GMC Nagpur Admission Process

All programmes at GMC Nagpur admit candidates through merit in national entrance examinations. No management quota or direct admission path exists at any level.

MBBS Admission

Candidates must have cleared 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology or Biotechnology, with a minimum aggregate of 50% in PCB for General and EWS candidates (40% for SC/ST, 45% for OBC and PwD). The minimum age is 17 years by 31 December of the admission year.

Selection is entirely through NEET UG rank. Maharashtra domicile is mandatory for state quota seats. Admission proceeds through two parallel counselling streams: MCC counselling (mcc.nic.in) for the 50% AIQ seats and State CET Cell (cetcell.mahacet.org) for the 50% Maharashtra State Quota. Both streams involve online registration, choice filling, seat allotment, and document verification at the college before the fee payment deadline.

MD and MS Admission

Candidates must hold an MBBS degree from an NMC-recognised college and must have completed the mandatory one-year rotatory internship by the date specified in the NEET PG notification. The qualifying percentile is 50th for General and EWS candidates, 40th for SC and ST, and 45th for PwD.

Seat allocation is split 50% AIQ (MCC counselling) and 50% Maharashtra State Quota (State CET Cell). MD covers 16 specialisations including General Medicine, Paediatrics, Pathology, Radiodiagnosis, Psychiatry, and Dermatology. MS covers 5 specialisations: General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, and ENT.

DM and M.Ch Admission

DM (Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Interventional Radiology) and M.Ch (Paediatric Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Urology) require a valid NEET SS score. Candidates must hold the relevant MD or MS degree and must have completed their PG residency. All seats in these super-speciality programmes are allocated through MCC counselling (100% AIQ).

Allied Health Programmes

BPT, BOT, and B.Sc Nursing admit candidates through NEET UG merit via the State CET Cell. B.Sc Paramedical programmes admit candidates on the basis of 10+2 PCB merit, managed by the college directly. MOT and MPT (PG allied health) require the relevant UG degree with the stipulated percentage and are filled through a state-level process.

GMC Nagpur Placements and Career Outcomes

MBBS graduates complete a one-year compulsory rotatory internship at GMCH, earning a monthly stipend of INR 18,000 under Maharashtra government norms (2025 rate). Around 20 to 40 students per batch qualify for MD or MS seats in their first NEET PG attempt.

Which college is better, AIIMS Nagpur or GMC Nagpur?

Advait JoshiLives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

In order to determine, which of the two; AIIMS Nagpur and GMC is better, I have listed the pros of the two institutes individually. Go for the institute that appeals to you the most.

Pros of GMC Nagpur

  • GMC Nagpur delivers top-quality education and has a top-notch lab equipped with the latest instruments.
  • It is the largest medical college in Asia. The campus is surrounded by greenery and has a pleasant ambiance.
  • There are separate opds and wards for most of the departments.
  • GMC Nagpur has a huge patient inflow and is large and managed by a good number of resident doctors
  • Gmc Nagpur has its own Trauma center and Superspeciality hospital in addition to wards for TB and infectious diseases.
  • There are separate hostels for both boys and girls with all the general amenities.
  • GMC Nagpur has its own ground for sports and other recreational activities.

It certainly is a decent choice for pursuing Mbbs,MS,MD etc .

Pros of AIIMS Nagpur

The AIIMS tag in itself carries huge weightage.

  • AIIMS is known for its strong focus on clinical aspects rather than theoretical aspects.
  • The plans for building its campus seem very promising in the near future.
  • Good hostel facilities are available for both boys and girls.
  • However, AIIMS Nagpur is dependent on GMC Nagpur for a lot of things such as campus facilities.

I would always suggest you go for GMC Nagpur as it has better facilities than AIIMS Nagpur and seems more promising.
