Status: Open. Fall 2027 (September) is University of Northern British Columbia’s primary graduate intake, and the first review deadline for the MBA for Sustainable Leadership, MSc Computer Science, MSc Natural Resources and thesis MScN falls on 15 January 2027. The nearest still-open actionable window is the MScN Nurse Practitioner Fall 2027 route closing 15 November 2026. Applications route through EducationPlannerBC, the provincial application platform British Columbia universities use, with international application fees of CAD 125 (around INR 8,454) for undergraduate and CAD 153 (around INR 10,347) for graduate applicants.

University of Northern British Columbia admissions run through EducationPlannerBC. Undergraduates need Class XII with 75 percent English Core, while postgraduates need a First Class four-year Bachelor’s from a recognised Indian university.

  • Fall 2027 (September) is UNBC’s primary intake, with most master’s programs closing 15 January 2027.
  • Base UG tuition around CAD 22,180 (INR 15.00 Lakhs) and PG application fee CAD 153 (INR 10,347).
  • UG eligibility is Class XII English Core 75 percent, PG needs First Class Bachelor’s, IELTS 6.5 minimum.
  • Acceptance rate around 75 percent, one of Canada’s more accessible research universities for Indian applicants.

University of Northern British Columbia Application Deadlines for Indian Students

UNBC’s undergraduate calendar runs a Fall (September) primary intake and a smaller Winter (January) window, while graduate programs run three cycles with Fall as the busiest review. Dates below come from the official University of Northern British Columbia graduate application deadlines page and the undergraduate international admissions page.

Currency note: All INR figures in this article use CAD 1 = INR 67.63, the live rate on 29 September 2026. Live rates may vary, so confirm with your bank before remitting.

UNBC’s primary intake for Indian students is Fall (September), where most graduate programs open and where the Indian applicant pipeline is heaviest.

The Winter 2027 first deadlines have passed, but UNBC keeps a soft international extension aligned with your Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) processing timeline. If your study permit window looks tight, email the graduate office before you file.

Insider note: UNBC does not accept deferrals for the MBA for Sustainable Leadership or the MScN Nurse Practitioner. If you cannot travel for Fall 2027, you must reapply the following year, so plan your Indian passport, biometrics and CAD-denominated funds accordingly.

University of Northern British Columbia Eligibility for Indian Students

Eligibility for University of Northern British Columbia has two floors that Indian applicants read together, an academic floor set by your Indian board or degree and an English-proficiency floor set by IELTS, TOEFL, PTE or Duolingo. English is the medium of instruction across every UNBC campus.

  • UG general entry: Class XII from CBSE, CISCE or a recognised state board, with subject prerequisites depending on the Bachelor’s you pick.
  • PG general entry: a four-year Bachelor’s degree from a recognised Indian university with First Class, Division 1 or a B grade equivalent.
  • PG three-year Bachelor’s route: a three-year Bachelor’s from an institution accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with an A grade or better.
  • Admission GPA rule: from May and September 2026 intakes onward, UNBC calculates the admission GPA on your final two years of coursework.

English-test minimums are set institution-wide and every graduate program uses them as the floor.

English TestOverall MinimumSection Minimum
IELTS Academic6.56.0 in each band
TOEFL iBT9020 in each section
PTE Academic6560 in each skill
Duolingo English Test125115 in each skill

University of Northern British Columbia English Waiver for Indians

UNBC publishes an India-specific English waiver that most CBSE and ISC students already meet.

  • Class XII English Core waiver: a final grade of 75 percent or higher in CBSE or CISCE Class XII English Core satisfies the English requirement.
  • Medium of instruction waiver: five consecutive years of instruction in English immediately before admission, or secondary education completed entirely in English.

If either pathway applies, you skip the IELTS or TOEFL and save on both test fees and the six-week booking wait during peak Indian test windows.

University of Northern British Columbia PG Programs and English Score Requirements

UNBC’s graduate portfolio for Indian students clusters around the College of Business, Computer Science, Health Sciences and Natural Resources. Base tuition for PG programs ranges from about CAD 4,969 (INR 3.36 Lakhs) to CAD 18,469 (INR 12.49 Lakhs) per year depending on discipline, so check the course-wise fees breakdown before you shortlist.

Every MSc research program at UNBC is supervisor-gated, meaning your application will not clear review until a UNBC faculty member has agreed to supervise you. Email prospective supervisors 8 to 10 weeks before the deadline with a one-page research pitch and your CV.

Planning note: The graduate admission deposit is CAD 1,500 (about INR 1.01 Lakhs), and CAD 2,000 (INR 1.35 Lakhs) for the MBA. Deposits are non-refundable and count toward your first-term tuition, so treat them as a real cash-flow line item, not a placeholder fee.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official University of Northern British Columbia graduate admissions page for your chosen program before applying.

University of Northern British Columbia UG Programs and Entry Requirements

UNBC’s Bachelor’s portfolio for Indian applicants centres on Commerce, Computer Science, Nursing and Natural Resources, all delivered at the Prince George main campus with some cohort options at the regional campuses.

ProgrammeDurationMinimum EligibilityEnglish Req. Min.
Bachelor of Commerce4 yearsClass XII with Mathematics, board average acceptable to UNBC RegistrarIELTS 6.5
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science4 yearsClass XII with Mathematics and one Science, program prerequisites metIELTS 6.5
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)4 yearsClass XII with Biology and Chemistry, competitive averageIELTS 6.5
Bachelor of Natural Resources Management4 yearsClass XII with Science subjectsIELTS 6.5
Bachelor of Environmental Science4 yearsClass XII with Biology, Chemistry, MathematicsIELTS 6.5

BScN and Bachelor of Environmental Science both run a limited-seat cohort, so aim to submit well before the 1 March 2027 Fall deadline. UNBC benchmarks Class XII grades against British Columbia’s Grade 12 standard rather than a fixed percentage floor, so a strong CBSE or ISC score in the prerequisite subjects matters more than the aggregate.

University of Northern British Columbia MBA Admission for Indian Students

UNBC runs one MBA route, the MBA for Sustainable Leadership, a full-time cohort program that begins with a mandatory in-person residency in the first week of August at Prince George. There is no part-time or executive variant.

University of Northern British Columbia MBA Work Experience Rule

The MBA is not an early-career program. UNBC requires a minimum of three years of full-time managerial or professional work experience before matriculation, with supervisory duties, budget responsibility or subordinate-coordination scope documented on your CV. If you hold a non-standard undergraduate credential, an exceptional-admission route opens with six years of managerial experience plus a recognised professional designation.

University of Northern British Columbia MBA Interview Stage

UNBC may call shortlisted candidates for an interview by phone, video conference or in-person, especially when exceptional-admission or borderline files are on the table. The interview probes managerial breadth and fit with the sustainable-leadership focus. GMAT and GRE are optional, so most Indian applicants skip both and let their work experience carry the file.

Base MBA tuition is about CAD 16,898 (INR 11.43 Lakhs) per year, the application fee is CAD 153 (INR 10,347), and the admission deposit is CAD 2,000 (INR 1.35 Lakhs). Because there are no deferrals, only apply when you are ready to travel for Fall 2027.

University of Northern British Columbia Application Process for Indian Students

Every UNBC application, undergraduate or graduate, is filed through EducationPlannerBC (EPBC), the provincial post-secondary application service. UNBC does not run a standalone application form, and PDF or email-only applications are not accepted.

  1. Create an EPBC account at the EducationPlannerBC UNBC portal and pick University of Northern British Columbia as your institution.
  2. Select programme, level, and intake, with Fall 2027 recommended for master’s routes that only run once a year.
  3. Pay the application fee of CAD 125 (around INR 8,454) for undergraduate or CAD 153 (around INR 10,347) for graduate on the EPBC application portal.
  4. Upload Class X and XII mark sheets, Bachelor’s transcripts if applying to PG, and your IELTS, TOEFL, PTE or Duolingo score report.
  5. Submit a statement of intent and two letters of reference for graduate programs, and three letters plus a CV for the MBA.
  6. For research MSc programs, forward the supervisor confirmation email to graduate-admissions@unbc.ca so your file can be routed for review.
  7. Track offer status in the EPBC dashboard, and watch your registered email for a conditional offer letter.

Before you apply: EPBC will not let you submit until every mandatory field is complete and every referee has been listed. Line up referees with UNBC-accessible institutional email addresses, since referee links get routed to spam when the address is a personal Gmail.

Admission Decisions Timeline at University of Northern British Columbia

UNBC reviews graduate applications in program-level committees, so decision timing depends on your intake and the department cadence. Undergraduate decisions run faster because they are transcript-driven rather than supervisor-gated.

  • Fall (September) intake decisions: late February through April for Indian applicants.
  • Winter (January) intake decisions: late August through October.
  • Spring (May) intake decisions: late December through February.
  • Conditional offer letter: issued pending final transcripts, degree certificate and English test scores if not already on file.
  • Admission deposit due: typically within two weeks of accepting the offer, and it counts toward your first-term tuition.
  • Deposit amounts: CAD 9,000 (INR 6.09 Lakhs) undergraduate, CAD 1,500 (INR 1.01 Lakhs) graduate, CAD 2,000 (INR 1.35 Lakhs) MBA.

Once you pay the deposit, UNBC issues the Letter of Acceptance and the Provincial Attestation Letter for your Canadian study permit application.

University of Northern British Columbia Documents Required for Applicants

Assemble the paperwork below before you start the EPBC form, since half of the file is upload-based and the graduate side goes to a supervisor for review the moment it is complete.

  • Passport biodata page scan: current, valid for the full study period plus 6 months.
  • Class X and Class XII mark sheets and certificates from CBSE, CISCE or your state board.
  • Bachelor’s transcripts and provisional or final degree certificate for PG applicants.
  • English test score report: IELTS, TOEFL, PTE or Duolingo, unless the Class XII English Core waiver applies.
  • Statement of intent: one to two pages, research or career focus specific to UNBC faculty.
  • Letters of reference: two academic or professional letters for PG, three for the MBA.
  • Curriculum vitae: mandatory for the MBA, listing every role with dates, title and duties.
  • Financial proof: Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) receipt or family bank statement matching the study-permit threshold.
  • Supervisor confirmation email: compulsory for MSc Computer Science and MSc NRES applicants.
  • Digital photograph for your student profile.

University of Northern British Columbia Acceptance Rate for Indian Students

University of Northern British Columbia carries an institutional acceptance rate of about 75 percent, which puts it in the more accessible tier of Canadian research universities. UNBC does not publish a separate Indian-applicant conversion rate, so treat the 75 percent as the overall benchmark.

University of Northern British Columbia Acceptance Rate Drivers

Two structural factors explain the rate. UNBC is a primarily undergraduate research university with a total enrolment near 3,600 students, so the applicant pool is smaller and self-selected. Indian applicants who meet the academic and English floors clear review at a high rate, especially when the file arrives well before the first review deadline. The MScN Nurse Practitioner and MBA routes are the exceptions, both running competitive short-listing on top of the academic floor.

University of Northern British Columbia Indian Applicant Success

Around 17 percent of UNBC’s student body is international, drawn from 40 countries, with India as one of the larger senders. Read alongside the acceptance rate, this signals real capacity for Indian files, not a token quota. See how peer opinion tracks in the Collegedunia ranking band for further context.

Insider note: A higher acceptance rate does not lower the study-permit bar. IRCC visa officers still assess your Statement of Purpose, family funds and ties to India independently, so treat the UNBC offer as step one, not the finish line.

Canada Student Visa for University of Northern British Columbia Admits

Indian admits to UNBC apply for a Canadian study permit through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). UNBC issues the Letter of Acceptance and the Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL), a British Columbia government document confirming a seat within the province’s international cap, and both are mandatory attachments to your permit application. The IRCC study-permit application fee is CAD 150 (around INR 10,145), and biometrics collection at a Visa Application Centre adds CAD 85 (around INR 5,749). Indian applicants must show financial proof covering first-year tuition plus CAD 20,635 (around INR 13.95 Lakhs) in living expenses, the updated IRCC threshold that took effect for study-permit applications from January 2024. Most Indian applicants meet this through a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) of CAD 20,635 with a Canadian bank plus first-year tuition prepayment.

2026 update: The Student Direct Stream (SDS) route Indian students used to file expedited study permits was closed by IRCC on 8 November 2024. Every Indian applicant now files through the regular stream, so expect longer processing and stronger scrutiny of your Statement of Purpose, ties to India, and academic progression.

Tips and Checklist for University of Northern British Columbia Admissions

The following tips and checklist steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at UNBC, mixing timing advice with sequence-critical actions. Follow them in order for a Fall 2027 target.

  • Book the IELTS 10 to 12 weeks before your deadline so a rescore or IELTS One Skill Retake still fits your window.
  • Email prospective MSc supervisors by early October 2026 for a January 2027 file, since Canadian faculty go quiet over the December break.
  • Order Class X, XII and Bachelor’s official transcripts 8 weeks early, and request one sealed copy for UNBC plus one digital verification.
  • Draft the Statement of Intent around a UNBC faculty member’s research, not a generic personal essay, because it is read by the supervisor first.
  • Line up two referees with institutional emails and warn them the EPBC referee link expires after 21 days.
  • Open a GIC of CAD 20,635 with an eligible Canadian bank as soon as the Letter of Acceptance arrives, to speed up study-permit filing.
  • Pay the admission deposit within 14 days of the offer, since the seat releases to the waitlist after that.
  • File the study-permit application at least 12 weeks before intake, and include the PAL, LOA, GIC receipt and Statement of Purpose in one bundle.
  • Read peer sentiment on the Prince George winter in the Collegedunia student reviews from Indian students before you commit.

UNBC admissions reward preparation and clarity, and an Indian applicant who lines up transcripts, supervisor buy-in and GIC funds by December 2026 is in a strong position for the Fall 2027 primary intake. Read this article alongside the Fees and Scholarships silos before you file.

Ans. All applications route through EducationPlannerBC at apply.educationplannerbc.ca/unbc. Create an account, select programme and intake, pay the application fee, upload transcripts and English scores, and submit letters of reference. Ans. The admission deposit is CAD 9,000 (INR 6.09 Lakhs) for undergraduates, CAD 1,500 (INR 1.01 Lakhs) for graduate students, and CAD 2,000 (INR 1.35 Lakhs) for the MBA. It is due within 14 days of accepting the offer and counts toward first-term tuition.

Ques. Can I defer my UNBC admission offer?

Ans. Not for the MBA for Sustainable Leadership or the MScN Nurse Practitioner, which do not accept deferrals. Other programs review deferral requests case by case, usually only for study-permit delays, and you must reapply if your seat cannot be held.

  • There are some Scholarships available for Commerce Students.
  • Till now, I haven't got any Scholarships.
  • I didn't receive any Scholarships yet.
  • I can say that, There are some Scholarships for Master Student, and they typically receives 50-60% of fees as Scholarships, But for Undergraduate its too rarely possible. Master Students from Bangladesh received Scholarships because of they Region and Background and obviously because of there Academics. They require a minimum of 3.5 GPA.
