Christian Medical College, Vellore (CMC), was established and maintained by the Christian Medical College Vellore Association. The purpose of the Christian Medical College is to train the dedicated persons to run, manage and provide health care in the spirit of Christ through the mission hospitals. The college offers multiple UG, PG & Doctoral courses focusing on the areas of Medicine, Surgery and Nursing. CMC Vellore Admission is done through entrance examination followed by Interview round. The college also accepts NEET score for admission to MBBS program.
The present town campus was acquired in 1924 and a 267 bed hospital was built. The Christian Medical College, Vellore, began in 1918 when Dr Scudder started training female for the Licentiate Diploma (LMP). The first batch of male students was admitted in 1947 and permanent affiliations to the Madras University was done in 1950.

Registration for admission to CMC Vellore is done through online mode. Those who wish to apply can submit the application form on the official website of institute.
For admission to undergraduate courses, candidate should have passed class 12 in relevant stream with minimum 50% marks. Candidates having graduation degree in relevant discipline with a minimum required marks from a well-recognized university or Institute are eligible to apply for postgraduate courses.
CMC Vellore Admission is done on the basis of entrance exam which is conducted by the Institute. Listed applicants on the basis of their performance in entrance exam will go for interview round. Qualified aspirants in all stages will be considered for admission.
The Institute provides MBBS Program for the duration of 5.5 years. Candidates seeking admission to MBBS need to obtain minimum 60% marks in aggregate at 10+2 level with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English as main subjects.
The selection is done on the basis of entrance exam NEET UG which is conducted by CBSE. Shortlisted candidates on the basis of their marks are considered for Interview round. Final selection is done on the basis of overall performance of the candidate.
Students who have appeared in the entrance test conducted by the CMC Vellore for various UG & PG courses like B.Sc, M.Sc, Allied Health Science courses, can check their result online by following the official website. Final seat is offered to the aspirants, after the declaration of result followed by preparation of merit list & counselling process. Note: Final merit list is stringently prepared for open & sponsored candidates both. After a briefing of the selection list, two separate merit cum waiting lists are prepared in order to fill the remaining seats.
CMC Vellore provides admission to the MBBS programme through NEET. After the declaration of merit list, students have to go through the document verification process.
Note: Sponsored category students of Christian minority have to pass the bible knowledge test of 50 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ’s).
Despite the extensive medical services provided by the hospitals and community outreach, the mission statement makes it clear that CMC’s primary concern is education, training and professional development. There is a commitment to ensure that the cost of education should not be a barrier to anyone desiring to pursue a course at CMC. Students who find it difficult to meet even these low fees are encouraged to apply for scholarships which are available for all undergraduate courses (Medicine, Nursing and Allied Health Sciences). Scholarships are awarded according to economic need and cover all or part of the fees and accommodation costs. Scholarships are available for deserving candidates following an assessment.
Well stocked medical libraries exist in both the hospital and college campuses. Scientific journals, MEDLINE system for literature search, internet and reprographic facilities are available in the libraries. There is a well-organized Medical Records Library in the institution as well as a departmental records system. Facilities are provided in these areas for trainees to conduct retrospective case studies from the records. Library service also includes online access to reading journals.
The town campus houses the main hospital where any of the students can avail medical facilities as per their need. CMC has over 7,600 staff, including over 1,200 doctors and 2,400 nurses. Almost every clinical speciality is catered to. 2600 beds are available for inpatients and over 6000 outpatients are treated daily in the main hospital and in peripheral units.
There are two main campuses - one, the main campus at the heart of Vellore city, and the other at Bagayam, which is about 7 km from the main campus. CMC has over 7,600 staff, including over 1,200 doctors and 2,400 nurses. Facilities for tennis, badminton, basketball, volleyball, football, cricket, hockey and table tennis are available on the campus itself.
