RWTH Aachen University Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

RWTH Aachen University assesses Indian applicants on the bachelor’s transcript, English proficiency, credit-matching against the target master’s, and the APS certificate.

Postgraduate applicants must clear:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 60% or CGPA 6.0/10 (recommended) in a directly related field; credit-matching handled by the programme’s Examination Board
  • English proficiency: IELTS 6.5 overall (6.0 in each band) or TOEFL iBT 87; verify programme-specific minimums on the official admissions page
  • APS certificate from the German Embassy in New Delhi
  • Statement of purpose plus programme-specific documents such as course-content descriptions and CV

Undergraduate applicants must clear:

  • Class 12 with 75% to 85% (recommended) plus qualification for a bachelor’s programme in India in a related field
  • German language proficiency at C1 level via DSH-2, TestDaF-4 or Goethe C1 certificate
  • APS certificate

Note: APS is a prerequisite for both admission and the student visa; the certificate has no expiry but the interview slot must be booked at least eight weeks in advance, and academic transcripts must be uploaded in original German or English.

RWTH Aachen University Acceptance Rate 2027

RWTH Aachen University does not publish an overall acceptance rate. The programme-level acceptance rate for English-taught master’s is estimated at 10% (estimated), derived from application-to-admission ratios reported in third-party datasets. Competitive engineering and computer science tracks admit fewer than 15% of applicants.

Selection is capacity-restricted for most master’s, with rankings based on the bachelor’s GPA and subject-fit rather than a fixed cutoff. Programmes with high demand publish provisional selection lists two to three months after the deadline.

Reality check: Indian applicants with a bachelor’s CGPA below 6.5/10 face a steep filter, since German credit-matching often demotes lower-GPA transcripts before the shortlist stage; a strong SOP and demonstrated project work rarely offset the GPA gap.

RWTH Aachen University Placements and Career Outcomes 2027

RWTH Aachen University does not publish a central placement rate, since German master’s graduates transition to work through direct employer applications rather than campus placement drives. Engineering graduates typically secure roles within four to six months of graduation.

  • Median starting salary (engineering master’s): €55,000 to €65,000 per year (₹51.98 to ₹61.43 lakh, market median for German engineering graduates)
  • Median starting salary (computer science master’s): €58,000 to €72,000 per year (₹54.81 to ₹68.04 lakh, market median)

RWTH Aachen University vs Peer Universities

Indian applicants comparing RWTH Aachen typically weigh it against other German TU9 members and the top Indian engineering institutions on rankings, tuition burden and post-degree salary outcomes.

UniversityQS Rank 2027Collegedunia Study Abroad 2026Avg Annual PG Fee (EUR + INR)Differentiator
RWTH Aachen University#104#75 Global€640 semester contribution (₹60,480)Engineering research powerhouse in TU9

IIT Bombay#134NA₹2 to ₹10 lakh per yearIndian benchmark with lower fees and INR salaries

RWTH Aachen University stands out for its zero-tuition policy, TU9 research funding and dense automotive-industry pipeline. IIT Bombay outranks it on QS but offers no European work-visa pathway.

The Collegedunia Study Abroad ranking places RWTH Aachen at #6 in Germany, behind TU Munich and LMU Munich but ahead of most other technical universities on international-student outcomes.

RWTH Aachen University suits Indian engineering and computer science graduates targeting a tuition-free, research-heavy German master’s with clear paths into the automotive, industrial software and materials sectors. The €10 to €13 lakh annual investment recovers within the first year of a €55 lakh starting salary, and the 18-month post-study visa plus EU Blue Card route offers Europe’s most stable graduate work pathway.

The university is not the right fit for Indian applicants seeking a business or MBA-first curriculum, an intensive campus placement calendar, or English-taught bachelor’s programmes. Applicants with a bachelor’s CGPA below 6.5/10 or without APS clearance should consider ESB Reutlingen or IU International University of Applied Sciences as alternatives with more flexible entry pathways.

RWTH Aachen University FAQs

Check the specific programme instructions before paying, as fees are non-refundable if the application is later withdrawn or found ineligible.

Ques. Which Indian banks offer education loans for RWTH Aachen University studies?

Ans. SBI Global Ed-Vantage, HDFC Credila, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank and Bank of Baroda offer education loans for RWTH Aachen University. Loan amounts up to ₹1.5 crore are typical for master’s, covering semester contribution, blocked account funds, health insurance and living costs. Public-sector loans often carry lower interest but longer processing; NBFC options like Prodigy Finance or MPOWER also fund Indian students without collateral.

Ques. How do Indian applicants get bachelor transcripts recognised at RWTH Aachen?

Ans. RWTH Aachen accepts Indian bachelor transcripts after evaluation through uni-assist for most master’s programmes. Applicants send certified copies of marksheets, degree certificate and syllabus, with translations for documents not in English. The uni-assist Vorpruefungsdokumentation confirms whether the Indian degree meets the German master’s entry standard. WES evaluation is not required for RWTH admission decisions or the German student visa.

  • There are a lot of international students in Aachen and a lot of clubs. There's one campus, and there are libraries, with 1 big one in the city centre. There are multiple sports centres, with a big one in the north.
  • Almost every week there are events, and there is the Carnival in November and February in the region. There is also a big Indian club called INCA. As for extracurriculars, one can do almost any activity with other students as well in the city, which is a cultural landmark.

Fees

  • There is no tuition fee, outside of a "semester fee" of 300 euros, which includes the semester ticket that allows free transport across Germany. Then, there are living expenses, which can range from 800-900 in total, but the hostel fees can range from 250-400, and allow you to stay at a cheaper place. Renting an apartment in a shared flat can be 350-600.
  • The fee needs to be sent to the university bank account at the start of the semester. In total, the living expenses are 1100, including groceries, outings and transportation, which can be recovered when one works part-time, which provides salaries from 600-1200 a month.

  • As far as I know, RWTH university has a lot of institutes and a lot of buildings in the entire city of Aachen. University itself has different libraries, a sports center, a gym, a medical college, student dorms, canteens and a lot more. Each institute has different activities and each community conducts different events here, like summer parties. Indian students also conduct some activities here during the festival time.

Fees

  • Currently I am doing free education here at RWTH Aachen, but there is a semester contribution that needs to be paid every semester between 290 and 320 euros approximately. That covers the semester ticket, which helps to travel all of Germany for free and also covers a state in the Netherlands called south limburg. Can travel by bus, train, tram and other public transport except express trains like ICE.

  • Whole city is a campus, so I don't know the exact number. DATA SCIENCE CLUB, Startup incubator are different clubs.
  • There are career fairs happening every year (this is very important) As it is always help you to engage with the company, which leads to getting some internship or full-time job.
  • There are lots of sports is also there like swimming, soccer, badminton, chess, marathon, etc.

Fees

  • 27000 Euro, and and I got a 3000 euro scholarship. fees is charges semester-wise; monthly expenses depend on the city. if you are living in munich than 1000 euro is the minimum (including everything) if you don't get the student dormitory, but if you get that, then 700 euro (including everything). In Aachen, it's 500-600 Euro if you get the private dormitory and 400-500 euro if you get the student dormitory.

  • The university offers a multitude of events ranging from welcome fests, christmas parties, and food events to bonding events to get in touch with recruiters. Also there are summer exchange programs as well as excursion trips.
  • Apart from that, there are department-specific events such as exhibitions and trade fairs. There are also vent offerings in sports and yoga throughout the semester so in total there are events happening every week.

Fees

  • The university offers courses for 300 euros per semester, which includes free travel passes in the North Rhine region. For a student the monthly estimate comes to about 1000 euros for a comfortable stay and can be squeezed if limited resources are consumed. Also with a hiwi job, one can also save to travel. It also includes a social contribution fee but the tuition fee component is zero.

  • The campus is lively and has a lot of clubs based on your interests. There will be some or the other event going on since this is the largest technical university in Germany. Keep in mind that you need to move out of the city to find a job opportunity since this is a student city with this university spread all over Aachen.
  • You have a sports center and all the other facilities that a typical university has but it'll be crowded. You'll have to attend meet-and-greet events, networking events with beer and snacks, and events at a startup ecosystem in Aachen called Collective Incubator. You'll have everything but it depends on how and how much you use those facilities.

  • It's hard to state the exact number of campuses, but it should be around 7-8.
  • In terms of facilities, there's a university library, sports centre, and language centre, but there aren't any medical services.
  • So, there are some events and activities that are always happening at the technical university, but I can't comment on that since I am not a part of the technical university.
  • However, when it comes to the business school, we as well have a lot of happening events all round the year—we have summer party, a course party, meet & eat, christmas parties, etc.

Fees

  • As far as the fees is concerned, it can be broken down in two bits:
    • 1. The tuition fees, which are about 30.000 euros and are paid in equal installments per semester (3 semesters).
    • 2. The other thing is the semester contribution, which is around 350 euros, paid per semester and is basically a charge for your semester ticket- that allows you to travel through Germany without any ticket.
  • Talking about the monthly expenses, one can live in Aachen comfortably with around 1000 euros per month, inclusive of rent, food, insurance, outings, etc. ( This could sometime be more or less depending if you're taking any external paid classes, for instance language classes.)
