MIT M.Tech Microelectronics FAQs

Ques. Is GATE mandatory for admission to M.Tech Microelectronics at MIT Manipal?

Ans. No, GATE is not mandatory. Admission is primarily through MET (Manipal Entrance Test). However, candidates who have qualified GATE under the General category receive additional weightage in the merit list, which can improve their chances of getting a seat. So while GATE is not compulsory, having a good GATE score is advantageous.

Ques. What is the actual total cost of studying M.Tech Microelectronics at MIT Manipal, including hostel and living expenses?

Ans. The total academic fee is Rs. 4,48,000 for 2 years. If you opt for the cheapest hostel (Non-AC Double room), it costs approximately Rs. 97,500 per year, totalling Rs. 1,95,000 for 2 years. Mess charges are separate and typically range from Rs. 40,000-60,000 per year. So the total estimated cost including hostel and mess would be approximately Rs. 7-7.5 lakhs for the entire 2-year program.

Ques. What kind of companies recruit M.Tech Microelectronics graduates from MIT Manipal?

Ans. Graduates from the Microelectronics program are recruited by companies in the semiconductor, VLSI, embedded systems, and electronics domains. MIT Manipal: 2 Answered Questions

What is the total expenditure for a BTech course in Manipal Institute of Technology, Karnataka?

Sapna Malik
Shyam VermaComputer Science, and Engineering, MIT Manipal

Here is a rough estimate of the total expenditure for a BTech course at MIT Karnataka.

  • Total Tuition Fees ( BTech): INR 18.62 Lakhs
  • Hostel + Mess fees: Around 4–5 Lacs depending on the hostel you choose
  • Travel expense: On average you will be spending 750-1000 per month. So the cost of a 9-month stay for 4 years will be 1000*36= INR 36000
  • Travel expense from home to college: This varies from person to person because if you live far away, you will have to travel by airplane. Assuming, you will be taking 4 trips a year, the cost will be around 1 Lakh.
  • Misclieous Expenses: Around INR 5000 per month. So 5000 x 9 x 4 = 180000 INR.

The above estimate does take into account the money you spend partying or going on trips. Also, it's important to note that the above estimate is purely based on my speculations and may vary from person to person.

Which one is better for a BTech course: BITS Pilani or Manipal Institute of Technology Karnataka?

Bidita GhoseLives in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India

It's highly illogical to compare a Tier-1 engineering college like BITS to a Tier-2 university like Manipal Institute of Technology.

One cannot compare universities like Manipal, VIT, SRM, Jaypee, Amity, etc. to IIT, NIT, and BITS. These colleges have no brand value of their own and most of the people coming here are those who failed to qualify for competitive exams like JEE/BITSAT/AIEEE/etc. Moreover, the exposure and opportunities offered at BITS are unmatched. It's probably the only private engineering college that enjoys excellent global recognition too.

Irrespective of the branch you go for, the BITS Pilani degree has similar value everywhere. The BITS alumni network is great with some of them being co-founders of Redbus, Hotmail, etc.

Here is a brief comparison of these institutes
