PESITM Admission Process

All B.E. admissions at PESITM flow through Karnataka state-level counselling under VTU and the Karnataka Examinations Authority. The college is allotted KCET code E150 for engineering admissions. COMEDK UGET provides an additional route for candidates from outside Karnataka or those with higher ranks through the COMEDK process.

B.E. Admission

Candidates must qualify KCET or COMEDK UGET. Karnataka domicile candidates get preference for KCET seats as per state reservation norms. Eligibility requires 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, with a minimum aggregate of 45% (40% for reserved categories). The selection process is:

  • Appear in KCET (State quota seats) or COMEDK UGET (Management quota seats)
  • Register for KEA online counselling and exercise college and branch preferences
  • Receive seat allotment based on rank, category, and available seats at PESITM
  • Report to the college with original 10+2 marks card, KCET rank card, domicile certificate, and prescribed fees

Based on KCET 2025 allotment data, General Merit candidates with KCET ranks up to approximately 53,000 to 54,000 secured CSE and AI-ML seats at PESITM in previous cycles. Civil and Mechanical branches have admitted candidates with ranks well above 2,00,000 in the KCET General category. COMEDK ranks for CSE fell in the range of 10,000 to 20,000 in recent cycles.

B.E. Lateral Entry Admission

Diploma holders may apply for direct second-year (lateral entry) admission via Karnataka DCET. Eligibility requires a Diploma in the relevant engineering branch. Seats are filled through KEA DCET counselling.

MBA and MCA Admission

MBA eligibility is any recognised UG degree with a minimum of 50%. Admission is through KMAT Karnataka, CMAT, or Karnataka PGCET, followed by state counselling by VTU. MCA admission requires a UG degree with Mathematics as one of the subjects, and a valid Karnataka PGCET rank. Both programmes are 2-year full-time programmes.

PESITM Placements

PESITM placement activities are coordinated by the Career Development Centre. The 2024 placement season recorded a highest package of INR 12 LPA and an average package of approximately INR 5 LPA. Around 640 placement offers were extended to eligible graduating students during the 2024 season. Over 23 companies participated in the on-campus placement drive.

PESITM Campus and Infrastructure

The PESITM campus occupies 49 acres on Sagar Main Road, Shivamogga, Karnataka. The campus layout includes separate blocks for all B.E. departments, dedicated laboratories meeting VTU and AICTE norms, a central library with books, journals, and digital resources, seminar halls, and a dedicated placement centre. The college provides transportation services from key points in Shivamogga city.

Sports facilities cover both indoor and outdoor activities. The college also houses centres of excellence in collaboration with technology partners. All six B.E. programmes accredited by NBA (CSE, ISE, ECE, Civil, ME, EEE) have dedicated infrastructure meeting outcome-based education norms, as assessed during NBA accreditation visits. The campus does not have a hostel facility on record, and students typically arrange accommodation in Shivamogga city, which is approximately 3 to 5 km from the campus.

The research programme (Ph.D. and M.Sc. by Research) operates out of specialised department research centres. Faculty involvement in research is reflected in conference publications and funded projects across the engineering departments.

PESITM vs BIET Davangere vs MCE Hassan

Candidates from central Karnataka who are targeting VTU-affiliated private engineering colleges often compare PESITM Shivamogga alongside Bapuji Institute of Engineering and Technology (BIET) in Davangere and Malnad College of Engineering (MCE) in Hassan. All three are VTU-affiliated and cater to a similar KCET aspirant pool from the region.

MCE Hassan is a government-aided institution with lower fees and a longer track record, making it a strong competitor for candidates with KCET ranks below 30,000. BIET Davangere is a private autonomous college with a similar NAAC A grade and comparable placement sector. PESITM’s strength lies in its full private autonomous model, 10 B.E. specialisation choices including emerging AI and Data Science branches, and its 49-acre campus setting in Shivamogga. Candidates should compare KCET closing ranks and branch availability across these colleges when making a final decision.

PESITM: 4 Answered Questions

Which is best among PESIT (south campus), PES University (Banashankari) and PES College of Engineering (Mandya)?

Kavya Chowdhury

PES University Bangalore campuses — comparison:

  • PESIT South Campus (Bangalore South): the original PESIT campus. strong engineering programs, good placements, established faculty. part of the PES group. autonomous college. Bangalore location advantage
  • PES University Banashankari/Ring Road campus: the main PES University campus (after obtaining university status). deemed university — can grant its own degrees. better for flexibility and updated curriculum. PESSAT entrance exam
  • PES College of Engineering Mandya: outside Bangalore, smaller campus. less prestigious than the Bangalore campuses. good for local/Karnataka students who want PES brand at lower admission cutoffs

ranking: PES University (Ring Road) ? PESIT South Campus > PES College Mandya

PES University getting deemed university status means it has more academic freedom. for placements in IT (Infosys, Wipro, TCS, some product companies), PES University and PESIT South are both solid Bangalore engineering options. if you're comparing these three — PES University main campus or PESIT South for Bangalore placements; avoid Mandya unless there's a specific reason.

Which is preferred: a PESIT VTU degree or a PES University degree? Why?

Aman BhallaBangalore,Karnataka

It's challenging to determine which is preferred between a PESIT VTU degree and a PES University degree, as both have their pros and cons.

PESIT VTU degree may be preferred as it has a long-standing reputation and has been around for a while. The degree is recognized by many top companies, and graduates from PESIT have gone on to secure excellent job opportunities. The syllabus is well-established and has been tried and tested for years, ensuring a well-rounded education.

On the other hand, the PES University degree is a relatively new degree, and its value is yet to be determined. However, it is independent of the VTU and provides more specialized education in the chosen field. The syllabus is enhanced, and the university has modern infrastructure and technology that can be advantageous to students.

Ultimately, it depends on what one's priorities are. If a well-established reputation and recognition by top companies are important, then a PESIT VTU degree may be preferred. However, if specialized education and access to modern infrastructure and technology are priorities, then a PES University degree may be the better option.

Which is better, PESIT VTU or PES University?

Anamika ChaudhuriStudied at Chandigarh University (2019)

As far as the name of the university is concerned, let me tell you that PESIT became PES University back in 2014.

It is also known as PESU and like every other university, it also has its own advantages and disadvantages. The authorities at the university are keen on trying to create a strong workforce.

  • With PESU being in the early stages of its development, it also requires attention in many areas. For this, the authorities are quite careful with and everything.
  • Now, when you talk about PESIT VTU or PESIT South Campus, this college follows the pattern set by VTU. So, you can easily trust it.
  • This pattern has been tried and tested and quite a lot of colleges are known to follow it. But, PESU on the other hand, is trying something new.

The first batch at PESU passed out in 2018. You can accordingly check how well this and the other batches are doing and if taking admission at PESU is a risk worth undertaking.

Since PESIT and PES University are both on the same campus, will there be any difference in the placement and education in the two? If so, then which will be better?

Sandip Pal
Devdarshini DeyStudied at PES University (2019)

In terms of placements, there is no difference as such- whether you talk about PESIT or PES, both colleges provide good placements.

The students of both universities get to sit together with each other inside the campus. Jobs depend upon how well you perform with your abilities. The better you put your abilities to use, the higher your chances of getting a job are.

Now, faculty-wise, both the colleges share a fine set of faculty that can inspire you in many ways. You can end up learning a lot from them.
