Ans. As a final year MBBS student at CMC Vellore, I can offer you some insights on the benefits of joining CMC. Here are the advantages of doing an MBBS from CMC Vellore rather than doing it at AIIMS/JIPMER - CMC Vellore receives a  huge patient inflow,  which is around  8000 patients per day.  CMC offers a wide exposure of rare and common diseases to students during their clinical postings. The  faculty is nationally and internationally renowned.  The CMC teachers are devoted towards carrying out new research activities, and they are very supportive as well. But in this case, AIIMS and JIPMER are equally good. CMC follows the  best protocol system  among premier medical institutes in India. It offers the  best patient care and a wide range of learning opportunities.   The  UG hostels at CMC are better than JIPMER and AIIMS . The  senior-junior interaction is really good in CMC hostels. By doing an MBBS at CMC, one gets  electives in foreign universities  and  secondary hospital programs (SHP) across India during clinical years . The  internship period at CMC offers more exposure  as compared to other premier medical colleges in India. CMC has a  student governing body system . Ans. The life of an MBBS student at JIPMER is quiet and tiring. Yet, they get to learn and experience new things every day. Their daily schedule looks like this  8 am to 11 am: Lectures 11 am to 1 pm: Anatomy dissection hours 1 pm to 2 pm: Lunch break 2 pm to 4:30 pm: Practicals In the evening some prefer playing basketball, football, hockey, table tennis, and badminton while others order just napping or hitting the gym. Some music lovers go to the band room to play out various symphonies and musicals. A few artist students spend their time participating or practicing for fine arts competitions. September brings in a huge crowd of students from different colleges attending Spandan. It’s a 7 day intercollegiate cultural literary and sports extravaganza that makes the monotonous life of JIPMER students a bit vibrant. October witnesses the Jipmer premier league ied teams of girls and boys. There is also Curie Day which is the annual girls' hostel day celebration. The hostel is open for boys as well and girls perform dance and sing. After all this enjoyment, the exams begin and students are reminded of their primary goal.  January is usually spent at home. In February, students go to Pune for the fest at AFMC -‘Silhouettes’. March brings in the tension of the annual university examinations and everybody can be seen surrounded by books. The seniors organize a wonderful Holi celebration- a cultural night followed by gulaal in the morning to ensure that students don’t succumb to the stress. Ques. What is the difficulty level of JIPMER MBBS entrance exam as compared to AIPMT? Which are the best reference books for JIPMER entrance exam?

Ans. Honestly, there isn't much difference in the level of difficulty of the two papers i.e., NEET and JIPMER. Both the exams are based on NCERT although JIPMER occasionally includes questions out of NCERT Syllabus. JIPMER is relatively easy as most questions are small and simple unlike some complex ones included in NEET.  To prepare for the JIPMER exam all you need to do is go through the previous year's questions, revise your concepts, and formulas, name reactions of organic, and most importantly remain calm throughout preparing for the exam.Read more

Ques. Was language and food major (problems) obstacles for North Indians for an MBBS in JIPMER?

Ans. Honestly, the South Indian food served in Pondicherry cannot be tolerated by North Indians for long because they are not used to the spices and the tamarind. But the bright side is, that Pondicherry has some amazing places serving North Indian and continental food.  I don't think food is a major obstacle for a North Indian MBBS student at JIPMER. Here is what the food at Pondicherry looks like.  The above pic shows scrumptious Bread and Chocolate, Auroville. The restaurants in Pondicherry are amazing so food should be your last concern here. As a North Indian, my friend faced some major language issues, especially at the time of applying for ward leave. Her worst experience was the RHC posting during her internship. She had to interact with people in rural areas who spoke a more complex version of the language. Overall, North Indians might miss their food and interact with their locals but not regret choosing JIPMER despite that!Read more

Ques. How is the girl's hostel of (MBBS) JIPMER?

Ans. A close friend of mine shared a few pictures of her hostel room at JIPMER. This is Curie 1 and the little garden attached to it. My friend enjoyed staying at Curie 1 more than Curie 2 because the life here was more vibrant.  The view from her balcony shows PG men's hostel and the two basketball courts in between The room with the green curtain belonged to my friend and the first door towards the right is the washroom for the set of rooms that are in the corridor This is the wash area with provision for drying clothes This is what her room in Curie 1 looked like as a whole. The rooms in Curie 2 are much bigger.  I hope the pictures helped you get a clear idea of the girls' hostel facilities at JIPMER. Read more

Ans. both KMC Manipal and KMC Mangalore are part of the same Manipal group, but they're different campuses with real differences worth knowing: KMC Manipal (Kasturba Medical College, Manipal): older and more established (est. 1953), stronger brand recognition nationally and internationally large campus, Manipal town has a full student ecosystem with multiple colleges more competitive cutoff — general category NEET cutoff ~600+ better research infrastructure, more publications and funded projects KMC Mangalore (Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore): also a strong college, affiliated to Manipal Academy of Higher Education city location in Mangalore — excellent hospital (AJ Institute + Wenlock govt hospital nearby), good clinical variety slightly lower cutoff than KMC Manipal — more accessible option smaller campus feel compared to Manipal, but genuine advantages of a city location for pure brand and research, KMC Manipal wins. for clinical exposure in a city setting with slightly easier admission, KMC Mangalore is a very respectable choice. if you're getting KMC Manipal — take it. if you're choosing between KMC Mangalore and other unknown private colleges, go Mangalore without second thought.Read more

So the UG college doesn’t really matter when giving your PG entrance.  But it is true that your clinical postings have a bearing on the things you remember when reading your preparation material. Your exposure to clinical signs, diagnosis, radiological findings, and surgical procedures makes you remember things. A dedicated faculty, motivated peers, and hardworking seniors will have a huge impact on you. Good seniors offer tips and tricks on cracking entrance exams. Coming to KMC Manipal, it is a premiere institute. It is at par with most government medical colleges. The alumni of this college can vouch for its good academics and campus life.  You’ll have to prepare for your PG with efficiency and diligence. Your UG college won’t have much of a role in this regard. KMC Manipal is a good choice for an MBBS, and it will offer you all the facilities and exposure. Read more

Ans. These are the books I and my peers used as KMC Mangalore MBBS students- For first year- Anatomy : Gray’s (Recommended); B.D. Chaurasia; Netter’s Atlas (must have).  Physiology : Guyton (Recommended); A.K.Jain (not as good as Guyton); Manipal Manual of Physiology (only to pass, last resort).  Biochemistry : Satyanarayan; Beena Shetty (only to pass, last resort). Embryology : Inderbir Singh Neuroanatomy : Snell (For Neuroanat). For second year- Pathology: Robbin’s (This is the only book you need for this subject). Microbiology: Ananthanarayan(Fungus, Virus and Immunology is really good).  Pharmacology : Tripathi (Massive, but required for entrance); Shanbag (only to pass). Forensic Medicine and Toxicology : Pillai (Really good book on this subject). For third year- Community Medicine : Park  Ophthalmology: Khurana (Last minute study) ENT : Dhingra For fourth year: Medicine : Davidson (MUST HAVE, MUST READ); Harrison; Archit Sir (this book is really helpful). For Practical - Macleod’s. Some students use Harrison or Arup Kumar Kunda (this book helps with probable viva questions). Surgery : Bailey (The BIBLE of Surgery); SRB. Some students use Clinical Pearls of Surgery OBG : Dutta ( Always for Obstetrics); Sheila Gyn - Shaws( Recommended) Pediatrics : Ghai and class notes Orthopedics : Maheshwari. Ans. As a student of KMC Manipal, I will list down some reasons for choosing this college- The quality of education at KMC Manipal is at par with other top medical colleges of India. It has a very good infrastructure, even better than PGI which is an elite institution. You’ll get studious peers and dedicated faculty over here. Other than the curriculum, you’ll also be taught about all the latest developments in medicine. You’ll get good clinical exposure. KMC Manipal encourages undergraduate research. You can publish papers as a UG student too. The college has good foreign exchange programs. Your seniors will guide you on USMLE and PLAB.  The coursework and teaching methodology is top-notch. With proper attention in class and routine revisions, you can get into AIIMS for your PG. Even for coaching, DAMS and Bhatia Classes are available near the campus. They hold weekend classes so your college studies won’t be affected. The college and hospital are quite safe. The classrooms and hostels are filled with all the facilities. Extracurriculars form an important part of campus life. The college is very strict regarding attendance, so you’ll grow into a disciplined doctor. Unlike many government colleges, KMC Manipal doesn’t have a rural service bond. But there are some disadvantages too- Manipal is very expensive, and the PG seats are even more expensive. Getting a PG seat is very difficult because of extremely high competition. You should choose KMC Manipal over an above average government college. Ans. For the batch of 2023-24, the first installment is Rs.17.80 Lakhs. The remaining installments add up to Rs. 70,88,500. This includes tuition and other fees.  So, for your medical degree, you’ll be paying around Rs. 88,68,500. This is for Indian students. You will be paying the fees in 5 installments. You’ll also be paying a caution deposit of Rs.10,000 (refundable). For girls’ hostels, the cost is Rs. 1,30,500 per year, and for boys’ hostels, it is Rs. 1,25,500 per year.  This is the total MBBS course fee at KMC Manipal. Read more
