Laurentian University admissions for Indian students run across three intakes — September, January, and May — with September serving as the primary intake where nearly all undergraduate and graduate programs open. Undergraduate entry needs Class XII at around 65 to 70%, while master’s entry needs a Bachelor’s with at least a B-grade average (about 70%) and IELTS 6.5 overall.
- Next live deadline for the September 2027 primary intake is June 15, 2027, covering most UG and graduate programs.
- Base tuition for international students runs from C$ 30,364 (about ₹ 20.33 Lakhs) for Arts and Sciences UG to C$ 41,042 (about ₹ 27.48 Lakhs) for Engineering; graduate application fee is C$ 100 (about ₹ 6,696).
- UG floor is Class XII at 65%, PG floor is a Bachelor’s at 70%, and IELTS 6.5 with no band below 6.0 is the standard English minimum.
- Institutional acceptance rate is estimated at around 70% based on third-party admissions data; Laurentian does not publish an official figure.
Popular programs among Indian students at Laurentian University include the MBA, Master of Architecture, and MSc Computational Sciences. Applicants typically cite affordable Ontario tuition and post-graduation Work Permit (PGWP) eligibility as the university’s decision drivers.

Laurentian University Application Deadlines for Indian Students
Laurentian University runs three intakes each academic cycle — September (Fall), January (Winter), and May (Spring). September is the primary intake, when nearly every undergraduate and graduate program at the Sudbury campus admits new students. January opens a narrower slate of programs and May is limited chiefly to graduate applicants. Because the Class XII board results in India close in late May or early June, applicants targeting Fall usually plan a full year ahead.
| Intake | Level | Apps Open | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|
| January 2027 (Closing Soon) | Undergraduate | Open now | August 15, 2026 |
| January 2027 | Graduate | Open now | October 15, 2026 |
| May 2027 | Graduate (select programs) | August 2026 | February 15, 2027 |
| September 2027 (Primary intake) | Undergraduate | October 2026 | June 15, 2027 |
| September 2027 (Primary intake) | Graduate | October 2026 | June 15, 2027 |
Several undergraduate programs run separate, earlier deadlines for the September intake because seats fill through competitive review. Indian applicants should plan against the program date, not the general Fall date:
- BScN Nursing: February 1, 2027 for September 2027 entry.
- Bachelor of Architectural Studies: February 14, 2027 for September 2027 entry.
- Indigenous Social Work: March 1, 2027 for September 2027 entry.

Planning note: The January 2027 UG window closes on August 15, 2026 — about five weeks after publication. If Winter start is the goal, transcripts, IELTS results, and financial documents should already be in hand.
Laurentian University Eligibility Criteria for Indian Students
Eligibility at Laurentian works across two thresholds — an academic minimum tied to the level of study and an English proficiency minimum applicable to all programs taught in English. Program-specific floors sit above the university-wide minimums, especially in Nursing, Engineering, Architecture, and MBA.
- UG general entry: Class XII at 65 to 70%, with any prerequisite subject (for example, Mathematics for Engineering or Biology for Nursing) at similar or higher marks.
- PG general entry: a four-year Bachelor’s degree with a minimum B average (around 70% or 3.0 on 4.0 GPA). A three-year Bachelor’s is reviewed case-by-case with WES evaluation.
- Prerequisite subjects: Engineering programs need Class XII Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry; Nursing needs Biology and Chemistry.
Accepted English Tests and Minimum Scores
Laurentian recognises a wide test panel; the standard institutional floors below apply unless a program page lists a higher score.
| Test | Minimum Score | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| IELTS Academic (incl. One Skill Retake) | 6.5 overall, no band below 6.0 | Most common route for Indian applicants. |
| TOEFL iBT | 88 overall | Applies to tests taken before Jan 1, 2026. |
| PTE | 60 overall | Widely used alternative to IELTS. |
| Duolingo English Test | 120 overall, no subscore below 110 | Home-tested; accepted at all levels. |
| CAEL | 70 overall, no part below 60 | Canadian Academic English Language. |
| Cambridge C1/C2 | 176 or higher | Valid for two years from test date. |
Laurentian University IELTS Waiver for Indian Students
Laurentian’s dedicated language requirements page lists specific waivers. Indian applicants who match one of the pathways below can skip IELTS or TOEFL entirely:
- IB English A (Literature or Language & Literature) with a score of 4 or higher.
- Cambridge British Curriculum: O-level English at grade C, or AS/A-level subjects delivered in English.
- Three years of full-time studies at an English-medium institution in a country where English is a dominant language of instruction.
CBSE and ISC Indian applicants are not automatically waived because India is not treated as a dominant-English country under this policy. If academic eligibility clears but the English score does not, Laurentian offers English Academic Preparation (EAP) pathways for conditional admission (Architecture and Nursing are excluded).
Insider note: Test scores must be no older than two years at the point Laurentian receives the application. IELTS results from 2024 or earlier will not be accepted for a 2027 intake.
Laurentian University PG Programs and Eligibility
Laurentian offers 33 graduate-level programs across business, sciences, engineering, health, and humanities. Base master’s tuition ranges from C$ 11,427 (about ₹ 7.65 Lakhs) per year for lower-credit MA programs to C$ 34,732 (about ₹ 23.26 Lakhs) for the MBA — a detailed course-wise fees breakdown sits on the Fees page, with all figures below labelled as base tuition only.
| Programme | Duration | Minimum Eligibility | English Req. Min. |

Laurentian University MBA Admission for Indian Students
The Laurentian MBA at the Faculty of Management runs annually from September only and admits both full-time and part-time cohorts. Business-degree holders can complete a fast-track option in one year (September to July); other applicants complete the full 45-credit program over 20 to 24 months. Annual tuition is C$ 34,732 (about ₹ 23.26 Lakhs).

|---|---|---|
| Round 1 | September 2027 | June 15, 2027 |

MBA GMAT and Work Experience Policy
The GMAT requirement scales with undergraduate GPA per Laurentian’s published table. Indian applicants planning a low-GMAT route should map their percentage carefully:
- A-grade UG (80%+): GMAT 500+.
- B+ (75 to 79%): GMAT 525+.
- B (70 to 74%): GMAT 550+.
- C+ (66 to 69%): GMAT 575+.
- High C (65%): GMAT 600+.
GMAT scores are valid for five years from the test date. Applicants with a minimum of six years of intermediate-level work experience — work involving judgment, originality, and management responsibility — may apply without GMAT.
Laurentian MBA Application File
Beyond the base academic and GMAT thresholds, the MBA file needs three reference forms, a statement of interest, an updated resume, and official transcripts (with WES evaluation for advanced standing). The MBA does not currently list an interview as a mandatory shortlisting step.
Insider note: Ontario labour-market data recognises Laurentian’s MBA within the province’s mid-tier finance-and-mining employer network. Indian applicants targeting mining-finance careers use the fast-track to sit for co-op placements a semester earlier.
Laurentian University PhD Admission for Indian Students
Doctoral admissions at Laurentian centre on Boreal Ecology, Human Studies and Interdisciplinarity, Mining Engineering, Mineral Deposits and Precambrian Geology, and Rural and Northern Health. Applicants must secure a supervisor before submitting the file. Tuition sits at C$ 21,687 per year (about ₹ 14.52 Lakhs) across all PhD programs.
PhD Application Steps for Indian Applicants
- Identify two or three faculty aligned with the intended research theme.
- Email a two-page research proposal and CV; secure written supervisor consent before submitting.
- File the OUAC application before the June 15 (September intake) or October 15 (January intake) deadline.
- Submit the WES-evaluated Master’s transcript along with two academic references.
PhD Funding at Laurentian
PhD funding stacks a Graduate Teaching Assistantship (GTA), scholarship top-ups, and any external awards. The 2025-2026 GTA value for PhD students is C$ 14,547 (about ₹ 9.74 Lakhs), and the university adds a C$ 1,200 scholarship to eligible PhD registrants. Fuller funding options are covered on the Scholarships page for Indian students.
Planning note: Supervisor lock-in is the tightest gate for Indian PhD applicants. Faculty at Boreal Ecology and Mining Engineering typically confirm cohort intake by early October for the following September start.
Laurentian University Application Process for Indian Students
Indian applicants apply through two different channels depending on the level of study — undergraduate applicants use Laurentian’s own international portal, while graduate applicants apply through the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC). Each step below maps to the current cycle.
- Choose the intake and shortlist programs. Verify the program-specific deadline (Nursing, Architecture, and Social Work close months earlier than the general date).
- Prepare English test scores. Take IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, or Duolingo at least eight weeks before the deadline and set Laurentian as the score-receiving institution.
- Set up the application account. UG applicants register on the Laurentian international undergraduate portal; graduate applicants register on OUAC’s graduate application portal.
- Pay the application fee of C$ 100 (about ₹ 6,696) on the Laurentian international portal or the OUAC graduate portal at the time of file submission.
- Upload documents. Transcripts, English scores, WES evaluation (for graduate applicants), passport bio page, and any program-specific artefacts (portfolios, GMAT, statement of interest).
- Track the file on myLaurentian. A student ID and portal access arrive within days of submission; conditional decisions typically follow within four to eight weeks.
Laurentian University Admission Decisions and Offer Timeline
Laurentian follows a rolling review within each intake, so decisions arrive on a first-come basis rather than a single results day. Timelines below reflect the university’s stated cadence for international files.
- Offer letter timing: conditional offers issue within 4 to 8 weeks of a complete UG file and 6 to 10 weeks for graduate files.
- Acceptance deadline: most Indian applicants have 30 days from the offer date to submit the tuition deposit and confirm acceptance.
- Conditional offers: if the offer letter lists conditions (final Class XII marks, IELTS re-take, WES report), meeting them by the stated cut-off is required or "your offer will be rescinded" per Laurentian’s language.
- Letter of Acceptance (LOA) and PAL: paying the tuition deposit unlocks the LOA and Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) required for the Canadian study permit.
- Deferral policy: deferrals are considered case-by-case, typically to the next available intake in the same academic year.

Laurentian University Documents Required for Indian Applicants
Document requirements at Laurentian differ by level, but the base bundle is consistent across every application. All documents must be uploaded in English or accompanied by certified English translations.
- Passport bio page (valid for at least the length of stay).
- Official academic transcripts — Class X, Class XII, and Bachelor’s mark sheets and consolidated transcript.
- Degree certificate (for graduate applicants) or provisional certificate.
- WES evaluation — mandatory for graduate applicants seeking advanced standing.
- English proficiency score report (IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Duolingo, or CAEL) sent to Laurentian.
- Statement of Purpose or statement of interest (mandatory for MBA and graduate programs).
- Letters of Recommendation: two academic referees for master’s, three reference forms for MBA.
- Updated resume/CV for graduate, MBA, and PhD files.
- Portfolio for Bachelor of Architectural Studies and MArch applicants.
- Research proposal and supervisor consent email for PhD applicants.
- Tuition deposit receipt after acceptance, required for LOA and PAL issue.
Before you apply: Indian applicants should book WES evaluation about eight weeks before the deadline, as clearance for verification from Indian boards regularly slips past four weeks in peak season.
Laurentian University Acceptance Rate for Indian Students
Laurentian University does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. Third-party admissions data estimates the overall acceptance rate at around 70%, based on international-applicant patterns at the Sudbury campus and the broader Ontario mid-tier ranking band. Indian applicants who meet the published minima usually receive conditional offers on a rolling basis.
Which Laurentian Programs Are Most Selective?
Selectivity concentrates in professional and clinical streams, where seat counts are capped:
- BScN Nursing: capped intake, Class XII 75%+ with Biology and Chemistry is the working floor.
- Bachelor of Architectural Studies and MArch: portfolio review filters most candidates.
- MBA: GMAT-plus-GPA matrix decides file review order.
Where Indian Applicants Sit in the Pool?
Indian applicants form a growing share of Laurentian’s international intake, particularly in MBA, MArch, and MSc Computational Sciences. Files that clear the published academic and IELTS requirements and submit before the primary intake deadline generally clear review inside the 70% estimate.
Insider note: Rolling review is the acceptance-rate lever most Indian applicants miss — the 70% figure is not spread evenly across the cycle. Files submitted in October or November for the September intake are reviewed against fuller seat inventories than files submitted in April or May.
Canada Study Permit for Laurentian University Applicants
Indian applicants admitted to Laurentian apply for a Canadian Study Permit — the visa category granted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for full-time academic programs longer than six months. The permit application requires the Laurentian Letter of Acceptance (LOA) and the Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) issued by the Government of Ontario, both released after the tuition deposit is paid.
Applicants submit the study permit application on the IRCC portal, upload biometrics through VFS Canada, and demonstrate financial capacity through a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) of C$ 20,635 (about ₹ 13.82 Lakhs) plus proof of first-year tuition. Standard processing for Indian applicants runs 6 to 10 weeks; the Student Direct Stream (SDS) route was retired in November 2024, so Indian applicants now file through the general processing lane. On arrival in Sudbury, students complete on-campus registration and enroll in the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) automatically.
2026 update: Indian applicants no longer qualify for the SDS fast-track. Study permit financial documents should be built end-to-end (GIC receipt, tuition proof, first-year cost of living evidence) before filing.
Tips for Laurentian University Admissions
The following tips are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Laurentian University.
- Target the primary September intake first — nearly every program opens then, and financial-aid math is easier over full-year cohorts.
- File four to six weeks before the deadline to sit in the front half of rolling review and access larger seat inventories.
- Confirm the WES evaluation window before booking the IELTS date, since the WES report gates every graduate file.
- Set Laurentian as the receiving institution at the IELTS or TOEFL test-booking stage — retro-scheduling score reports adds two weeks.
- Contact PhD or MSc supervisors early — most Boreal Ecology and Mining Engineering faculty confirm supervision by early October.
- Retain the tuition deposit receipt — the LOA and PAL cannot be issued until the deposit is processed and reconciled.
Laurentian University admissions reward early filing against the September primary intake, a clean IELTS 6.5 score, and a strong Class XII or Bachelor’s record. Indian applicants who lock supervisor consent (for research master’s or PhD) and clear WES evaluation early sit at the top of the rolling review queue.

Scholarship
- Laurentian university does not provide any scholarships for international students. To the best of my knowledge, none of my batchmates have any scholarships but there is no need to worry if you are doing thesis-based masters; you can avail of scholarships like the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship and OSAP scholarships by the government of Canada to support international students. I don't know much details about it.

- The only university that can provide you a master degree in very affordable tuition and also have a feeling of university environment.
- It is like I am living in very unique environment because I used to be studying in a college where infrastructure was not that much advanced, but now I feel like it's a good opportunity to explore the real university diverse culture. I started to make new friends from different nations and cultures, so this is one of the best things I like the most.
Dislikes
- Actually I wanted to learn French language but I didn't find any classes regarding this, I thought they might offer French classes to all international students for free, but there is nothing like that.
Overview
I haven't finished my graduation yet, but so far I liked the feeling of university.
Overview
First of all, Laurentian gave me $10000 CAD as entrance scholarship was by-far the most my other friends were getting at the time in other universities. I always felt like uni with large classes would throw me off my game in uni and Laurentian has like 20-25 students per lecture. I wouldn't call it the best business program but it's decent enough to find work in Ontario.
Scholarship
Laurentian offered me an entrance scholarship of $10000 CAD based on my performance in grade 12.
Overview
It was a small campus with lots of outdoor activities in the area. It was far enough away from home but not too far that my parents would not be able to visit me. It had smaller classes so you were able to talk with profs and you weren't just another number in the pool.
Overview
It is in my hometown therefore, it is the closest school to me and offered my program. Staying here meant fewer expenses for me and my family so this school was one of the options in my town. There are many other schools in my province but the expenses are extremely high to attend.
