The full fee is INR 1.65 Lakhs for three years, which is INR 55,000 a year on a government seat. The one-time development fee of INR 5,000 takes it to INR 1.70 Lakhs. Which Lateral Entry B.E. branch should you pick at KCE?

Branch
Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE)
OC close 88.40 marks in 2025. 120 first-year seats. NBA accredited.
Pick it if:
You want a core electrical job but want IT kept open: the department says its graduates work at Wipro, Infosys, TCS and Zoho as well as in power and automation firms.
You like test rigs and simulation tools: EEE has a LabVIEW Academy set up with National Instruments, plus power electronics and power system simulation labs.
Your OC average is 88.40 or more: that cleared EEE in 2025, the highest OC close of the five branches here.
Skip it if:
You expect an easy seat because EEE is a core branch: its 2025 OC close of 88.40 marks was the toughest of the five, above CSE and ECE.
You are BC and your average is below 83.74: that was the BC close for EEE in 2025, the highest BC close at KCE.
Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE)
OC close 82.44 marks in 2025. 180 first-year seats. NBA accredited.
Pick it if:
You want chip design, embedded or network work: ECE has VLSI, DSP, microwave and networks labs, and students intern at firms like Walmart and at DRDO.
Your OC average sits between 82.44 and 88.40: ECE closed at 82.44 in 2025, so ECE is open to you even where EEE is not.
You want a big class with many seniors: ECE has 180 first-year seats, the joint largest with CSE.
Skip it if:
You plan to wait for the supplementary round: only one ECE seat, for an SC student, was left after round 1 in 2026.
You want pure software from day one: ECE is built on circuits and communication subjects, and KCE's coding training for placements comes only in semester 6, for every branch.
Computer Science and Engineering (CSE)
OC close 81.83 marks in 2025. 180 first-year seats. NBA accredited.
Pick it if:
You want an IT or software job: the department has tie-ups with IBM, Oracle, Microsoft, Red Hat and Infosys and holds weekend courses with them.
Your OC average is 81.83 or more: that cleared CSE in 2025, lower than the ECE, Mech and EEE closes.
You want lab time on company platforms: CSE has an IBM lab, an Oracle lab and its own block for computer science and IT.
Skip it if:
You hope a seat opens in a later round: every CSE seat was taken in round 1 of 2026, so nothing was left for later rounds.
You are BC with an average below 76.26: that was the BC close for CSE in 2025, so list a second branch below it.
Mechanical Engineering (Mech)
OC close 83.37 marks in 2025. 120 first-year seats. NBA accredited.
Pick it if:
You want a plant or design job with a Coimbatore firm: the department lists CRI Pumps, Kone, Wabco, Brakes India and Delphi TVS among its recruiters.
You like making things with your hands: Mech has a composites centre, a 3D printing lab and a fabrication lab, plus drone and robotics clubs.
Your OC average is 83.37 or more: that cleared Mech in 2025, and the MBC close was 78.18.
Skip it if:
You hope a seat opens in a later round: every Mech seat was taken in round 1 of 2026.
You want a software job without coding practice: Infosys, TCS and Zoho are on the Mech list too, but they hire through the same aptitude and coding tests as every branch.
Civil Engineering (Civil)
OC close 74.71 marks in 2025. 60 first-year seats. NBA accredited.
Pick it if:
Your OC average sits between 74.71 and 81.83: Civil was the only branch here that closed below 81.83 for OC in 2025.
You want site, survey or structural work: the department has tie-ups with construction firms for training and 8 labs, from soil testing to concrete and highways.
You want a small class: Civil has 60 first-year seats, the smallest of the five branches.
Skip it if:
You are SC and want last year's SC close: no SC seat closed in Civil in TNLEA 2025, so there is no SC mark to check against.
You pick Civil only to save money: it costs the same INR 1.65 Lakhs as every other branch, so the fee gives no reason to pick it.
Counsellor's advice
If your average clears 88.40 on an OC seat, list the branch you want most first, since every branch is open to you. If it sits between 74.71 and 81.83, put Civil first, because it was the only branch that closed there.
Lateral Entry B.E. Eligibility▾

Same rule, every branch: All five branches use the same marks rule; only the closing marks differ by branch.

B.Sc students: KCE adds two engineering subjects in semesters 3 and 4 to fill the gap.

PSG Tech has the higher median pay, INR 7.5 LPA, but a lower placement rate and fewer lateral students. If your average clears its close, take it; if not, KCE places a larger share.
In short
KCT takes more lateral students and places a similar share, but its median pay is lower at INR 4.5 LPA. If both offer your branch, KCE pays more in the middle of the batch.
In short
SKCET beats KCE on median pay and placement rate for the same government-seat fee. If your average clears its close, list SKCET above KCE.
In short
SREC matches KCE's placement rate with a slightly lower median pay and fewer students placed. If both are open, let the branch you want decide.

FAQs on KCE Lateral Entry B.E.

Short answers to what students ask before they apply.

How do I get a lateral entry B.E. seat at KCE?▾
Apply on TNLEA in June with your diploma or B.Sc marks. After the online certificate check and the rank list, list KCE's branches in your choice order during online counselling. Confirm the allotment, pay the fee and report at KCE.
Is the fee the same for every branch?▾
Yes. On a government seat you pay INR 55,000 a year, or INR 1.65 Lakhs for three years, in every branch, because all five branches are NBA accredited.
Which branch is the easiest to get?▾
Civil. Its OC seat closed at 74.71 marks in TNLEA 2025, while every other branch closed at 81.83 or higher.
Can I apply with a B.Sc instead of a diploma?▾
Yes, if Maths was one of your B.Sc subjects and you have the same 45% or 40% average. B.Sc holders get their own TNLEA round, and KCE adds two engineering subjects in semesters 3 and 4.
Does pay differ by branch?▾
KCE does not publish pay by branch. NIRF data gives one median of INR 5.8 LPA for all B.E. and B.Tech graduates of 2025, with 87% placed.
Can SC and ST students study here for free?▾
Yes, if the family earns up to INR 2.5 Lakhs a year. The post-matric scholarship pays the full INR 55,000 a year, and you apply for it through KCE after you join.
Does KCE take lateral students in other branches?▾
Yes. TNLEA 2026 also listed Electronics Engineering (VLSI Design and Technology), CSE (Cyber Security), and the B.Tech branches IT and AI and Data Science at KCE.
Is there a hostel for lateral students?▾
Yes. KCE has separate boys and girls hostels inside the campus with room for 3,260 students. The hostel fee is not on the college site, so ask the office before you pay.
