Should you pick MBA Finance and HR at SJEC?

This course suits students who want a finance or HR job in coastal Karnataka and are fine with a small first salary.

Pick it if:
You want a finance job in lending or banking: Bajaj Finance hired 27 students from the 2022 to 2024 batch, more than any other company.
You want Finance and HR together: in semester 3 you pick two finance and two HR electives, such as tax management and recruitment and selection.
You have a Karnataka PGCET rank near 5,641: a KEA seat costs much less than a management seat, so try the KEA route first.
You want a bank job near home: Karnataka Bank, which has its head office in Mangaluru, and ESAF Small Finance Bank have hired from recent batches.
Skip it if:
You are counting on a high first salary: the median pay was INR 4 LPA in 2025, and many offers were sales jobs.
You expect almost everyone to get placed: 54 of 115 graduates were placed in 2025, down from 72 of 121 the year before.
You need a cheap room with an attached bath: only the common room is cheap, and the hostel fee goes up by 10% in year 2.
You plan to wait for many KEA rounds: KEA has asked the Supreme Court for extra rounds, so later rounds are not certain this year.
Counsellor's advice
If KEA gives you SJEC in round 2 on a General rank, take it and pay the fee. If only a management seat is open, weigh its INR 2.52 Lakhs year 1 fee against the median pay.

In short
Sahyadri placed 70% of its 2025 batch against 47% here, at about the same median pay, but its closing rank was tougher. If your rank clears Sahyadri, list it above SJEC; if it clears only SJEC, take this seat.
In short
Alva's placed more of its 2024 batch and its closing rank is much easier. If your rank misses SJEC in round 1, keep Alva's below SJEC in your options as the safer seat.
In short
VVCE costs more for a KEA seat at a similar closing rank, and its last published pay is from 2023. If you live near Mangaluru, SJEC is the cheaper seat; if you want Mysuru, compare the fee first.
In short
SJCE Mysuru costs less and paid a higher median, but its closing rank is much tougher. If your rank clears SJCE, put it above SJEC; if it does not, SJEC is the better seat in reach.

Fees and pay can change. Check each college site before you decide.

FAQs on SJEC MBA Finance and HR

Straight answers to what students ask before they decide.

Is the SJEC MBA in Finance and HR worth the fee?▾
Yes, if you get a KEA seat. The full fee without hostel is INR 2.33 Lakhs and the Class of 2025 had a median pay of INR 4 LPA, so the fee comes back in about one working year. A management seat costs far more, so check the fee block above before you pay.
What job can I get after this course?▾
Most offers are in lending, banking, insurance and sales. Bajaj Finance took 27 students from the 2022 to 2024 batch, and banks such as Karnataka Bank and ESAF Small Finance Bank also hired. HR offers are fewer, so build an HR internship in semester 4 if you want an HR job.
Should I take a management seat if KEA does not give me one?▾
Only if you can pay without a big loan. A management seat costs INR 2.52 Lakhs in year 1 alone, against a median pay of INR 4 LPA. Wait for the KEA rounds first, and take a management seat only after you compare it with other KEA seats in your list.
Who should not take this course at SJEC?▾
Skip it if you want a high first salary or a big-city job market. The median pay was INR 4 LPA in 2025, and only 54 of 115 graduates were placed. If placement matters most to you, keep a college with a higher placement rate above SJEC in your options.
Is Finance and HR better than Finance and Marketing here?▾
Pick Finance and HR if you want a bank, finance or people job inside a company. Pick Finance and Marketing if you are fine with sales jobs, because most recent offers here were sales or lending roles. You choose the electives only in semester 3, so you can decide after year 1.
Will I get a placement if my grades are average?▾
Not for sure. In 2025, 54 of 115 graduates were placed, which is 47%, down from 72 of 121 the year before. Keep your marks steady, do the internship of at least 8 weeks well, and apply off campus too, because campus offers do not cover the whole batch.
Is this course good for higher studies or research?▾
It can be, but it is built for jobs. The course has a project in semester 3 and semester 4 and an internship, which help a research application. If you plan a Ph.D. later, pick a project guide in semester 3 and ask the department about its research work early.
Should I wait for KEA round 2 or take another seat now?▾
Take a safe seat now if round 1 gave you one you like. KEA has asked the Supreme Court for extra rounds, so later rounds are not certain this year. If you still want SJEC, keep it high in your options and change the order before 15 Oct 2026.
Is my PGCET rank safe for a KEA seat here?▾
Use the 2026 round 1 close as the safe number. The General seat closed at rank 5,641 in round 1, and in 2025 the last round reached 7,828. If your rank is close to these numbers, check the rank checker above for your category and keep a safer college in your list.
How do I get admission to this course?▾
Write the Karnataka PGCET and enter SJEC MBA (KEA code B300) in your KEA options. KEA allots the seat on your rank, and you pay the fee at KEA by the last date. Then report at SJEC with the admission order and your original marks cards.
What is the full fee for the course?▾
The full 2-year fee for a KEA seat is INR 2.33 Lakhs without hostel. With hostel and mess in the common room it comes to INR 3.76 Lakhs. The year 2 fee is not out yet, so the fee block above counts the year 1 fee twice.
Can I pay the fee in parts?▾
You pay the fee year by year, not all at once. The tuition fee goes to KEA when you take the seat, and the rest goes to SJEC when you report. The fee sheet lists no smaller parts, so ask the accounts office before you report if you need one.
Do I get the fee back if I leave the seat?▾
It depends on when you leave. SJEC follows the UGC fee refund rules, which give back the full fee up to a cut-off date, minus a small processing fee. Ask the office for this year's cut-off date before you pay, and leave before it if you plan to move.
Are there scholarships for this course?▾
Yes, for some Karnataka students on a KEA seat. SC and ST students with family income below INR 2.5 Lakhs get the tuition fee covered, and Category 1 students below that income get INR 40,000 off the course fee. Use the scholarship calculator above to see what fits you.
