Government College of Engineering and Research, Pune (GCOER Pune) is a government-aided engineering college in Pune district, Maharashtra. It is affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) and approved by AICTE, making it part of Maharashtra’s network of publicly funded engineering institutions with regulated, government-set fees.

GCOER Pune offers B.Tech across six engineering branches with a combined intake of 360 seats. A Lateral Entry B.Tech (for diploma and B.Sc holders) is available in all six branches. Admission is fully centralised through DTE Maharashtra’s CAP using MHT-CET scores for state quota seats and JEE Main for the 15% All India Quota.

The campus is located in Pune district, Maharashtra, with access to Pune’s manufacturing, IT, and automotive industrial corridor — a practical advantage for students in engineering, automobile, and electronics branches.

  • B.Tech (4 years) — 360 seats across Computer Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication, Mechanical, Civil, Automobile, and Instrumentation and Control Engineering
    • Computer Engineering is the most competitive branch, with 2025 Round 1 closing percentile at 96.94 for General home state candidates
  • B.Tech Lateral Entry (3 years) — for diploma and B.Sc holders, direct second-year admission via MAH DSE CAP

The total B.Tech fee is INR 96,621 for the complete four-year programme, uniform across all six branches. Lateral Entry B.Tech totals INR 72,534 for three years.

Placement data for the 2024-25 batch shows an average package of INR 3.83 LPA and a highest of INR 7.5 LPA. Computer Engineering sees the strongest placement activity among all branches.

Admission Update: GCOER Pune B.Tech admissions for 2026 are in progress. MHT-CET CAP 2026 Round 1 allotment was released on August 4, 2026. Round 2 and further rounds are ongoing at cetcell.mahacet.org. Lateral Entry (DSE) Round 1 allotment was also released on August 4, 2026.

GCOER Pune Admission Dates 2026

GCOER Pune Admission Process

All B.Tech admissions at GCOER Pune are merit-based and routed through DTE Maharashtra’s centralised CAP. No interview, group discussion, or college-level test is conducted. The MHT-CET or JEE Main percentile is the sole selection criterion.

B.Tech Eligibility and Selection

  • Qualifying exam: 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics
  • Minimum marks: 45% in PCM for General and OBC; 40% for SC/ST
  • Entrance exam: MHT-CET 2026 for 85% state quota seats; JEE Main 2026 for 15% AIQ seats
  • Domicile: Maharashtra domicile required for state quota. AIQ candidates must not hold Maharashtra domicile
  • 2025 cutoff reference: Computer Engineering closed at 96.94 percentile (General, Home State, Round 1). Automobile Engineering and Instrumentation and Control Engineering branches close at significantly lower percentiles

GCOER Pune has no management quota or NRI quota. All 360 seats are filled through DTE Maharashtra CAP rounds only. Maharashtra state reservation norms apply: SC, ST, OBC, VJ/NT, SBC, EWS, and PwD categories have reserved seats in the state quota pool.

B.Tech Lateral Entry (DSE) Eligibility

  • For diploma holders: Three-year diploma in the relevant engineering branch from MSBTE or equivalent, with minimum 45% aggregate (40% for SC/ST)
  • For B.Sc graduates: B.Sc with Mathematics from a recognised university, minimum 45% aggregate (40% for SC/ST)
  • No entrance exam: Selection is based on diploma or B.Sc percentage merit rank in MAH DSE CAP 2026

GCOER Pune Placements

Computer Engineering consistently records the strongest placement activity among all six branches, with 73 to 85% placement rate and offers from IT services and product companies. Mechanical, Automobile, and Instrumentation branches see lower placement rates, with core engineering roles accounting for most offers. Top recruiters include TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Capgemini, Cognizant, HCL Technologies, Tech Mahindra, Accenture, Adani, and Ambuja Cement.

Students from non-CS branches at GCOER Pune typically pursue placements through off-campus drives, GATE preparation for PSU roles, or core industry roles in Pune’s manufacturing belt. Government jobs remain a major career pathway for Mechanical and Civil branch graduates.

GCOER Pune Campus and Infrastructure

GCOER Pune is a government-aided college in Pune district with campus facilities appropriate for the programmes offered. Hostel is available on campus — a boys hostel (INR 1,150 to INR 6,630 per year) and a girls hostel (up to INR 2,880 per year), at government-regulated rates among the lowest in the Pune engineering college cluster.

Being an SPPU-affiliated government college, GCOER Pune has access to SPPU’s library network and exam infrastructure. The Pune location gives students proximity to the city’s industrial and IT base — relevant for internships in Automobile and Computer Engineering branches in particular.

GCOER Pune vs PICT Pune vs MIT College of Engineering Pune

Students shortlisted for GCOER Pune through MHT-CET CAP also consider PICT Pune and MIT College of Engineering Pune — two prominent private engineering colleges in the same city, with overlapping aspirant pools at MHT-CET 85+ percentile range.

GCOER Pune’s decisive advantage is cost — at INR 96,621 total for four years versus INR 5 to 7 Lakhs at PICT or MIT COE, students from economically weaker sections (especially SC/ST eligible for full fee reimbursement) find GCOER Pune’s government-regulated fee structure unmatched. PICT and MIT COE offer larger intake, stronger industry tie-ups, and higher placement averages but at significantly higher cost.

Government College of Engineering and Research, Pune (GCoER Avasari Khurd) primarily offers full-time B.Tech engineering programmes through the Maharashtra CET/JEE Main and centralized admission process; it does not advertise special working-professional evening or part-time engineering courses like some autonomous Pune colleges do. Admissions and classes are structured for regular students (full-time) rather than specifically for employed professionals balancing work and study.
