Laurentian University Eligibility for Indian Students
Laurentian University uses an access-oriented admissions model, meaning it admits most applicants who meet its published academic and English requirements without extra ranking or interview steps. Indian students should meet the following minimums, though individual programs may set higher bars.
Laurentian Undergraduate Entry for Indian Students
- Class XII stream: CBSE, ISC, or state board at 65% or higher in your best four academic subjects.
- Subject prerequisites: Mathematics through Class XII for Business, Engineering, and Computer Science, plus Biology and Chemistry for Nursing.
- English proficiency: IELTS 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, TOEFL iBT 88, PTE 60, or Duolingo 120.
Laurentian Graduate Entry for Indian Students
- Bachelor’s degree: Four-year Bachelor’s from a recognised Indian university at 70% or B average in the last two years.
- Program-fit prerequisite: Relevant undergraduate major matching your target Master’s discipline.
- English proficiency: IELTS 6.5 (no band below 6.0), TOEFL iBT 88, PTE 60, CAEL 70, or Duolingo 120.
Laurentian University IELTS Waiver for Indian Students
Indian applicants who studied under specific curricula can qualify for an English test waiver without submitting IELTS or TOEFL scores. The three pathways open to Indian students are:
- IB Diploma: Score of 4 or higher in English A: Literature or English A: Language and Literature.
- British Curriculum (Cambridge/CIE): Minimum grade C in O-level English, or AS or A-level subjects taught in English.
- English Academic Preparation (EAP): Completion of a Laurentian-approved EAP pathway substitutes for direct test scores, though Architecture and Nursing still require test proof.
Standard CBSE or ICSE English-medium schooling without an IB or Cambridge qualification is not typically enough for exemption, so those applicants should plan to submit a valid English test score.
Laurentian University PG Programs and English Scores

Laurentian MBA Eligibility for Indian Applicants
- Degree: Four-year Bachelor’s in any discipline at 70%+, or a three-year Bachelor’s plus a one-year PG diploma.
- Work experience: Preferred but not mandatory, typically 2 to 5 years for competitive applicants.
- GMAT or GRE: Not required, and applications rest on academics, work history, and references.
- English: IELTS 6.5 (no band below 6.0), TOEFL iBT 88, PTE 60, or Duolingo 120.
Laurentian MBA Application and Interview
Applicants submit transcripts, two academic or professional references, a resume, and a statement of intent through the myLaurentian portal. The Faculty of Management may request an online interview for shortlisted candidates before issuing an offer, though it is not a fixed round for every applicant.
Insider note: Laurentian’s MBA is one of the few Canadian one-year MBAs that skips GMAT altogether, so Indian applicants who did not sit GMAT still have a viable Canada route provided their undergraduate scores clear 70%.
Laurentian University PhD Admissions Pathway
Laurentian offers PhD programs in Biomolecular Sciences, Boreal Ecology, Engineering Science, Human Kinetics, and Human Studies and Interdisciplinarity. Base tuition sits at CAD 21,687.48 (about ₹ 15.09 Lakh) per year, and most students receive research funding or teaching-assistant stipends that offset a significant part of costs.
Laurentian PhD Application Steps
- Identify a supervisor: Reach out to potential faculty supervisors with your research proposal and CV before applying, as a matched supervisor’s endorsement is central to admission.
- Submit application: Complete the graduate application through myLaurentian, uploading transcripts, references, a research proposal, and English test results.
- Faculty review: The relevant Faculty of Graduate Studies committee reviews and issues a conditional or unconditional offer.
Laurentian PhD Funding for Indian Students
Most PhD offers include a funding package covering a portion of tuition and living costs through TA-ships and research assistantships. External funding via Ontario Graduate Scholarships is open to Indian students on study permits. For a full list of amounts and eligibility, see the funding for Indian students page.
Planning note: PhD supervisor outreach should begin 6 to 9 months before the intended deadline, so target August to November 2026 for a September 2027 start.
Laurentian University Application Process for Indian Students
Indian applicants apply directly to Laurentian University through its own myLaurentian portal. The Ontario Universities Application Centre (OUAC) route is for domestic Ontario applicants only and does not apply to international candidates. The end-to-end process typically takes 4 to 8 weeks from submission to decision.
- Choose your program: Confirm the program’s specific deadline and prerequisites on Laurentian’s official page.
- Create a myLaurentian account: Register on the myLaurentian applicant portal to start your file.
- Pay the application fee: Pay the application fee of CAD 100 (about ₹ 6,957) on the myLaurentian portal at submission.
- Upload documents: Submit Class XII or Bachelor’s transcripts, English test results, and program-specific extras such as a portfolio for Architecture.
- Track your file: Log back in to myLaurentian to view status, respond to conditional-offer requests, and pay the tuition deposit.
- Accept your offer: Accept online and pay the deposit within the stated deadline, then use the receipt for your study permit application.
Laurentian University Admission Decisions Timeline
Laurentian typically issues an offer within 4 to 8 weeks of receiving a complete file. Offers may be unconditional, conditional (pending final Class XII marks or IELTS), or a deferral to the next intake.
- Offer letter timing: Around 4 to 8 weeks post-submission for complete files.
- Acceptance deadline: Stated on each offer, typically 30 to 45 days from issue.
- Deferral policy: One-time deferral to the next intake is generally accommodated with a written request before the start date.
Laurentian University Documents Required for Indian Students
Laurentian’s document checklist covers all required paperwork after your application is filed. Certified true copies of academic records typically satisfy Laurentian’s verification, and originals are not needed at the application stage.
- Passport bio-page scan valid at least 6 months past intended arrival.
- Class XII marksheet and certificate (attested copy) for UG applicants.
- Bachelor’s marksheets and provisional or degree certificate for PG applicants.
- English test score report (IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, or Duolingo), sent electronically where possible.
- Statement of intent tied to your program choice and career plan.
- Two references (academic for UG and Master’s, mixed academic and professional for MBA or PhD).

- Portfolio for Bachelor of Architectural Studies applicants only.
- Financial proof is not needed at application stage but is required later for the study permit.
Laurentian University Acceptance Rate
Laurentian University does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. Third-party estimates place the figure at around 70%, based on the university’s access-oriented admissions pattern and low waitlist activity for most non-clinical programs. Competitive-intake programs like Nursing BScN and Architecture run tighter than this average.
What the Laurentian Rate Means for Indian Applicants
An estimated 70% rate means most applicants who meet the stated Class XII or Bachelor’s percentage and the English requirement will receive an offer. It is not a lottery. Meeting minimums with clean documentation historically converts to an offer.
Where Laurentian Gets Selective
Nursing BScN, Architectural Studies, Indigenous Social Work, and PhD supervisor-matched programs all run tighter. For these, budget in the earlier deadlines and supplementary requirements like portfolios or referee letters.
Insider note: Indian applicants with Class XII marks between 60 and 65 percent often still succeed at Laurentian by pairing a strong statement of intent with English scores comfortably above the minimum, an option that would fail at more selective Ontario universities.
Ranking context sits on the Laurentian ranking band page, which pairs well with acceptance data when choosing between Canadian options.
Canada Student Visa for Laurentian University Applicants
Indian students admitted to Laurentian University need a Canada Study Permit issued by IRCC before arrival. Applications run through the IRCC portal and typically take 4 to 12 weeks under the Student Direct Stream (SDS) pathway, which most Indian applicants use.
The core steps are to pay the Laurentian tuition deposit and receive your Letter of Acceptance (LOA), buy a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) of CAD 20,635 (about ₹ 14.35 Lakh) as proof of first-year living funds, pay first-year tuition upfront, submit biometrics and a medical exam, then file the study permit application. Post-arrival, register with the university’s international student office within the first two weeks and apply for a Social Insurance Number if you plan to work on campus.
2026 update: Ontario’s intake cap on international study permits stays in force for 2026 to 2027, so Laurentian applicants should file their study permit within a week of receiving the LOA to avoid processing delays at IRCC.
Tips and Checklist for Laurentian University Admissions
The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Laurentian University over the last three intakes.
- Begin 8 to 10 months out: Document backlog is the top reason for missed Laurentian deadlines.
- Book IELTS 3 months early: This allows a retake if you miss the no-band-below-6.0 rule.
- Request transcript summaries early: Sealed direct-from-institution transcripts add 3 to 6 weeks to your timeline.
- Confirm program deadline first: Nursing, Architecture, and Indigenous Social Work close earlier than the general June date.
- Draft your statement around one specialisation: Focused proposals convert better than generic study-in-Canada letters.
- File your study permit within 7 days of LOA: Ontario’s cap makes early filing critical for a September start.
- Line up GIC and tuition deposit before permit filing: IRCC verifies both and mismatches trigger a refusal.
- Budget the tuition deposit at offer stage: Typically CAD 3,000 to CAD 5,000 (about ₹ 2.09 Lakh to ₹ 3.48 Lakh), not full first-year fees.
Laurentian University pairs a low-friction admissions model with January and September openings, giving Indian applicants two realistic windows a year and a Canadian pathway that skips GMAT for MBA. Meeting the Class XII 65% or Bachelor’s 70% floor with clean IELTS scores puts a viable offer within reach.

Scholarship
- Laurentian university does not provide any scholarships for international students. To the best of my knowledge, none of my batchmates have any scholarships but there is no need to worry if you are doing thesis-based masters; you can avail of scholarships like the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship and OSAP scholarships by the government of Canada to support international students. I don't know much details about it.

- The only university that can provide you a master degree in very affordable tuition and also have a feeling of university environment.
- It is like I am living in very unique environment because I used to be studying in a college where infrastructure was not that much advanced, but now I feel like it's a good opportunity to explore the real university diverse culture. I started to make new friends from different nations and cultures, so this is one of the best things I like the most.
Dislikes
- Actually I wanted to learn French language but I didn't find any classes regarding this, I thought they might offer French classes to all international students for free, but there is nothing like that.
Overview
I haven't finished my graduation yet, but so far I liked the feeling of university.
Overview
First of all, Laurentian gave me $10000 CAD as entrance scholarship was by-far the most my other friends were getting at the time in other universities. I always felt like uni with large classes would throw me off my game in uni and Laurentian has like 20-25 students per lecture. I wouldn't call it the best business program but it's decent enough to find work in Ontario.
Scholarship
Laurentian offered me an entrance scholarship of $10000 CAD based on my performance in grade 12.
Overview
It was a small campus with lots of outdoor activities in the area. It was far enough away from home but not too far that my parents would not be able to visit me. It had smaller classes so you were able to talk with profs and you weren't just another number in the pool.
Overview
It is in my hometown therefore, it is the closest school to me and offered my program. Staying here meant fewer expenses for me and my family so this school was one of the options in my town. There are many other schools in my province but the expenses are extremely high to attend.
