Ques. How are XLRI, XIMB, and XIME related? Does XLRI plays any role with XIMB or XIME in placements?

● Top Answer By Karan Luthra on 16 Apr 21

Ans. These three share the name of Xavier. It is due to the fact that they were all founded and established by the same Jesuit group.  There is an exchange of faculty between XLRI and XIMB on a visiting, as well as a permanent basis.  Although, the placements of all of these colleges, namely XLRI, XIMB, XIME are in any case totally separate. XLRI does not have any role in the respective placements of either XIMB or XIME.  The table below gives a brief overview of the three institutes. Parameters  XIMB Bhubaneswar XLRI Jamshedpur XIMB Bangalore Ranking 31st by NIRF (MBA) 9th by NIRF (MBA) 56th by INDIATODAY (MBA) Average CTC 15.42 LPA 25.08 LPA 7.73 LPA Highest CTC 58.22 LPA 50 LPA 16.26 LPA Course Fee 19.5 lakhs 12 lakhs 11 lakhs The major common factor that connects these institutes is that they are all part of the Xavier Academic Association Board or XAAB.Read more

Ques. How much do profs like L Gurunathan from XLRI earn from their guest lectures at IIM Ahmedabad?

● Top Answer By Sayantani Barman on 16 Apr 21

Ans. Any visiting professor or faculty member, like L Gurunathan from XLRI, is paid on an hourly basis. It is rather a fair amount to share. For a full credit 30 hour course, a professor like him can be paid anywhere from Rs. 8,000 per hour to Rs. 15,000 per hour. Generally, new IIMs pay a lot higher than what old IIMs pay, which somehow can be anticipated.  The best guess still remains to be around Rs. 10,000 per hour or a whole 3 lac, if the professor invests for a full credit course. Other than that, if you wish to know how L Gurunathan in XLRI is known to be, then read the progression. L Gurunathan had taught Comp. and Benefits in the Talent Management course online offered solely by XLRI - VIL programs to my younger cousin alongside other students, and as he reports, his vantage point isn't likely the best. Students comparatively arrive with basic industry knowledge, but his attitude towards them doesn’t remain smooth at all. It is something to consider. He also, over time, has failed providing students important notes, handouts or book suggestions, unlike many other professors. Students have often come up saying that his indifferent behaviour has led into not sharing better information of Comp. and Benefits which rather is a very technical subject itself.  He is somehow infamous for not teaching the proper structures of a topic. He teaches what he thinks about, which practically can be chaotic, if not followed a pattern. The story however does not end there. L Gurunathan, when asked for various case studies or book suggestions, directly moves into denial, saying that his teachings on the topic are strictly based on one.Read more

Ques. Which one is a better option among the three, XLRI (HRM), IIFT Delhi or IIM Indore?

● Top Answer By Hitaishi Bhatia on 01 Feb 21

Ans. XLRI is the best option among these three colleges, undoubtedly. It is one of the top 10 Business schools in India along with a great brand reputation both inside and outside the industry. If you are planning on doing an MBA in HRM then XLRI is the best shot. Here is the list of reasons behind XLRI being the preferred choice. Career Goals- The choice of college depends mostly upon the choice of subject. For HRM (Human resource management) XLRI is the best fit. However, if you have an interest in trade, commerce, and foreign exchange trade then IIFT is the perfect place.  If you are unsure about your choice of the area then IIM is a good option. It will allow you to explore different streams and different subjects, and ultimately decide the subject in which your interest lies. Completing an MBA from XLRI in HRM doesn’t imply that their scope is constricted to one particular area. It is often seen that students from HRM establish a career for themselves in general management, marketing, systems or operations, etc.  Reputation- The brand of a college does play a pivotal role in the career trajectory of a student. XLRI- It is the oldest management institute in the country. Its’ alumni have been placed globally at senior positions. IIFT- It is a top-rated institute in the foreign-trade area with a strong alumni base. IIM Indore- As it is a new IIM, the brand value is comparably low.  Placement- Cross-functional placement opportunities are present in XLRI given that the student has an excellent track record. One thing should be kept in mind amidst the placement procedure, there are multiple times when top-recruiting companies hire students and assign them various functions outside the student’s area of expertise. Which makes specialization less important.  Teaching and learning quality- The quality of education imparted at XLRI is extremely good, the students are from various backgrounds. Thus the interactions between students are a learning experience in itself.  The combination of people in the department, especially in the HRM department is diverse and good. The class entails at least 40% of engineers, and the rest of the students are from IITs, BITS, NITs, etc.  Thus, to conclude the discussion XLRI is the best choice for a student who wants to pursue an MBA. Have a good day.Read more

Ques. What is the average package a normal person gets in IIMs, XLRI, FMS or ISB Hyderabad?

● Top Answer By Nikita Joshi on 16 Jan 21

Ans. When you are talking about the normal person, you must be clear about who this normal person is. Is it a person who is in the middle when people are arranged as per the salary package they receive? If yes, then you are looking for the median salary value.  The median value of packages for old IIMs, XLRI, and FMS ranges somewhere between 18-25 lakhs per annum while for new IIMs and other B-schools, the median value ranges between 10-16 lakhs per annum. The packages differ year after year. Also, there are many factors that come into consideration while deciding the average package received by a normal person in any of the institutes be it IIMs or other b-schools.  The average package in a particular specialization may be higher in a specific institute. For eg: XLRI gets the highest median packages for HR specialization, but not for other specializations.  The table given below will help you understand the average package that a normal person receives at the IIMs, XLRI, FMS, and ISB.  College Average Package (2019-2020) Indian Institute of Management 18-25 LPA Xavier School of Management 21-23 LPA Faculty of Management Studies 21-25 LPA Indian School of Business 18-24 LPA Do not blindly rely on the placement reports as most of these reports are unaudited. Do thorough research before you apply for the management program.Read more

Ques. Which MBA college is good: XLRI, ISB or IIFT?

● Top Answer By Mansha Azad on 15 Jan 21

Ans. IIFT is an excellent institution not particularly in India but also in Asia. It is a 55-year-old institution under the ministry of commerce and has the best to offer in areas of International Business and Foreign trade. ISB is quite reputed among students. The global ranking is the selling point and XLRI carries class and quality. It depends on what specialization you want to choose.  The table shows a brief overview of the institutions. Particulars XLRI Jamshedpur ISB Hyderabad IIFT Delhi Median Salary INR 15 LPA INR 25.7 LPA INR 18.20 LPA Entrance Criteria XAT/GMAT GMAT / GRE IIFT Fees Rs. 4.26 Lakh Rs. 37.49 Lakh Rs. 7.6 Lakh Comparison: For Foreign trade and Int business, IIFT is way better than even IIMs, let alone XLRI and ISB.  IIFTs has affiliations with WTO, UNESCAP, WORLD BANK, and other UN and international research organizations.  For HR, XLRI is better than the others. It can be called the Mecca of HR studies. XLRI has a global reputation for HR.  XRLI is the first B-school that TATA established to direct the early dreams of Indian business management directed at reconstructing India into a compelling economy.  ISB offers a great brand name and a global ranking. So, choose the institute based on your choice of specialization.Read more

Placement Experience :

In the first year, all students undergo the summer internship placement process. If an offer of employment is not made during the internship, the student can opt for final placements. The average salary is 25.08 LPA in 2021. 108 recruiters visited the campus. All 100% of the students are placed.

Remarks :

XLRI has the best course in Asia for Human Resource Management and enjoys an excellent reputation in the industry. The college has a smaller batch size compared to many others which is a plus point. Our interview dates were between February and March-end. The results were released on 20th May 2020. However, this was majorly due to the effect of the pandemic and results are usually out in the second week of April.

Placement Experience :

There is just one word for placements - superb. The name XLRI is a brand in itself and recruiters are going to line up and fight for a slot to hire from campus. So placement should be the least of anyone's worries while visiting. The best names in management consulting such as McKinsey, BCG, Bain as well as in Investment Banking such as JPMC and Goldman Sachs visit every year. Be it FMCGs, fintech firms, product management roles, anything, and everything is available. Not even a single student goes unplaced. The median and average packages are both close to 24 lacs per annum.

Remarks :

XLRI has always been among the top-five B-Schools of India and the best B-School when it comes to HR. Not to mention, despite being in HR, the opportunities offered are wide-ranging when it comes to placements and you are open to sitting for almost all roles offered on campus. Placements, coupled with great brand value and a very strong alumni network make XLRI a top-notch institute that can provide the best exposure any MBA can give. The culture is also vibrant, with great committees to work for, great peers to learn from who come from the best undergrad colleges in the country, and professors who are aware of state-of-the-art tools, techniques, and methodologies that can make one a desirable commodity in the industry. XLRI has a long legacy and is the oldest B-school in India, and almost all HRs in all big companies are from XLRI. Not just the HRs, but some of the best people who occupy the C-suite of corporations have gained their MBA from XL which gives it a unique edge over others.

Placements have always been the best in the country and 100%. All top companies visit the campus. Placement support from college is also excellent. The package is best among the top B schools. Companies exceed the number of students.

Remarks :

Placement Experience :

There is a saying in XLRI that translates to, "If you've reached XL, you'll definitely get placed". Even in the covid year, the institute saw an average package of 25 l p.a. with a median of 23 l p.a. which is an improvement from last year. Other than top consult companies, various HR, S&M and Prodman roles recruit from XLRI.

Remarks :

PGDHRM at XLRI Jamshedpur is not only a course, it is an identity to take pride in. Not only have eminent personalities once graced its hallowed corridors as students, but the institute has also always thrived to consistently uphold its legacy even after 70+ years. For an aspiring HR, this is truly the first choice, as it has been named the Best HR course in the Asia Pacific. The flagship 2-year full-time residential program offers admission through XAT, which usually takes place on the first Sunday of January. Thereafter, candidates are shortlisted for the next round via a cutoff score (for both overall and sectional). The pedagogy is majorly case-based and the faculty are all highly competent and experienced.

Placement Experience :

100% of the students are placed. Despite the COVID scenario, XLRI has managed to improve the average and the medium packages offered. Roles are offered across domains by top companies across sectors including FMCG, Pharma, IT, etc.

Remarks :

XLRI is the oldest B School in India offering courses for Business Management as well as Human Resource Management. The human resource management program at XLRI is the best HR program in Asia. XLRI is known to have a strong Alumni support known as 'XL Mafia'. I preferred joining XLRI over other converts because of brand value, presence of the finest faculties, placement records, infrastructure, culture, etc. The senior batch was also very supportive in providing honest reviews that helped me in making an informed decision. The admission process includes XAT followed by an asynchronous video interview, GD and WAT followed by a personal interview.

Placement Experience :

Placements are undoubtedly great. All the major companies hire from XLRI. Summer Internships are a great way to start a corporate career and that time is the most intense time as everyone vies for a PPO. They also have lateral and campus recruitment later in January to February, for which only second-year students are eligible. Placements have been 100% historically. "XL aaye ho to place to ho hi jaoge" is alout mantra. The average is around 25 lakhs. Companies like BCG, BAIN, AMAZON, MICROSOFT, GOOGLE, etc. hire every year.

Remarks :

Take a moment and search CHRO of any major company. There is a shockingly amazing chance that they'll be from XLRI. Now repeat this for as many companies as you want and you'll see the strength of XL mafia: alumni network. XLRI is one of the best management institutes and the undisputed leader in the labour education industry. The fees may seem like a lot but the placements thereafter justify it and the ROI is good.

Placement Experience :

Students have to mandatorily go for summer internships after completing one year in college selection for which happens somewhere in October. The final placements happen in two phases, with students having prior work experience eligible for the LRP process and the remaining students going through a CRP process.

Remarks :

The main aspect which I considered while choosing XLRI over other colleges was its excellent placement statistics and the variety of companies coming to the college. The first step in getting to XLRI is giving XAT examinations which usually happens in the first week of June after which if you clear the cutoff scores, you are called for a GDPI round and a merit list is published. The good aspects of this college are excellent professors, a very good and diverse peer group from whom you earn a lot, and excellent mentoring from seniors. One of the negative aspects is over interference of admin in some of the matters.

Placement Experience :

The placement opportunities that students get are ample. Year after year, the college has achieved cent percentage placements for its outgoing students, in some of the best organizations to work in, and the statistics have improved as well. For the current outgoing batch, the placement process was completed in two days, with 100% of the batch getting placed. The average salary was Rs. 25.08 lakhs and the median salary was Rs. 23 lakh per annum. The median for the top 10 percentile of the batch was Rs. 37.49 lakhs, and for the top 25th percentile, it was Rs. 34.80 lakh per annum. The highest domestic offer was Rs. 50 lakh per annum. 33.33 percentage of the students had received pre-placement offers. The final recruitment process had 108 recruiters making 370 offers, and there were 23 first-time recruiters as well.

Remarks :

XLRI conducts its own entrance examination for admission to its programmes. Every year, close to 75000 aspirants sit for XAT to secure seats in this esteemed organization. XLRI is ranked amongst the best B-schools in the country and is the oldest institute of its kind in the nation. The institute offers a master's degree in Business Management, Human Resource Management, and General Management. Other than XAT scores, people can also secure admission through GMAT scores. The cutoff for getting an interview call is around 94-95 percentile, with sectional cut-offs as well. Being the oldest B-school in the country, XLRI has a very strong alumni network. The programme is very well structured to give a complete perspective of different domains in the first year, and subsequently, make an informed decision in the second year while choosing a specialization. There are ample opportunities available for everyone to develop and it is upon students to make the best use of such opportunities.

Placement Experience :

The placements in the college are amongst the best in the nation. Our recruiters include consulting giants like BCG, Bain, McKinsey, and Accenture Strategy. FMCGs like P&G, HUL, ColPal, Mondelez are some other recruiters. IT giants like Amazon, Microsoft, Google also recruit from the college. The highest package is around 50-55 LPA, whereas the average is between 23-26 LPA. The college guarantees 100% placement to every student with the lowest of 18 LPA.

Remarks :

XLRI Jamshedpur is the oldest B-School in India. It is also one of the best colleges for MBA in the country and the absolute best college for HRM in South Asia. The placements are at par with the old IIMs in the country for both BM and HRM. XLRI has its own entrance exam called XAT, usually held in the first week of January. The results are out by the last week of January, followed by an online asynchronous interview and essays. The slot for GD and PI needs to be booked from February second week to the third week of March. I found about XLRI through the Times of India. Also, XLRI is the alma matter to multiple CEOs and CHROs around the globe.
