Ans. No, Christians are not the only ones allowed at CMC Vellore for MBBS. This is one of the most common misconceptions about the college. CMC Vellore does have a unique admission system, but it's not exclusively for Christians: Christian sponsored seats: ~53-55% of MBBS seats are reserved for Christian candidates sponsored by registered church bodies/Christian organisations. These candidates need a church sponsorship letter. Open/All India seats: The remaining ~45-47% seats are open to candidates of all religions via NEET merit. These are highly competitive — CMC open category NEET cutoff is typically 650+ marks. so there are TWO different tracks at CMC: Christian track — lower NEET cutoff (since competition is within Christians only), requires church sponsorship Open track — very high NEET cutoff, no religion requirement CMC Vellore is a Christian minority institution (run by the Christian Medical College & Hospital Society) so the Christian seat reservation is legally protected. but they have never been exclusively for Christians. some of India's finest doctors from all backgrounds have graduated from CMC. if you score 650+ NEET, you can apply for the open merit seats regardless of religion.Read more

Here are the advantages of doing an MBBS from CMC Vellore rather than doing it at AIIMS/JIPMER - CMC Vellore receives a huge patient inflow, which is around 8000 patients per day. CMC offers a wide exposure of rare and common diseases to students during their clinical postings. The faculty is nationally and internationally renowned. The CMC teachers are devoted towards carrying out new research activities, and they are very supportive as well. But in this case, AIIMS and JIPMER are equally good. CMC follows the best protocol system among premier medical institutes in India. It offers the best patient care and a wide range of learning opportunities. The UG hostels at CMC are better than JIPMER and AIIMS . The senior-junior interaction is really good in CMC hostels. By doing an MBBS at CMC, one gets electives in foreign universities and secondary hospital programs (SHP) across India during clinical years . Ans. Though a 2-year bond may seem undesirable for an MBBS student at CMC Vellore, it is quite fair. AFMC has in place a 7-year bond period . In addition to this, several state medical colleges have a bond period as well. I completed a 2 year bond period after my MBBS from CMC Vellore in 2017. The bond period is a great time for learning. It transformed a fresh MBBS graduate like me into a clinician/surgeon. It is the perfect time to decide on MD specialization . During my bond period, I worked for 2 years in a secondary hospital where the patient profiles were very diverse. The hospital I worked at receives patients with MIs, DKA, Strokes, PUOs, CKD, RTAs with polytrauma and head injuries, etc. By the end of my bond period, I had received so much exposure that I knew which PG specialization I wanted to opt for. It is much better than sitting at home and mugging books. Practical knowledge is essential in the field of medicine. My experience has helped shape me as a clinician. Thus, I would suggest you do not regret choosing CMC Vellore because of the 2-year bond period.Read more

Ans. Admission to MBBS at CMC Vellore is solely based on the score obtained by the candidates in NEET UG. CMC Vellore has two quotas for MBBS admission namely Government Quota (50%) and Management Quota (50%). CMC Vellore MBBS Management Quota 50% of the MBBS seats at CMC Vellore will be filled up by the management based on NEET UG scores under three broad categories: Open Category: Any candidates who meet the eligibility criteria can apply under this category based on merit. Minority Network: Eligible Christian students can apply for MBBS under this category. CMC Vellore Staff Quota: Children of eligible members of the staff of CMC Vellore can apply under this category. CMC Vellore MBBS Government Quota 50% of the remaining MBBS seats will be filled by the State Government based on NEET UG scores in the given manner: 30% of the seats will be filled by the State Government based on NEET UG as per the government reservation policy. 20% of the seats will be for the candidates belonging to the Christian minority from the state strictly by the NEET merit list.
