The B.Tech in Electronics Engineering at Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipal is a full-time, 4-year on-campus undergraduate program (8 semesters) that trains students in the design, analysis, and application of electronic systems across diverse domains. What makes this program distinctive is its structured specialization model: every student must choose one of four specializations - Biomedical Engineering, Cyber-Physical Systems, Instrumentation, or VLSI Design and Technology - at the beginning of the 2nd year, and the degree is awarded with the chosen specialization. The total fees for the program are approximately Rs. 20,54,000 (4 years including caution money), with an annual fee of Rs. 5,11,000. Admission is through the Manipal Entrance Test (MET), and the program is popular for its strong industry connections with companies like Intel, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, NVIDIA, Siemens, GE HealthCare, and Bosch, among others.

Admissions for the 2026-27 academic year are currently in progress. The MET Phase 1 exam was held on April 13-14, 2026 (registration closed March 15, 2026). MET Phase 2 is scheduled for May 23-24, 2026. Counselling is expected to commence in the 2nd week of June 2026. The tentative course commencement date is April 26, 2026.

Key Points

MIT B.Tech Electronics Engineering FAQs

Ques. Is it mandatory to choose a specialization in B.Tech Electronics Engineering at MIT Manipal?

Ans. Yes, it is mandatory. Unlike some other programs where specialization is optional, all students admitted to B.Tech Electronics Engineering at MIT Manipal must choose one of the four specializations: Biomedical Engineering, Cyber-Physical Systems, Instrumentation, or VLSI Design and Technology. The choice is made at the beginning of the 2nd year based on 1st year CGPA, and the degree is awarded with the specialization name (e.g., B.Tech in Electronics Engineering - VLSI Design and Technology).

Ques. Which specialization in B.Tech Electronics Engineering at MIT Manipal has the best placement prospects?

Ans. VLSI Design and Technology is currently the most in-demand specialization, given the global semiconductor industry boom and India's National Semiconductor Mission. Companies like Intel, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, NVIDIA, AMD, Synopsys, and Cadence actively recruit from this specialization. Biomedical Engineering is also gaining traction with companies like GE HealthCare, Philips, Siemens Healthineers, and Medtronic. MIT Manipal: 2 Answered Questions

What is the total expenditure for a BTech course in Manipal Institute of Technology, Karnataka?

Sapna Malik
Shyam VermaComputer Science, and Engineering, MIT Manipal

Here is a rough estimate of the total expenditure for a BTech course at MIT Karnataka.

  • Total Tuition Fees ( BTech): INR 18.62 Lakhs
  • Hostel + Mess fees: Around 4–5 Lacs depending on the hostel you choose
  • Travel expense: On average you will be spending 750-1000 per month. So the cost of a 9-month stay for 4 years will be 1000*36= INR 36000
  • Travel expense from home to college: This varies from person to person because if you live far away, you will have to travel by airplane. Assuming, you will be taking 4 trips a year, the cost will be around 1 Lakh.
  • Misclieous Expenses: Around INR 5000 per month. So 5000 x 9 x 4 = 180000 INR.

The above estimate does take into account the money you spend partying or going on trips. Also, it's important to note that the above estimate is purely based on my speculations and may vary from person to person.

Which one is better for a BTech course: BITS Pilani or Manipal Institute of Technology Karnataka?

Bidita GhoseLives in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India

It's highly illogical to compare a Tier-1 engineering college like BITS to a Tier-2 university like Manipal Institute of Technology.

One cannot compare universities like Manipal, VIT, SRM, Jaypee, Amity, etc. to IIT, NIT, and BITS. These colleges have no brand value of their own and most of the people coming here are those who failed to qualify for competitive exams like JEE/BITSAT/AIEEE/etc. Moreover, the exposure and opportunities offered at BITS are unmatched. It's probably the only private engineering college that enjoys excellent global recognition too.

Irrespective of the branch you go for, the BITS Pilani degree has similar value everywhere. The BITS alumni network is great with some of them being co-founders of Redbus, Hotmail, etc.

Here is a brief comparison of these institutes
