India: States and their Capitals

India is the seventh largest country in the world. It is a home to 28 states and 8 union territories. Each state boasts a mosaic of cultures, languages, landscapes, and traditions. India is divided into 6 zones- Northern India, Western India, Southern India, Central India, Eastern India and North-East India.

Here is a list of the 28 states in alphabetical order:

1. Andhra Pradesh - It is home to Tirupati, one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in India. The state is known for its rich cultural heritage, including the classical dance form of Kuchipudi.
2. Arunachal Pradesh - It is the northeasternmost state of India, bordering China, Bhutan, and Myanmar. The state is known for its breathtaking landscapes, including the Tawang Monastery and Ziro Valley.
3. Assam - Assam is famous for its tea production, and it is the largest tea-growing region in the world. The state is home to Kaziranga National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and hosts two-thirds of the world's one-horned rhinoceros population.
4. Bihar - Bihar is an ancient land with a rich history dating back to the Magadha Empire and the teachings of Lord Buddha. The state is home to Nalanda University, one of the oldest universities in the world.
5. Chhattisgarh - Chhattisgarh is known for its abundant mineral resources, particularly coal and iron ore. The state is home to several tribal communities, and their art, music, and dance forms are integral to its cultural heritage. 
6. Goa - Goa is India's smallest state and is renowned for its stunning beaches, vibrant nightlife, and Portuguese influence. It is a popular tourist destination and attracts visitors from around the world.
7. Gujarat - Gujarat is the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation. The state is known for its rich textile heritage, traditional handicrafts, and the vibrant Kutch Rann Utsav.
8. Haryana - Haryana is known as the "land of milk and butter" due to its thriving dairy industry. It is home to the famous Sultanpur National Park, which is a haven for birdwatchers.
9. Himachal Pradesh - Himachal Pradesh is a paradise for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts, with its snow-capped mountains, lush valleys, and thrilling trekking trails. The state is known for its apples and is one of the largest apple-producing regions in India.
10. Jharkhand - Jharkhand is rich in mineral resources, with abundant reserves of coal, iron ore, and copper. The state is known for its tribal culture and is home to several indigenous communities.
11. Karnataka - Karnataka is home to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Hampi, Pattadakal, and the Western Ghats. It is famous for its classical music and dance forms, with the city of Mysore being a hub of cultural heritage.
12. Kerala - Kerala is known as "God's Own Country" for its serene backwaters, lush green landscapes, and Ayurvedic traditions. The state has the highest literacy rate in India and is famous for its traditional dance form of Kathakali.
13. Madhya Pradesh - Madhya Pradesh is known for its architectural marvels, including the temples of Khajuraho and the rock-cut caves of Bhimbetka. It is home to several national parks, including Bandhavgarh and Kanha, which are famous for tiger sightings.

16. Meghalaya - Meghalaya is blessed with abundant rainfall, which has resulted in its stunning waterfalls, caves, and lush green landscapes. The state is home to Mawlynnong, the cleanest village in Asia.

25. Tripura - Tripura is known for its beautiful palaces, such as Ujjayanta Palace in Agartala, and its vibrant tribal culture. The state shares a border with Bangladesh and is home to the famous Neermahal, a water palace built in the middle of a lake.
26. Uttar Pradesh - Uttar Pradesh is the most populous state in India and is known for its historical and cultural significance. It is home to iconic landmarks like the Taj Mahal in Agra and the holy city of Varanasi.
27. Uttarakhand - Uttarakhand is known as the "Land of the Gods" and is revered for its sacred rivers, pilgrimage sites, and scenic hill stations. The state is home to the famous Char Dham Yatra, which includes the holy sites of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath.
28. West Bengal - West Bengal is famous for its intellectual and cultural heritage, including the city of Kolkata, which has produced renowned poets, writers, and artists. The state is known for its grand Durga Puja celebrations, where elaborate artistic installations called pandals are created.
