly CAD 40,000 to CAD 65,000 per year (INR 27.76 to 45.10 Lakhs); the OUAC 105 application fee is CAD 156 (around INR 10,825) for up to three program choices.
  • Eligibility floor: Class XII around 75 percent for UG and a four-year Bachelor’s with 70 percent for PG, plus IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 86, PTE 65 or Duolingo 115.
  • Acceptance rate: around 55 to 60 percent institution-wide, though Ivey Business School and Engineering admit far fewer applicants than that band suggests.

Popular routes for Indian students include the Ivey Business School MBA, Master of Science in Computer Science, and Bachelor of Engineering. Reviewers on the Western University profile call out the strong co-op options, campus career services, and one of Canada’s largest South Asian student communities.

Status: Open. The primary intake is Fall 2027 (September start), since undergraduate and most master’s programs open only in that cycle. The OUAC 105 international undergraduate application for the 2027 cycle opens in September 2026 and the Group A equal-consideration deadline is 15 January 2027. The OUAC 105 application fee is CAD 156 (around INR 10,825). Ivey Business School’s January 2027 MBA intake is closing soon, with Round 4 on 4 September 2026 and Round 5 on 2 November 2026 through the Ivey MBA portal.

Western University Application Deadlines for Indian Students

Western University runs three main admission tracks: the OUAC-based undergraduate route for Fall (September), the SGPS graduate route for most master’s and PhD programs, and Ivey Business School’s rolling five-round MBA calendar that now opens the new January cohort. Dates below come from the Western OUAC application page and each faculty’s program page.

Western’s primary intake for Indian students is Fall 2027 (September start), since undergraduate programs and most master’s programs open in that cycle. International undergraduates apply through the OUAC 105 form; graduate applicants use the SGPS portal; MBA applicants use the dedicated Ivey portal.

Western University Eligibility for Indian Students

Eligibility at Western sits on two layers: an academic floor set by the faculty (Class XII percentage for UG, degree average for PG) and an English proficiency floor that applies across the board. Western states the institution-wide minimums plainly, but competitive faculties like Ivey and Engineering admit well above the floor.

  • UG general entry: Class XII at around 75 percent with the prerequisites your faculty requires.
  • UG Engineering and Ivey AEO: mid to high 80s in Class XII, plus subject prerequisites in Mathematics and Physics.
  • Master’s entry: a four-year Bachelor’s with at least a 70 percent average in the last two full-time years.
  • PhD entry: a Master’s degree with at least a 70 percent average and a matching supervisor.

Western University English Proficiency Minimums

Scores below are the SGPS institution-wide floor. Program-level minimums are often higher, particularly for Ivey, MMASc and Engineering.

TestMinimum ScoreNotes
IELTS Academic6.5 overallNo band below 6.0 for most programs
TOEFL iBT (before 21 Jan 2026)86 overall, no section below 20Western TOEFL code 0984
TOEFL iBT (on/after 21 Jan 2026)4.5 overall, no section below 4New scoring format
Duolingo English Test115MMASc requires 120
PTE Academic65 (Ivey MBA: 70)Program specific
CAEL60Accepted at graduate level

Insider note: Ivey MBA raises the IELTS floor to 7.0 with 7.0 in each band and TOEFL iBT to 100, well above the SGPS floor. Do not assume the institutional minimum applies to your program.

Western University IELTS Waiver for Indian Students

Western waives the English test for applicants who complete four years of full-time secondary school in English. This helps Indian students from English-medium CBSE, ICSE and IB schools where the medium of instruction is English throughout senior secondary. The waiver does not apply to Nursing and Ivey MBA requires the test unless English was your first working language for two years. Graduate applicants who narrowly miss the score can accept a conditional offer via Western’s English Language Centre pathway.

Western University PG Programs and English Requirements

Postgraduate applicants apply directly to their department through the SGPS portal. Base international tuition for master’s programs runs roughly CAD 20,000 to CAD 50,000 per year (INR 13.88 to 34.70 Lakhs) depending on faculty; see the course-wise fees breakdown for exact figures and the Fees silo for cost-of-attendance details. The programs below are the routes Indian applicants pursue most often.

Western University Undergraduate Programs for Indian Students

Undergraduates apply through the OUAC 105 form to a Western faculty (not a specific major, for most programs). Base international UG tuition runs around CAD 40,000 to CAD 65,000 per year (INR 27.76 to 45.10 Lakhs), varying widely by faculty. Class XII percentage requirements below reflect competitive admits, not just the published floor.

ProgrammeDurationMinimum EligibilityEnglish Req. Min.

Western University UG Prerequisite Subjects

Western looks at your Class XII marks in the specific prerequisites, not just your aggregate. Engineering needs Math and Physics; BHSc needs Biology and Chemistry; BSc requires the science subjects matching your target major. A strong aggregate cannot compensate for a missing prerequisite subject.

Western University Ivey MBA Admissions

The Ivey MBA is a 12-month intensive program shifting to a January start in 2027, with rolling admissions across five rounds. Indian students form around 26 percent of a typical Ivey MBA cohort, the single largest international group. Decisions arrive within 4 to 6 weeks of the completed application; scholarship consideration is stronger in earlier rounds.

Ivey MBA Rounds for January 2027 Intake

RoundDeadlineStatus
Round 44 September 2026Closing soon
Round 52 November 2026Open (final round)

Ivey MBA Test and Experience Requirements

  • GMAT or GRE: average admit scores GMAT 670 or GMAT Focus 615+; waivers possible for engineering, science, CFA, CPA or PEng candidates.
  • Work experience: two years minimum, up to ten years, in full-time professional roles.
  • English proficiency: IELTS 7.0 with 7.0 in each band, TOEFL iBT 100 (pre-Jan 2026 scoring), PTE 70 or Duolingo 125.
  • Assessments: two essay questions, two video-recorded questions, two professional references, and an interview for shortlisted candidates.

Planning note: Ivey’s January 2027 study-visa slot for Indian applicants is tight given IRCC processing timelines. Aim for Round 4 (4 September 2026) or the earliest possible round to protect visa runway.

Ivey also runs an Executive MBA (weekend format, senior professionals) and MSc in Management, with separate calendars on the Ivey MBA program page. See the Fees and Scholarships silos for total-cost and funding for Indian students.

Western University PhD Admissions Process

PhD admission at Western is supervisor-driven. You must identify a faculty member willing to supervise your research before the department will move your application forward, so treat the SGPS deadline as the outer limit and start supervisor outreach 4 to 6 months earlier.

Western PhD Application Steps for Indian Applicants

  1. Shortlist 3 to 5 potential supervisors from your target department’s faculty pages.
  2. Send a tailored email with your CV, research statement and preliminary proposal.
  3. Secure informal supervisor interest before submitting on the SGPS portal.
  4. Submit application, transcripts, IELTS, statement of research and references by the department deadline (typically 1 December 2026 for Fall 2027 start).

Western PhD Funding and Stipend

Most funded PhD offers include a base support package (tuition scholarship plus stipend) tied to Teaching Assistantships and Research Assistantships. Amounts vary by department and academic year, so confirm the current stipend on your supervisor’s departmental funding page. See the funding options for Indian students page for external awards.

Western University Application Process Step by Step

The path differs by level, but every applicant lands on Western’s Offer Portal for their final decision. Undergraduates route through the province-wide OUAC system; graduates use the SGPS portal; Ivey MBA applicants use the dedicated Ivey portal.

  1. Choose your route. UG applicants use OUAC 105 (international); PG applicants use the SGPS program page; MBA applicants use the Ivey MBA portal.
  2. Create your account and add programs. On OUAC 105, add up to three Ontario university choices for the base fee; each extra choice costs CAD 50 (INR 3,470).
  3. Pay the application fee of CAD 156 (around INR 10,825) on the OUAC 105 platform (UG), CAD 150 (around INR 10,409) per program on SGPS (most PG), or the Ivey MBA assessment fee at the Ivey portal.
  4. Upload required documents to Western’s Applicant Portal within 7 days of submission: transcripts, Class XII certificate, English test score, SOP, LORs and any faculty-specific supplements.
  5. Track your status on the Offer Portal; Western may issue a conditional offer based on mid-term Class XII marks, with final conditions cleared on receipt of Class XII passing marksheets.
  6. Accept the offer and pay the tuition deposit by the date stated in the offer letter to secure your seat.

Western University Admission Decision Timeline

OUAC 105 undergraduate decisions begin rolling from February 2027 and continue through May 2027 as final Class XII results arrive. SGPS decisions typically arrive 8 to 12 weeks after the program deadline. Ivey MBA decisions land within 4 to 6 weeks of the round deadline, often faster in earlier rounds. Offers usually give 3 to 6 weeks to accept and remit the deposit.

Documents Required for Western University Admissions

Western accepts documents through its Applicant Portal after the application is submitted. Every document must be certified and scanned in colour; original transcripts follow later, mailed by the issuing institution. Below is the paperwork most Indian applicants need across UG and PG applications.

  • Passport: bio page copy, valid for at least the duration of the program.
  • Academic transcripts: Class X, Class XII (in-progress or complete) for UG; Bachelor’s transcripts and degree certificate for PG.
  • Predicted or interim results: Board-issued mid-term marksheets if Class XII is in progress.
  • English test score report: IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Duolingo or CAEL sent directly from the test provider.
  • Statement of Purpose (SOP): program-specific, 500 to 1,000 words for most PG programs.
  • Letters of Recommendation (LORs): typically two academic (UG, PG) or two professional (MBA), submitted via the referee portal.
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV): required for PG, MBA and PhD applications.
  • Financial documentation: proof of funds for visa stage, not upfront at application.
  • Passport-size photograph: as specified by each program.
  • Faculty supplements: Ivey AEO essays, MBA video assessments, portfolios (Music, Visual Arts), audition sign-up (Music).

Before you apply: Board-issued transcripts from CBSE and CISCE take 4 to 6 weeks to arrive by mail; request them the day you file your application, not after.

Western University Acceptance Rate for Indian Students

Western University’s overall acceptance rate sits at roughly 55 to 60 percent, placing it in the moderately selective band for Canadian public research universities. The number hides sharp faculty-level differences: institution-wide selectivity is close to that band, while Ivey and BEng draw far more applicants than seats.

Western Faculty-Level Selectivity for Indian Applicants

  • Ivey HBA (AEO from Year 1): ultra selective; applicants typically present Class XII at 92%+ and strong extracurricular leadership.
  • Bachelor of Engineering: competitive; strong Math and Physics scores at Class XII 85%+ are the norm.
  • Bachelor of Health Sciences: selective; Class XII 85%+ with Sciences.
  • BSc and BA: moderately competitive; admits sit around Class XII 78 to 82%.
  • SGPS master’s programs: selectivity varies by supervisor availability and cohort size; MPH, MMASc and Master of Data Analytics run cohort-capped intakes.

How Indian Applicants Improve Their Odds at Western

Indian applicants who convert Western offers tend to (a) apply well before the Group A equal-consideration date, (b) hit their target IELTS in one sitting rather than several, and (c) submit board-issued mid-term marksheets that clear the faculty percentage floor. See Western’s ranking band for benchmarking against QS 142 and THE 201 to 250 peers.

Canada Student Visa Process for Western University Admissions

Indian students admitted to Western apply for a Canadian Study Permit through IRCC, either under the Student Direct Stream (SDS) for faster processing or through the standard route. SDS requires a valid Letter of Acceptance from Western, a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) of CAD 20,635 (around INR 14.32 Lakhs), upfront first-year tuition payment, an eligible language test score, and (from 2025) a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) issued through Ontario’s cap.

After the study permit is approved, arrivals in London, Ontario must complete on-campus registration, activate their Western OneCard, book the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP), and open a Canadian bank account within the first two weeks. Confirm the current SDS financial threshold on the IRCC page before remitting, since the GIC amount is revised annually.

2026 update: Ontario’s international student cap under IRCC’s PAL system continues in 2026 and 2027. Western’s PAL allocation is reserved for admitted degree-seeking students, so submit your PAL request immediately after accepting your offer.

Tips and Application Checklist for Western University

The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Western over the last two admission cycles. They cover sequencing and judgement calls, not paperwork already listed in Documents Required.

  • Apply by early November 2026 for OUAC 105 even though the equal-consideration deadline is 15 January 2027; earlier files clear supplementary checks faster.
  • Book your IELTS or TOEFL by September 2026 so scores land before your OUAC submission and rebooking remains possible if you miss the band.
  • Request board-issued mid-term marksheets from CBSE or CISCE 8 weeks before you submit; conditional offers hinge on these arriving on time.
  • For Ivey HBA AEO, front-load leadership evidence: verified extracurricular impact matters as much as the 92%+ Class XII floor.
  • Line up two LOR referees by October 2026 and share the Western referee portal link the same day you submit; delays here bottleneck PG files.
  • Draft your SOP against each program’s stated learning outcomes, not a generic Canada study rationale; SGPS reviewers score on programme fit.
  • Send an Ivey MBA application in Round 4 or 5 at latest, since the January 2027 visa runway tightens after November.
  • Lock in your CAD 20,635 GIC and PAL the week your offer arrives; both are gating items for the SDS visa.

Indian applicants targeting Western University should confirm program-specific IELTS floors on the SGPS page, lock in an OUAC 105 slot well before 15 January 2027 for Fall 2027 undergraduate admission, and route Ivey MBA files through the earliest possible round to protect January 2027 visa runway.

Western University Admissions: Frequently Asked Questions

Ques. What is the minimum IELTS score for Western University?

Ans. The SGPS institution-wide floor is IELTS 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0 for most programs. Ivey MBA raises this to 7.0 with 7.0 in each band, and MMASc requires Duolingo 120 or equivalent.

Ques. Does Western University waive IELTS for Indian students?

Ans. Yes. Western waives the English test if you completed four years of full-time secondary school in English, which covers most English-medium CBSE, ICSE and IB students. The waiver does not apply to Nursing, and Ivey MBA requires the test unless English was your first working language for at least two years.

Ques. What Class XII percentage do I need for Western Engineering?

Ans. Bachelor of Engineering admits typically present Class XII at 85 percent or higher, with Mathematics and Physics as compulsory prerequisites. Meeting the floor does not guarantee admission, since Engineering runs a competitive intake capped by faculty seats.

Ques. When does the OUAC 105 application open for Fall 2027?

Ans. The 2027 OUAC cycle opens in September 2026 for international undergraduate applicants using the OUAC 105 form. The Group A equal-consideration deadline for Western is 15 January 2027, and late applications are considered on a rolling basis if seats remain.

Ques. How much is the OUAC 105 application fee for Western University?

Ans. The OUAC 105 application fee is CAD 156 (around INR 10,825) for up to three program choices. Each additional program adds CAD 50 (around INR 3,470), and 105F applicants may also pay a supplementary evaluation fee.

Ques. Does Ivey MBA require GMAT for Indian applicants?

Ans. Ivey accepts GMAT, GMAT Focus, GRE and the GMAC Executive Assessment. Average admit scores sit around GMAT 670 or GMAT Focus 615. Waivers are available for candidates with engineering or science degrees, CFA, CPA or PEng designations.

Ques. How long does Western University take to release admission decisions?

Ans. Undergraduate OUAC 105 decisions begin rolling from February 2027 through May 2027 as Class XII results arrive. SGPS master’s decisions typically arrive 8 to 12 weeks after the program deadline, and Ivey MBA decisions are released within 4 to 6 weeks of each round.

Ques. Can I apply to Western University without a completed Bachelor’s transcript?

Ans. Yes for graduate programs. You may submit interim transcripts and a letter from your registrar confirming expected completion, and Western issues a conditional offer that clears when your final degree certificate arrives. For UG, you may apply with mid-term Class XII marks and clear conditions on Board results.

Ques. What documents do I need for a Western University graduate application?

Ans. A completed SGPS application, Bachelor’s transcripts, IELTS or TOEFL score report, statement of purpose, CV, two letters of recommendation, passport bio page and any program-specific supplements. Financial documents are required at the visa stage, not at application.

Ques. Does Western University accept the Duolingo English Test?

Ans. Yes. The institutional Duolingo floor is 115, with MMASc requiring 120 and specific programs like Civil and Environmental Engineering requiring 115. Confirm the exact minimum on your program’s SGPS page before booking a test slot.

Ques. What is Western University’s acceptance rate for Indian students?

Ans. Western’s institutional acceptance rate sits around 55 to 60 percent. Faculty-level selectivity varies sharply: Ivey HBA (AEO) and BEng admit far fewer applicants, while BA and BSc sit closer to the institutional band.

Ques. Is there a January intake at Western University for Indian students?

Ans. Undergraduate programs at Western open only in Fall (September). At the graduate level, Ivey MBA moves to a January start beginning January 2027, and a small number of SGPS programs accept January or May starts. Most master’s and PhD programs use the September intake.

Overview

There were two strong reasons behind choosing the IVEY Business School for undergoing 1 year program in MBA which can be mentioned here :- 1) The Business School is one of its kind which deploys case learning method in every class apart from teaching from the conventional methodology. It helps you to uderstand the contemporary business world and shapes you to take the challenges ahead. 2) The strong alumni network of the Business School across Canada that would help getting desired job. I my opinion , making out for a job in Canada requires a strong alumni connection

Overview

I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted to do in my life. Originally I wanted to be a dermatologist which would give me the freedom of any undergrad. I was originally accepted to all the universities I applied to for bio or biochem (as I loved bio). I got to thinking and knew bio was not a great degree to have if I didn't get into med school. A friend's relative is an actuary and the more she told me about it as well as when I took grade 12 calculus and fell in love with math I knew it was for me. Western was the only of the 4 schools I applied to where my major wasn't set in stone as well they offered me a 10,000 scholarship.

Overview

I opted for this college because it is well known in my area and a fantastic option for my location. My older sibling came here first. My admissions average was 85% in my top 6 university-level grade 12 courses. The admission process was easy and I only applied to western universities and affiliating colleges.

Scholarship

Yes, I applied for financial aid in high school and during my first semester at university.
