Lakehead University Master of Business Administration (MBA) is a 12-month, full-time master’s programme at Thunder Bay requiring a four-year degree and 70% standing. September 2027 tuition is unpublished; 2026-27 international tuition was C$46,505.01 (INR 31.56 Lakhs), as a prior-cycle reference.

The general MBA integrates finance, marketing, operations, strategy and organisational decision-making through case discussions and experiential projects. It suits applicants seeking broad management development rather than a specialist major.

  • The continuous three-term structure completes the degree within one year while keeping the curriculum academically intensive.
  • Applicants from any discipline can qualify when their degree, quantitative preparation and academic record meet Lakehead’s assessment.
  • The programme develops ethical analysis, communication and integrated decision-making across the principal functions of an organisation.

Current Admission Status

Applications for the September 2027 intake are Open. International student deadline: 1 February 2027.

Lakehead encourages international fall applicants to submit by early December, while the Ontario Graduate Scholarship deadline is 2 December 2026. Complete both files before that funding cutoff.

Lakehead MBA Fees and Living Costs 2027

September 2027 tuition remains unpublished, so Lakehead’s 2026-27 international MBA schedule is useful only for prior-cycle planning. The target fee should not be inferred from it.

Prior-cycle context: The following amounts apply to the 2026-27 full-time international MBA at Thunder Bay and cover its three-term minimum fee structure.

The three-term academic total is calculated because Lakehead publishes a per-term rate and a minimum annual tuition. Verify the target fee on the official MBA fee page.

Cost of Living in Thunder Bay for MBA Students

Lakehead’s 2026-27 calculator estimates 12 months of apartment housing and food for graduate students. These university estimates remain separate from Canada’s study-permit maintenance requirement.

ExpenseMonthly CADMonthly INRAnnual CADAnnual INR
On-campus apartment housingC$694.50INR 47,136C$8,334INR 5.66 Lakhs

Calculated living totalC$1,144.50INR 77,678C$13,734INR 9.32 Lakhs

This prior-cycle planning illustration totals C$63,141.76 (INR 42.85 Lakhs) for the 12-month MBA. The academic portion combines tuition, ancillary fees and books.

UHIP (University Health Insurance Plan) adds C$948 (INR 64,341), while Lakehead’s apartment and food estimate adds C$13,734 (INR 9.32 Lakhs). The illustration excludes travel, visa fees and future increases.

Student perspective

One 2023 MBA account on the student reviews page described housing competition alongside a diverse classroom. Secure accommodation early and treat this as one person’s experience.

These comments are anecdotal and do not replace official Lakehead University data.

ROI reality: The C$63,141.76 (INR 42.85 Lakhs) illustration uses 2026-27 costs, so secure a September 2027 fee quote before committing funds.

Lakehead MBA Admission 2027

Admission requires a qualifying degree, 70% standing and evidence of quantitative readiness through an accepted test or approved alternative. Lakehead assesses the complete file, so meeting each minimum does not guarantee selection.

Academic and Test Eligibility

The September 2027 MBA accepts applicants from different academic disciplines, but its one-year pace rewards prior quantitative preparation. Indian applicants should map every requirement to documentary evidence before submitting.

CriterionLakehead requirementIndian applicant action
DegreeFour-year degree, or three-year degree plus ten eligible half-coursesUpload the degree, transcripts and institutional grading scale
Academic standingMinimum 70%, B or Second Class Upper DivisionTreat 70% as the published benchmark; Lakehead makes the official equivalency decision
GMATMinimum 500 on Lakehead’s published scale; GMAT Focus Edition also acceptedDo not self-convert to the Focus scale because Lakehead publishes no numeric Focus minimum
GREMinimum 300 overall; 35th percentile recommended in each areaUse an in-person test because the at-home GRE is no longer accepted
Application writingStatement of Academic Intent of 750 to 1,000 words and current curriculum vitaeConnect academic history, work evidence, career goals, strengths and weaknesses
ReferencesOptional for the MBAAdd letters only when they contribute specific evidence beyond the transcript and statement

Lakehead may waive the GMAT for defined profiles, including some prior master’s graduates, specified professional designation holders and qualifying Canadian-university graduates. Work experience alone does not earn a waiver.

The BSDP (Business Skills Development Program) provides another route for conditionally admitted applicants with 75% standing or five years of work experience. Its six modules require a 70% average.

Lakehead is placed 1001 to 1200 overall in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027. That institutional result does not rank this MBA or predict its employment outcomes.

English Language Proficiency

Applicants whose previous education does not satisfy Lakehead’s English-medium rule must meet one current graduate threshold. Component minimums matter because a qualifying overall score cannot compensate for a weaker tested skill.

RouteCurrent graduate minimumDecision point
IELTS Academic6.5 overall, with no band below 6.0Use the Academic test; IELTS Online is accepted
TOEFL iBT80 overall on the published 0 to 120 scale, with no component below 19Confirm the applicable scale before booking a test after January 2026
PTE Academic58 overall, with no component below 50Upload the score report for verification
Duolingo English Test120 overall, with no individual subscore below 115Send results electronically to Lakehead
English-medium degreeAt least three full years with instruction and examination uniformly in EnglishProvide official confirmation from the registrar when requested
  • Choose IELTS or PTE when a clearly published current scale reduces uncertainty about test interpretation.
  • Plan preparation around every component minimum because one low band can make the complete result ineligible.
  • Arrange official English-medium documentation early when relying on prior university study instead of a language test.

TOEFL scale check

Lakehead’s current graduate page still publishes the 0 to 120 TOEFL scale, while another university page shows a revised scale. Verify the MBA rule on the official graduate English page before testing.

Tip for Indian students: A 70% degree result satisfies only the published academic floor, so use the statement and quantitative evidence to prove readiness for three continuous terms.

Lakehead MBA Application 2027

The September 2027 application is open, with a programme deadline of 1 February 2027. Funding candidates should complete admission requirements before the earlier scholarship cutoff.

Target-cycle schedule: Lakehead publishes calendar dates but no portal closing time for the MBA or scholarship deadline. The application portal’s timestamp governs, so do not assume an Indian midnight cutoff.

StagePublished dateAction for an Indian applicant
International planning pointEarly December 2026Lakehead encourages international fall applicants to submit a complete file within this window
Ontario Graduate Scholarship deadline2 December 2026Complete the graduate application first because an applicant record is required
MBA application deadline1 February 2027Submit every required document before the portal’s unpublished closing time

Lakehead does not publish a September 2027 interview schedule or decision date for the MBA. Applicants should monitor their university email and application portal because the Faculty of Graduate Studies communicates decisions there.

How to Build the MBA Application

The application should show readiness for an accelerated general-management curriculum rather than merely repeat a resume. Each document must add evidence about quantitative preparation, management judgement or progression toward a defined role.

  • Complete the official graduate application and pay the non-refundable C$125 (INR 8,484) fee before uploading the remaining documents.
  • Use the 750 to 1,000-word statement to connect previous decisions with Lakehead’s integrated management curriculum and one credible post-MBA direction.
  • Arrange transcripts, proof of degree, English evidence and test results under identical name spellings to prevent verification delays.
  • Add optional references only when they validate analytical work, leadership behaviour or professional growth that other documents cannot prove.

An applicant seeking a GMAT waiver should still prepare a complete quantitative case because Lakehead reviews waivers automatically and does not negotiate them. A conditional BSDP route can add summer modules before the MBA.

Application tip: Submit a complete admission file before 2 December 2026 when seeking OGS consideration, rather than relying on the later MBA deadline.

Lakehead MBA Scholarships 2027

The strongest published funding route for an international September 2027 MBA applicant is the Ontario Graduate Scholarship. Lakehead’s current awards system ties the relevant application to a 2 December 2026 deadline.

Current published awards: Both opportunities below use Lakehead’s OGS process, so applicants should not assume the amounts can be combined. Values and deadlines come from the active awards cycle.

AwardValue in CADValue in INREligibility and routeDeadline
Ontario Graduate Scholarship, InternationalC$15,000INR 10.18 LakhsInternational graduate applicants complete the general awards application after creating a Lakehead applicant record2 December 2026
J. Armand Bombardier OGS in BusinessC$15,000INR 10.18 LakhsTwo awards support MBA or MSc Management students with at least 80%; general application enables automatic consideration2 December 2026

The 80% award benchmark is higher than the MBA’s 70% admission minimum, creating a clear separation between eligibility and funding competitiveness. Finish the admission application before entering the awards system.

Lakehead has not published a September 2027 MBA entrance-award amount beyond these current OGS listings. Because target tuition is also unpublished, no award should be converted into a projected net fee.

Student perspective

One MBA reviewer reported missing scholarship consideration after applying beyond the funding deadline. This individual account reinforces using 2 December 2026 as the practical funding cutoff.

Scholarship reality: C$15,000 (INR 10.18 Lakhs) is substantial, but the 80% benchmark and limited awards make a full-cost funding plan essential.

Lakehead MBA Salary 2027

Lakehead publishes no MBA cohort salary, offer rate or sector mix, so a credible return analysis cannot treat university-wide results as programme placements. The closest official evidence has a broader scope.

The university’s 2024-25 report gives undergraduate alumni a 93% employment rate after six months and 96% after two years. It also reports 88% working in degree-related jobs.

Evidence scope: The Lakehead figure below covers university-wide undergraduate alumni, while Job Bank figures describe Ontario’s management-consulting occupation. Neither represents this MBA’s graduate salary.

Source: Lakehead University 2024-25 annual report and Government of Canada Job Bank, NOC 11201, updated 2025.

The Job Bank range shows geography and occupation value, not starting pay or an MBA premium. Ontario’s median should therefore support role research, not a debt-repayment forecast.

Return on Investment for Indian Applicants

The prior-cycle all-in illustration is C$63,141.76 (INR 42.85 Lakhs), before travel and future increases. Because September 2027 tuition is unpublished, the final investment remains uncertain.

  • The missing MBA employment report prevents a defensible payback calculation, so request cohort-level salary and offer data before accepting an unfunded place.
  • The Ontario median is C$44.94 (INR 3,050) hourly for an occupation, so test whether target roles match NOC 11201 before modelling earnings.
  • The 12-month master’s format may support a three-year PGWP, so preserve passport validity and confirm programme eligibility before using that work window.
  • The published OGS value is C$15,000 (INR 10.18 Lakhs), so maintain a full-cost plan until a written award reduces the funding gap.
  • The generalist curriculum has no major, so build role-specific evidence through projects when targeting Canadian employment or an India-return transition.

Take-home pay varies with province, deductions and employment structure. Use the Canada Revenue Agency payroll deductions calculator with an actual offer rather than applying gross Job Bank wages to debt service.

Student perspective

One MBA reviewer described broad, industry-related coursework but limited internship support. Treat this as an individual observation and begin employer research before arriving in Thunder Bay.

ROI reality: The C$63,141.76 (INR 42.85 Lakhs) illustration lacks MBA outcomes, so prove career fit through role evidence instead of assuming salary growth.

Canada Visa for Lakehead MBA Students 2027

Graduates may seek the PGWP (Post-Graduation Work Permit). For eligible master’s degrees of at least eight months, it can last three years. A study permit costs C$150 (INR 10,181), while biometrics cost C$85 (INR 5,769). One applicant must show C$23,448 (INR 15.91 Lakhs) for living expenses, excluding tuition and travel.

  • Confirm the current PGWP duration rule; applicants also need Canadian Language Benchmarks level 7 in all four skills.
  • The Canadian Experience Class requires one year of qualifying Canadian work in the preceding three years, but permanent residence is not automatic.
  • Express Entry has no universal skilled-worker salary threshold, so occupation category, language results, experience and ranking points determine eligibility and selection.
  • Spousal open work permits generally require a master’s programme lasting at least 16 months, so this 12-month MBA does not meet that duration rule.

Read More: Canada student visa process for Indian students

Visa reality: The one-year MBA may support a three-year PGWP, but its duration can restrict spousal work eligibility and does not guarantee permanent residence.

Lakehead’s MBA fits applicants seeking broad management development through an intensive one-year structure rather than a specialist major. Its case work and experiential projects reward clear quantitative preparation. However, unpublished target tuition and missing MBA employment outcomes create a material funding and career-evidence tradeoff. Complete admission before 2 December 2026 when seeking OGS consideration, then obtain the target fee before committing funds.

Lakehead University MBA FAQs

Ques. Is the Lakehead University MBA worth it for an Indian applicant?

Ans. It can fit applicants who need a one-year general-management curriculum and can fund the degree without assuming a placement outcome. The C$63,141.76 (INR 42.85 Lakhs) prior-cycle illustration requires validation because target tuition and MBA cohort salaries remain unpublished.

Ques. Can an Indian applicant enter the Lakehead MBA without GMAT?

Ans. Lakehead automatically reviews defined waiver profiles and may offer the BSDP route to qualified conditional admits. Because work experience alone does not earn a waiver, submit quantitative evidence or an accepted GRE result when the published categories do not fit.

Ques. What should an Indian student budget for the Lakehead MBA?

Ans. September 2027 tuition is unpublished, so no confirmed target budget exists. The 2026-27 illustration totals C$63,141.76 (INR 42.85 Lakhs) for academic costs, insurance, apartment housing and food, excluding travel and future increases.

Ques. When should a September 2027 MBA applicant submit for funding?

Ans. Complete the admission file before the 2 December 2026 OGS deadline rather than waiting for the MBA’s 1 February 2027 deadline. The published C$15,000 (INR 10.18 Lakhs) award value makes the earlier date financially meaningful.

Ques. Does the 12-month Lakehead MBA support post-study work in Canada?

Ans. An eligible master’s degree of at least eight months may support a three-year PGWP under current rules. However, this MBA’s 12-month length falls below the usual 16-month threshold for a student’s spouse to receive an open work permit.

I am loving it . It's a hassle - free life here , with less people and no traffic . Education is going good , so many activities and parties on campus to network and socialize with many people . Help for mental stress. A bit of housing crisis and part time , as it's more competitive and more people are doing more than 30 hours .Had a great international exposure in class , students from different countries - china , Vietnam , India , Canada , Ghana , Nigeria , Turkey , Iran , Myanmar , Bangladesh , japan , Korea etc.
