Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune, Maharashtra is one of the oldest and one of kind educational institute in India that imparts education about work spheres such as agriculture, water resources, atmospheric sciences, monsoon predictions and the like. It has been popular to works as a national center for applied research in monsoon meteorology. The college was established to work towards the mission of being a world center to conduct basic research in the ocean-atmosphere climate system required for improvements in weather and climate forecasts. The Institute is an extension of the Indian Meteorological Department.
