RWTH International Academy Application Deadlines for Indian Students

All degree tracks at RWTH International Academy admit into the Winter Semester (October start). The registration window opens on December 2 each year, per the official Your Way to Us page. Since we are past the March 1, 2026 Non-EU cut-off, the next actionable cycle for Indian applicants is Winter Semester 2027/28.

RWTH International Academy’s primary intake for Indian students is Winter Semester (October start) — every Master’s programme opens here. The Summer Semester intake is not offered by the Academy.

Planning note: The Non-EU window closes four and a half months before the EU cut-off. Indians who miss March 1 cannot use the July EU window and must wait a full year for the next cycle.

RWTH International Academy Eligibility Requirements for Indian Applicants

Every applicant clears an academic floor, a graduate exam floor, and an English test floor. Selection is competitive, so the published minimums are the starting line rather than the finish line.

• Bachelor’s degree: Applicants must hold a recognised Bachelor's degree in a discipline relevant to their chosen Master's programme.
• Academic grade (recommended): No fixed percentage cut-off; competitive Indian admits usually sit in the 65% plus (or CGPA 7.0+) band.
• Recommended GRE (mandatory except MPA): Verbal Reasoning 145, Quantitative Reasoning 160, Analytical Writing 3. GEC (German Engineering College) certificate holders are exempt.
• Fundamental knowledge (engineering tracks): Engineering 60 ECTS, Maths and natural sciences 25 ECTS, systems sciences 16 ECTS, from the transcript.

The English test list is broader than most Indian applicants realise. Any one of the following, valid on the enrolment date, satisfies the language requirement.

MOI waivers are not available to Indian applicants. The Academy exempts only school-leaving certificates or first degrees taught in English from the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada or the US. Indian degrees taught in English medium do not qualify — plan for an IELTS or TOEFL attempt at least four months before your March 1 deadline.

RWTH International Academy Application Process Step by Step

The Academy runs a single-portal, single-round admissions cycle. There is no interview requirement for most programmes. Indian applicants complete the following six steps between December 2 and March 1.

1. Register on RWTHonline: Create an account at the RWTHonline portal from December 2 onwards. No application fee is charged — submission is free.
2. Choose your programme: Select one Master’s track. RWTH International Academy does not allow parallel applications to two Academy programmes in the same cycle.
3. Upload academic documents: Bachelor’s transcripts with credit points, module handbook or course descriptions, degree certificate (or interim certificate if final not issued).
4. Upload test scores (recommended scores): GRE report (Verbal 145 / Quant 160 / AW 3) and English test proof (IELTS 6.0 or equivalent). GEC-certified engineers upload the GEC certificate instead of GRE.
5. Add supporting documents: CV of one to two pages, motivation letter, two letters of recommendation, work experience letters covering at least six months.
6. Submit and track: Confirm submission by January 15 for the 10% Early Bird discount, otherwise by March 1 for the main Non-EU deadline. Decisions arrive by rolling review.

The Academy accepts scanned copies at the application stage. Certified physical copies are only required at enrolment, once a firm offer is issued.

RWTH International Academy Admission Decisions and Offer Timeline

RWTH International Academy reviews applications on a rolling basis after March 1 and typically issues decisions within six to eight weeks. Indian applicants can expect the following timeline for a March 1, 2027 submission.

• April to May 2027: Preliminary offer or shortlist notification arrives by email from the Admissions Office.
• Acceptance window: Firm offer must be accepted within 4 weeks of issue by returning the signed offer and paying the tuition deposit.
• Conditional offers: Common if the Bachelor’s degree certificate is pending — the condition clears on final transcript submission.
• Deferral policy: One-cycle deferral (to Winter 2028/29) is granted only on documented medical or visa-delay grounds; not for GRE retakes or personal preference.
• June to July 2027: Enrolment documents, APS certificate and blocked account proof are due before the visa file is sent to the German embassy.

Planning note: The four-week acceptance window is firm. Indians applying in parallel to Canadian or UK universities should time those decisions to arrive before mid-May 2027 to compare offers before the RWTH acceptance clock runs out.

RWTH International Academy Documents Required for Indian Applicants

The Academy runs a document-first review. Every file below is uploaded to RWTHonline in PDF form at the application stage. Certified physical copies follow later, at enrolment. This is a paperwork list only — the academic grade and English score thresholds live in the Eligibility section.

• Passport bio-page: Machine-readable, valid at least 18 months past intended enrolment.
• Bachelor’s transcripts: Semester-wise, with credit points and workload in hours.
• Module handbook or course description: With ECTS or credit-hour equivalents for every subject.
• Bachelor’s degree certificate: Original if issued; provisional certificate accepted with an interim marks sheet.
• GRE score report: Sent by ETS to the RWTH institution code; screenshot alone is not accepted at enrolment.
• English test score report: IELTS TRF, TOEFL score card or PTE score report from the awarding body.
• CV: One to two pages, chronological, covering education and employment.
• Motivation letter: One page addressing programme fit, career goals and reason for choosing RWTH.
• Two Letters of Recommendation: From professors, thesis supervisors or direct employers on letterhead.
• Work experience letters: Six months minimum at submission; balance to hit the 12-month floor is presented at enrolment.
• APS certificate: Issued by the German embassy’s Academic Evaluation Centre — mandatory for Indian applicants since November 2022.
• Passport-size photographs: Two, biometric-standard, for enrolment paperwork after offer acceptance.

RWTH International Academy Acceptance Rate and Selectivity

RWTH International Academy does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. Based on the GRE-competitive intake, cohort caps of 20 to 40 students per programme, and admissions patterns reported by Indian alumni, the effective acceptance rate is estimated at 40 to 50%. The academy sits in a moderately selective ranking band reflecting the wider RWTH Aachen umbrella.

How Selective is RWTH International Academy for Indian Students?

Selectivity is driven by three filters rather than a raw grade cut-off. First, the GRE floor (Verbal 145, Quantitative 160) removes candidates who cannot show quant depth. Second, the 12-month work experience floor removes fresh graduates. Third, the ECTS breakdown check removes applicants whose Bachelor’s programme did not carry the required foundation credits in engineering, maths and systems.

Who Gets into RWTH International Academy from India?

The competitive Indian admit profile clusters around a four-year B.Tech from an NIT, IIIT or top private university, 65 to 75% aggregate, one to three years at a mid-market engineering firm. Applicants with published research or manufacturing-industry experience carry a visible edge over standard software profiles.

Insider note: The Academy weighs work experience relevance heavier than tenure length. A six-month CAD internship in an automotive Tier-1 supplier often reads stronger than two years in unrelated IT services for the M.Sc. Robotic Systems Engineering track.
