Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants was established as the Central Indian Medicinal Plants Organization (CIMPO) in 1959. It is also known as CIMAP and its research headquarter is situated at Sultanpur - Lucknow Road.

CIMAP is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India

CIMAP has four research centers situated in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pantnagar, and Purana. All of them/ CIMAP are engaged in the field of science and business of medical and aromatics plants.

The institute invites applications for admission to Ph.D courses under 6 specializations and students with postgraduate degrees in the relevant fields can apply for admission.

Selection will be based on the performance in CSIR UGC-NET.

The application form for admission will be available on the official website of the institute https://www.csir.res.in/ and the application fee of INR 200 can be paid through Demand Draft.

CIMAP Lucknow Ph.D Admission 2021

The institute invites application form for admission to the Doctorate program. Students with Postgraduate Degrees in the relevant subjects can apply for admission to the course.

The selection for interview will be based on CSIR NET (JRF)/ UGC NET (JRF)/ ICMR NET (JRF) Entrance Exam.

CIMAP Lucknow PhD Eligibility Criteria:

  • Candidates should have completed M.Sc. In Life Sciences/ Agriculture/ Botany/ Chemistry/ Biotechnology/Bioscience/Biochemistry/Plant Sciences/ Environmental Sciences/ Molecular Biology/Bioinformatics with minimum 55 % marks (50% marks for SC/ST/PH).
  • Those candidates who have cleared CSIR-UGC NET Exam/ICMR-NET Exam/DBT-JRF Exam/ GPAT or some other exam resulting in JRF/SRF fellowship tenable at CSIR-CIMAP are eligible to apply under the Programme to perform advanced research.

CIMAP Lucknow PhD Selection Criteria:

  • Those candidates who had cleared above mentioned CSIR-UGC NET Exam or equivalent will be enrolled for the PhD program in academic affiliation with the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.
  • Candidates will be called for an Interview which is mandatory for all candidates.
  • The chosen candidates will need to complete Pre-Ph. D. courses in any one of the 3 sub-disciplines (Plant Sciences/Biotechnology & Bioinformatics/Chemical sciences) of the interest as the Core courses with optional classes, in two semesters, spread over one year.
  • On the successful completion of courses (OGPA 6.5/10.0 for general & OBC category and 6.0/10.0 for SC/ST//PH) students will be eligible for Registration as CIMAP-JNU Ph.D. scholar under the supervision of CSIR-CIMAP scientists available as Guide to perform research on a scientific topic covered under aforementioned areas at CSIR-CIMAP.
  • Selected candidates can take admission by submitting the required documents.

How to Apply for Ph.D. in CIMAP?

  • Admission to the CIMAP-JNU Ph.D. program will be made purely based on interviews.
  • Walk-in-interview will be held in the month of August at CSIR-Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Lucknow.
  • Before the interview, the candidate must fill an application form from the website (https://www.csir.res.in/).
  • Application form to be accompanied with a nonrefundable processing fee in the form of a Demand Draft for Rs.200/- (Rupees 2 hundred only) for General candidate and Rs. 100/for SC/ST/OBC/PH candidate fee drawn in favor of Director, Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Lucknow.
  • The application should be accompanied by self-attested copies of certificates and mark sheets given below:

  2. CSIR NET JRF/ UGC NET JRF/ ICMR NET JRF exam scorecard and details also certificate should be enclosed with the application.

  6. Migration Certificate (In case the candidate is from another state).
  7. Colored passport sized photographs.

FAQs

Ques. How can we get admission/ fellowship in CSIR Ph.D.?

Ans. The candidates holding any of the following degrees with at least 55% marks (General and OBC) or 50% marks (ST/SC/PWD) will be eligible for the reward of Junior Research Fellowship offered by CSIR. The candidates need to qualify the Joint CSIR UGC NET Exam available for the CSIR Fellowships.

Ques. What does CSIR Fellowship mean?

Ans. CSIR NET is the national level exam conducted by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research to check the eligibility of the candidates to apply for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF).

Ques. What is the difference between JRF and NET, are they the same?

Ans. Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) is a research fellowship that is offered by the UGC National Eligibility Test (NET). So, JRF is the eligibility for research with a stipend through the NET examination. JRF award is eligible for 3 years only.

Ques. What is the further process after qualifying CSIR NET JRF?

Ans. Candidates can apply for admission in the PhD program after qualifying the CSIR NET JRF Exam, the application form will be available on the official website of CSIR.

After submitting the application form I was called up on the campus for an interview session and was asked about the course where I had to do the PhD.
